Good walk-through of the CBB 22L Backpack. I have the exact same color you got. I've been a supporter of Evergoods since their inception through kickstarter many years ago. A few thoughts: GOOD 1. Evergoods does a great job of building pockets/compartments that match the dimensions of other items they sell, especially their accessories 2. Their special hi-vis orange interior is a special orange they chose themselves, and is different than other brands that use a hi-vis contrast interior 3. Many of their products have internal framesheets (HDPE?), which not only helps with support and rigidity, but keep packs upright 4. Small touches like their counter-zipper pulls are thoughtful NEUTRAL 1. I think their harness needs an update; I've noticed with lighter and medium heavy loads, the shoulder straps are fine, but when heavier, I definitely experience shoulder fatigue. The sternum strap also only partially alleviates this short-term 2. Adding on to their harness, the way it's designed almost like an extension of the pack since it directly continues/connects is visually appealing, but in terms of articulation and thickness, I think it can be improved 3. The back panel air channels could also use an update, instead of a diagonal + horizontal design 4. I think the addition of their quick access pocket that sits right behind the shoulder straps is great and useful (which I feel other brands have copied like Goruck, Bellroy, etc), but I've noticed the stitching gets worn, frayed, or comes loose over time BAD/SEMI-BAD 1. Build quality and R&D are excellent, but these bags are considerably expensive, despite not being made in the USA 2. Evergoods is slow to implement different fabrics and/or vibrant color options outside of their burnt orange, signal blue, or black colorways. It usually takes a release like "Evergoods x Carryology" or "limited release/edition" to see something cool (i.e., olive x-pac with contrasting hi-vis orange interior CPL 24) Overall: I continue to support and purchase Evergoods items almost annually. However, I think although their updates to most if not all of their items (i.e., CPL series v1 vs v2 vs v3)are great additions, the incremental changes I sometimes question if it warrants the prices. I really hope Evergoods considers updating/beefing up their harness, changing the way the shoulder straps articulate, and perhaps even offer an alternative horizontal external zippered dump/admin pocket compared to the current vertical zipper admin pocket found on the CTB and CPL series.
I wonder if they would have sold any of the blood orange bags if that colourway wasn't the super limited one lol, the red on brown on orange is just... something else
I wasn’t sure if I’d like it, in large part because no external laptop access. That’s why I sold my CHZ22. What I have come to realize is that what I didn’t like was the half zip in a single cavity bag. I am in love with the CBB because I have wide open access to the entire bag.
I bought both the CTB26 Griffin 2 and the CBB22. I liked the material so much on the CTB26 that I had to have a simpler, smaller and more practical bag for my easy grab and go needs.
16:17 I got the same model and color. It fits me very well. I only have the CPL 16 before acquiring the Griffin CBB22. And totally agree with you. What sets Evergoods from the rest of the backpack world is their ability to seamlessly incorporate organization without compromising capacity. This is seen in all their models, specifically the CPL & CTB lines having: 1) The lower mesh pocket below top non see through one on the flap; 2) Deep QAP, at least as deep as the one on the CPL 16 or CTB 20; 3) Side laptop access panel; and, 4) Long side handle. If the above-mentioned features were added, this would've been a version of the book bag that's distinctly Evergoods. Other than that, it's not a deal breaker, love the 🎒 and will be keeping it 🥰. I'm hopeful that they'll add those features on future iterations 😊🍀🫶🏼
I've been using mine for a couple of weeks now. It does NOT stand on its own reliably. It can, in some situations, especially if the front pocket is kept very lightly-loaded or empty. Any kind of weight in the front pocket will cause the bag to tip over; I find that to be true regardless of what I had in the main compartment. I've also had the exact same load-out sometimes stand, sometimes not. It just does not stand reliably. It's a gorgeous bag and I LOVE the front pocket, though. There's only 2 outside pockets and yet I found it very intuitive to pack. I really love the overall format of the CB22. The yoke pocket definitely pokes at my neck and upper back, which badly affects comfort. I'm about 5"9, so average height, so I don't quite know who/what heights tested this, but it's an extremely obvious miscomfort for me.
For me, I would have love to have external water bottle pocket. Deal breaker for me but a great bag nonetheless. Agree with you "2 things that can be better"
I believe the extra inner bottom pocket isn't there as the front pocket takes up that space. That's why it doesn't take up space from the inside when stuffed.
I love mine and I prefer the tan over any of the other CW…I usually prefer multicam black but I am just not feeling this type of multicam versus the heritage tan
Carryology aren’t selling out anymore tbh because of the cost….the Trakke sample of the Muir 2 sitting and the latest release of Mystery Ranch collab is sitting too….i am also into Jordan’s and it’s the same deal thankfully.
Inflation too. People have less spare money money than 4 years back. The price for collabs bags doubled. And they are doing more frequently. Also there are a lot of new brands on IG that are doing amazing bags for lesser price.
For the price they should have added the same water bottle pockets as the civic half zip Would fit the classic book bag aesthetic while still having evergoods feature set
I like it without the exterior water bottle pockets, but I think they definitely could have easily added stretchy interior water bottle pockets on this bag
The laptop pocket could have been like, I believe the chz, for me. This type or bag can have an internal sleeve. But this is just a mesh sleeve. Not really a laptop sleeve. For the rest I like the design.
I personally like the bag, got one on the way in tan, but I definitely think people are getting tired of the Carryology hype train and crazy pricing. The Trakke Muir III is a prime example, nice pack but way overpriced (still available several months on at a significantly reduced price), Trakkes’ regular offering are much nicer than the collab versions. I’m surprised how quickly this came around after the last Griffin release and I also agree that the vivid orange interior on all these collabs needs to stop, there are many more suitable color options available.
I should add, I’m a fully fledged, self confessed bag nerd and love the variety of bags and packs available to us all now but I can’t help but feel that these collabs are sucking the joy out of our hobby. I can’t help but feel that sometimes we’re being taken for a ride with the built-in FOMO. Don’t get me wrong, I love to see innovation and something different but a lot of these things leave me cold, ymmv obviously and that’s fine but I think I’m definitely over the constant marketing speak and ‘design articles’ 🙄 It’s a bag, we throw stuff in there and carry it around some, some do it better than others and some look better than others (it’s all subjective of course) but let’s not lose sight of the fact that’s ultimately it’s just a bag/pack. Enjoyed the honest review, as always, and always good to see someone so passionate about what they do. Apologies for the long-winded diatribe…
I didn't get it. For me, i would have loved it if it had water bottle pockets and a dedicated laptop area with side access. As well as being a little bit bigger.
This pack is not worth the money. The back panel feels like a cop out. They could have done their breathable mesh panel if they wanted. The orange interior clashes horribly with the heritage quality of the waxed canvas. We got brown, (cool) and a random Brit camo (wtf?) instead of better colors like olive, tan, black, etc. EG gets a lot of praise, but I don't actually think they listen to their customers all that much. They're overrated.
I think you're barking up the wrong tree; these things sound more like Carryology decisions to me. When (if?) the normal version of this bag comes out, it: 1. will be cheaper, 2. will be black with standard grey interior, and 3. will use Evergoods' standard breathable back panel. Further, when Evergoods chooses to do special editions without Carryology, IMO they've been pretty tasteful (olive and coyote X-Pac for example). Anyway I do agree with some of your points but maybe wait and see what they do with the regular model before making your final judgement.

