Oh my goodness!!!!! Thank you thank you!!!!! I am learning so much from you!!!!! You made this horror dress and it looks so stunningly beautiful on you!!!!! You should receive many accolades from the sewing world!!!! Wow! Just wow!!!! You know how to salvage what is going wrong which is what would literally send me into frustration and to never want to pick up a pattern again!!!!!! So I am taking all your makes in as I would like to begin sewing soon!!!!
Viv everything looked great, and I appreciate all your creative sewing, yes sometimes things get in the way life for instance, sewing for me is my therapy, you are very gifted and give much creative joy to many. I respect you, and you always make me smile. Blessings stay strong and positive.
@@vivmomsews4962 Thank you! I’m so inspired and have been going through my own “vintage “ patterns, buying new ones and my stash seems to be increasing! 😅
Hi, Viv. This dress may be my favorite on you. I think this fabric has your name on it and the style of the dress with your "adjustments" is really really pretty and I think it's perfect. Thank you for sharing your "victories" and your "failures that turn into winners".
Your “train wreck” of a shirt dress is one my favorite things you have made. It looks amazing on you. I love the length. I would just do a bias binding hem and call it good. Really, it looks fantastic.
I just really like the way you do your videos they are very educational to a new sewist like myself cause if I have the pattern I can see it on you and what to watch out for or to toss it thank you don’t ever give up do you just the way you are I for one appreciate every minute you laugh I laugh lol thanks again
Viv, your “Nightmare “ dress is absolutely beautiful! I like your version better than the pattern and the colors are definitely made for you! Thanks for the great makes!!
I was just about to say the exact same thing. That ! Dress, looks fabulous on you 😍 , how you managed to end up with something so beautiful from such an " ugly" pattern is nothing short of a miracle!! Keep on going, January is over 🤣🤣🤣
I agree! It really turned out to be stunning after all your fit adjustments! The color is gorgeous on you too. I seem to have trouble with McCall’s patterns too, so I feel similar to how you do about them. Nevertheless, your garments for January are all nice!
You always make me laugh out loud when I watch your videos, I don’t think you realise how funny you are. Please keep them coming I love your makes , Viv you are a star x
The dress is perfect on you. The changes you made though frustrating are sheer genius on your part. Eventhough it c was a nightmare to adjust to your figure, it turned out beautifully, purple buttons and all. It looks so amazing on you, I think you should make another with alterations and all.
I liked the purple dress the best! They're all beautiful. Your words of encouragement from me are.....You're done with those. No worries. Next. Look how many viewers think they're nice!
Viv, your January video was the "perfect pick me up" to retrieve me from my sewing doldrums. 😀 With the dreaded you know what 😡 raging here in Australia and no travel planned, I stopped sewing. Your honest approach and hilarious presentation, inspired me, I enjoyed some good laughs. Thank you for restoring my mojo. Best wishes ❤️🇦🇺
I totally agree! She has such a way of venting her frustration with humor, I could feel her frustration 😠 but found myself chuckling throughout the video 😆 and yes, I think in spite of her challenges, her garments turned out and look fabulous on her! Also, good to know about McCall's has taken over kwik-sew 😒
YOU are the inspiration in this video!! Despite the struggle with your projects, your attitude and humor and your "soldiering on" is really motivating. On top of that, all of your makes are beautiful!! 👏👏
Your honesty is so appreciated. When sewing projects go off track I rarely finish them. I've learned to step back, rethink and restart. I love sewing but I hate frustration. Thanks for telling the whole truth. Love all the outfits.
I am in awe of your perseverance! You lift me up! I have a 10 needle embroidery machine that has been the bane of my existence and haven't used it in 3 . You have encountered me to "soldier up" and get on my horse and ride to the winner's circle! I shouldn't let a huge hunk of metal beat me down! Onward and tally ho! Your January makes are amazing! And the best part is you improvised and won! They are beautiful! I especially love the "dress from hell!" Thank you for putting "our challenges" into perspective for me!
I love it when you are so honest with your sewing...and then how you resolve what has happened. I think we all have those things, including the types of patterns that tend to be 'challenging' (I don't mean complicated...I mean pain in the neck issues). All your sewing projects turned out so lovely. I look forward to your February fashions.
Thank you for this funny and fun adventure of sewing. Ya know, we learn so much from our disappointments! Though, I wish we didn’t have any! I totally felt the whole throw the collar out shenanigans! And, I’m glad to know that newer Kwick Sew is really McCalls (ugh). You’re such a gem, and you look fabulous 💜🎉
Vivmom has a sense of humor about the trials and errors of sewing. She always gets a finished project that looks great on her and is so humble about how wonderful they turned out. Wonderful job. You make me feel like I can do it too.
My dear Viv! 😸 You make me smile. You're amazing at what you do. Everything turned out lovely and looks beautiful on you. Thank you for your honesty and as always, I sure do appreciate everything you do. Don't even quit 🙏👍❤️🎉
I think this should be called "triumph over adversity". Despite bad instructions, everything you made looks great, and the dress is STUNNING! The pleats on the front that you added are my favorite part! To make a coat that keep you warm in the snow is incredible. I think sometimes things like this are secret opportunities to realize how creative we can be. You did an incredible job ♥️
I know how it feels when a project is a bear to sew and you just want to throw it in the bin, but that shirt dress is adorable on you! Those little tucks you did to make it fit look fabulous. Thank you for the realistic look at how sewing can be at times. Praying that February is filled with lots of success and joy!
Your a fabulous model. I like the way you view each pattern as easy or a pain in the rear all the while giving your viewers encouragement to face any pattern. You go girl.
I loved everything you sewed, Viv! You are so inspiring! Because of you, I can now surge! And even thread it! Because of you, I have a dream before me to sew again. January was a horrible month. I got covid, then my precious maltese passed away. I will sew. I've crocheted. But it's not the same. I'll sew. Thank you. Oh, I love the flounced sweater knit topper. And, you made me laugh again. THANK YOU!
I love this video, and the fact that you tell us if it’s a nightmare pattern or a great one. I think you made the dress look better than the pattern too.
You make everything look good. I'm sorry some were so rough, but it helps enormously that you note that even experienced sewists are challenged by poor instructors. Good luck in Feb.
Even with all of your frustration it looks like you ended up with some really cute garments. What a good save on the dress. It is adorable, and I love the topper and shell under it. You are an inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing it all, the good and the not so fun ones.
I have to say that Quick Sew/ McCalls dress is gorgeous in spite of everything. I would have been in tears with all that. It is a beautiful make. I also liked how your topper turned out. When I saw your notification I was in the middle of something else and immediately and was happy to see you.
Hello VivMom! It's nice to see you again with your monthly makes! I always look forward to watching your monthly makes; they always inspire me! Thanks 😊

