I have the marker for table 34, several of the Jean Luce ashtrays marked as "S.S. Normandie", the bronze Maiden Voyage Medal and a bronze maquette of the bas relief mural of the Provinces of France by Raymond Delamarre.
    Thanks for this!

Oddly enough it is a monument at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. The nearly 20 foot doors to the dining room with the medallions of the different cities in Normandy are installed at Our Lady of Lebanon Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn.

My Aunt Helen sailed the SS Normandie from NY to England in August of 1938. You can read of her adventures: search: Touring 1938 Europe Unawares

Yep, that’s enough wood for a small fire to get out of control.

The only current ship that comes close to the penultimate Normandie is the Queen Mary 2. So far, no ship has come close to imitating, let alone surpassing the Normandie. I'm fortunate in owning an ink-well set from the First Class Reading and Writing Room that I purchased at a Paris flee market for $25. I had it evaluated at $5,000. A friend of mine own a demitasse cup and saucer from the First Class Grill Room.

Charming, wistful, and rather bittersweet. Could such wonders really ever have existed? I have a pair of soup bowls like the ones pictured that must have been filched by my partner's mother when they sailed the Ile de France. Was this a standard French Line dinner service, or is it possible they were from the Normandie? I've read the French Line reused a lot of items from ship to ship. I'd love to think they were from this grand liner.

Could you tell me where was shot the the picture at 7:02 ? Those are glass pannels from the walls of 1st class dining room right ? I have hard time to figure out their rendition in the ship. On some pictures/illustrations they look pink (because of the red marble wall behind i guess), sometimes grey , sometimes lit, sometimes dark (from the famous color video footage)...I guess the different glass treatments could also cause plenty of renditions.

They commemorated many of the battles of the allied invasion with the medallions on the door. It must have been sobering for the psychic at dinner.

I have a dilemma . I recently bought a degue lamp. He was a french artist commissioned to work on the normandies interior. However I am having trouble identifying whether the lamp was on the normandie. It has 3 screws in the base of the lamp presumably to hold it to the table in a vessel. The lamp is too big for a train lamp. I’ve done a bit of research and degue helped design two liners the same France and the Normandie. However it could not be a lamp from SS France as the lamp is designed with clear frosted glass: degue used that in the 30s to reflect the sombre depression. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know that much of the interior was sold off cheaply in the 40s to help convert it into a war vessel.
