Imagine if Jesus had had the sense to WRITE HIS OWN MESSAGE DOWN!? What a thought, huh? Second hand stories don’t carry the perfect divine message perfectly. If Jesus could walk on water. If Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead. Then surely Jesus wanted his message, his perfect message, to endure purely and without confusion. Why didn’t Jesus lay it all out himself? Why rely on random Galilee bystanders to keep track of this story and all the details? It isn’t that Jesus couldn’t write it down for us…but the truth is he could have and didn’t write it down. I can’t make sense of that perfect message strategy, the one Jesus gambled on. If our eternal salvation relies on Jesus, where is his direct testimony? Isn’t mankind deserving of FIRST HAND TRUTH? God sent his only begotten son to earth and the son walked around a tiny bit of desert, talking to random people. Jesus believed THIS was the best way to get his loving message across to all mankind forever? It’s a half assed way to go about it, if the story is even partially accurate.
Jesus is purposely introducing a perfect and impossible standard (the true spirit of the Law) in order to expose the spiritual slavery and hypocrisy of His Jewish audience. It isn’t that Jesus couldn’t write it down for us…but the truth is he could have and didn’t write it down.
I can’t make sense of that perfect message strategy, the one Jesus gambled on. If our eternal salvation relies on Jesus, where is his direct testimony? Isn’t mankind deserving of FIRST HAND TRUTH?
God sent his only begotten son to earth and the son walked around a tiny bit of desert, talking to random people. Jesus believed THIS was the best way to get his loving message across to all mankind forever?
It’s a half assed way to go about it, if the story is even partially accurate.
Jesus is purposely introducing a perfect and impossible standard (the true spirit of the Law) in order to expose the spiritual slavery and hypocrisy of His Jewish audience. With this in mind, the Sermon on the Mount is not a sweet passage for Christian growth, but instead it serves as “nails in the coffin” of anyone who thinks they can keep the true standard of the Jewish law.

Superior moral attitude, a.k.a. pride
The emphasis on not judging others really hits home. However, in a world where moral boundaries seem increasingly blurred, is it really practical to avoid judging others' actions? Shouldn't we stand up for what's right?