Cannot agree with you more about the sewing experience - have quite a few fails (many unfinished when I realised that no amount of fixing would ever make them wearable). Love, love, love the nightmare-to-sew shirt dress!!! It’s my absolute favorite of all your makes in January 🥰. The fabric is gorgeous on you, and everything about it is so flattering to your enviable figure. I don’t think it needs a ruffle because it looks perfect on you!! Until spring is in full bloom, maybe a waist-length, knit bolero jacket would be cute with that fabulous dress? You’re awesome, Viv!
That sleeveless summer dress is lovely. The fabric really makes it. I love seeing you in bright and happy colours as it hilites your sparkling personality.
Thank you for another great makes video! You are a constant source of sewing encouragement and inspiration. And in the match up between Viv and Kwik Sew 4000, you clearly came out on top!!
Oh I so love your honesty! Still the dress came out beautiful thanks to your alteration of the pattern 😄! Top and jacket great too. Imagine an amateur just completely giving up sewing because of these frustrations! I suggest they look up the easy sews you suggest! There's no crying in.., wait 🤔, that's only baseball! You are so funny, even when January makes are frustrating beyond belief. Have a wonderful February!
Yes, I agree with what $o many others are saying. You turned that horrible pattern into a much better one, and the outcome is a darling dress, with interesting details. Love it!
Viv, you were able to adjust beautifully. That dress with your changes looks much better than the pattern anyway. Don't let the January sewing problems get to you. You do a terrific job and encourage the rest of us to keep sewing, even in the worst of times. Much appreciated!
Viv, You are so real and honest..you start our day of with laughter with your cute remarks. The flowered dress looks great on you, and should be your trophy dress, because you stayed with it and made your special design.. We love your modeling style. and we all need to remember yes purple can mean suffering but we a ROYAL daughters of Jesus
I was so glad to watch a new video from you today! My 7 year old daughter watched with me & said, "Mom, that dress looks really pretty on her." I couldn't agree more! Thanks for sharing with us, despite your frustrations... Even despite your disappointment, you brought joy to our hearts. We love your channel!!
Viv you had me dying of laughter. I have had all of these disasters. One was just this summer and couldnt save the blouse. I had been saving that fabric forever
I give you a lot of credit for 'keeping on'! I didn't have your enthusiasm so I just gave up all together. I love watching your makes but I really love hearing all about your process. ❤
Viv I am so sorry you have had a rough time. All of your makes look great!! I am so glad you overcame the dress. It is adorable. You made me laugh when you said purple represented royalty and "suffering". I just prayed that you would be given wisdom for your February projects.
I absolutely LOVE your honest assessment of your sewing failures. You literally made the most delicious and appetizing "lemonade" from a rotten "lemon Kwik Sew 4000" pattern! Your struggles and persistence to "Make It Work" resulted in a most beautiful dress! Great modifications to make the most of that gorgeous fabric! BRAVA!!! Now YOU have inspired me to make MY fails work! Thank You Viv :)💕
Hi Viv, Debby here from Wisconsin Thank you so much for sharing all that you sewed looks so pretty on you. It's nice to know not everything sews together perfectly. I've had all kinds of dramas in my sewing journey. It makes me feel spot on with the way I feel at times. The worse thing we can do is give up. I just hate shopping in stores. Thanks for sharing you inspire me. Debby
Viv...You did a great salvage on your dress. The fabric is beautiful. I vote no on the ruffle (just my opinion). I think a bias tape hem would finish it off nicely. Good luck on a nicer February sewing month.
Hi Viv really you did great hacks on your troublesome projects! Your dress looks beautiful on you...your version of course and your coat lapel size looks great. All in all you were successful in my eyes. Oh and love the makes that didnt frustrate you😊 Cant wait to see your Feb makes!
All of your makes are Amazing! Whenever I have difficult makes like these, I tell myself that God has a plan for these things -- he's not telling me what the plan is, just what the plan is NOT. And you style them so perfectly! No one will ever guess -- ok, maybe a couple thousand of us - but no one else! Stay well!
Your beautiful nightmare dress reminds me of a black knit dress I made in the ‘80s -‘90s that had a wide inset waist. Everything went wrong, I had to change everything, but the dress ended up looking wonderful. Everyone loved the dress and asked what pattern I used. I told them it didn’t matter because finished with wasn’t what was on the pattern cover.
I loved the dress... I love everything you make. Your so good at matching patterns and fabric that suite you so well. I also love how your so honest with the patterns. I am also not a fan of McCall patterns -- they are one of the reasons why I stopped sewing. I've been tempted several times to start again but I think I suffer from PTSD -- Pattern Traumatic Stress Disorder. :) Maybe I'll get the courage to try again as I have a beautiful sewing machine begging me to take her out of the closet and dust her off.
Hi Viv, I can only agree with all the other comments about THAT dress. It turned out to be a perfectly beautiful fit and your many hacks got you there. Now that’s what I’d call a TRIUMPH!!!!! Best regards from Sydney 😊

