  • Vinyl LP (Sony PS-X75 Biotracer) - Miles Davis - Right Off, Pt II
Turntable: Sony PS-X75 Biotracer Direct Drive
    Phono Cart: Dynavector 10x5
Preamp: Pro-Ject Tube Box II with Mullard vacuum tubes
    Stereo: Marantz 2235b
Recorded at 16/88 (24-bit, 96kHz) on Audacity, saved as WAV.
Notes #1 (UPDATE) - Upon further examination on Audacity, I have determined that this recording of this album was on the Sony PS-X75 Biotracer, and not the Pro-Ject Debut III. The cleaner sound and slightly leaner sound of the bass is evidence of the Dynavector 10x5 cartridge, which was used on the 47k Ohm, "MM"" setting. The Denon DL-160 on my Pro-Ject Debut, however, was used on the 100 Ohm, "MC" setting, which results in a thicker, bass-heavy sound. Add in distortion from the Pro-Ject's notoriously buzzy motor, and the result is a low end that just glows.
In any case, this recording comes from Sony's legendary PS-X75, featuring the Biotracer tonearm which was the apex of Sony's engineering genius. The Dynavector 10x5 just growls with guitars, while keeping Miles Davis' horn smooth and clear.

Notes #2 - This episode of Vinyl LP is Part 2 of "Right Off," from Miles Davis' 1971 "A Tribute to Jack Johnson." This jazz-rock fusion masterpiece continues with a series of scorching solos, including a surprise appearance by Herbie Hancock (who, according to legend, just happened to be walking by the recording studio that day).