I've noticed after they had to put the burnt orange on sale they stopped with any of the more colorful options :(

Have the tan and love the bag, do like the simplicity

Amazing review! Love the close up camera angle. Very useful to get a good idea about the product.

Great video as usual!
I purchased this bag and did not intend to keep it, but it looks just so darn good that it has now become my daily driver
Love to hear that. It's undoubtedly a gorgeous bag. Could not agree with you more on that.
I love mine, its a great bag, a redesign of a classic with an Evergoods quality design/material/
I believe the extra inner bottom pocket isn't there as the front pocket takes up that space. That's why it doesn't take up space from the inside when stuffed.
The CBB is strikingly similar to the updated DSPCH Ridgepack. Very similar lines. I’m more interested in the Ridgepack.
I love mine and I prefer the tan over any of the other CW…I usually prefer multicam black but I am just not feeling this type of multicam versus the heritage tan

they call certain bags civic-whatever because its designed for city use as opposed to outdoor bags in their mountain line.

Pretty sure this variation was $350 btw :)
10:00 can it fit a pro/ultra sized phone?
not comfortably, it's a little tight. Not sure why they made this pocket smaller. It would work, but just not really well.
I didn't get it. For me, i would have loved it if it had water bottle pockets and a dedicated laptop area with side access. As well as being a little bit bigger.
I really like that they *didn’t* do the same thing yet again, with the dedicated laptop pocket.

@@patrick_gingras yeah, that's fair.