Your floral dress is beautiful. It doesn’t need a ruffle on the bottom. It is great just the way it is. Great job.
I agree with everyone else..your “nightmare” shirt dress turned out FABULOUS!!! Looks great on you…and I’m in search of that gorgeous fabric!
Hi, Viv. This dress may be my favorite on you. I think this fabric has your name on it and the style of the dress with your "adjustments" is really really pretty and I think it's perfect. Thank you for sharing your "victories" and your "failures that turn into winners".

Plus the fit is great! She usually hides her more than ample chest but it really shows off the balance in her figure. The pattern is beautiful.

Amen! It is GORGEOUS! And the pleats in the front are so wonderful!
Yes the pleats really emphasize your tiny waist and the fabric is stunning. So glad you were able to save the dress.
But, the Kwik Sew 4000 (shirt dress from hell) looks absolutely awesome on you! I think you drafted your own pattern after all the hacks you did!

For a "dud" of a pattern, you ended up with a "wow" dress! Kudos! I enjoyed all of your makes.
I have to tell you, Viv, the pattern through which you drew an X made a dress for you that flatters you immensely...it is a KNOCK---OUT!!!
Thank you for your honesty...it is refreshing, and at times, hilarious. But the end results are gorgeous.

You are a riot! I can feel your pain. The dress looks great on you. I'm glad you persevered. Blessings on you.
That nightmare dress is absolutely beautiful!! Thanks for sharing your struggles. Makes me feel less stressed about my own.
The deceiver dress with the front tucks is gorgeous. With all the changes you made it is more your creation than a dreaded McCall's pattern.
The good the bad and the mCcalls 🤣😂🤣😂. Always a treat watching you Vivmom!
