If that set was anymore, "60s", it would give you a contact high!
I think one could make a serious case for this version of TTTT as being the best game show ever. The panel was perfect, Garry Moore was still at the top of his game and the 70s-era was truly the golden age of game shows. And how could you not love the psychedelic set?
RIP, dear Stan Lee.
We love you.
I used to collect tickets for all the game shows and have about 50 tickets for To Tell The Truth.
It's a good thing I recognized Stan Lee's voice.
The golden age of game shows. Garry Moore was probobly the best game show host in my opinion. Garry Moore was polite, humorous and very personable with his panel and guests. This is an era unfortunately that will never be duplicated again. The panel on this "To Tell the Truth" episode including the host Garry Moore, are all deceased. It's great to have these vintage videos to reminiscence about this golden era.
Couldn't agree more, friend. I love watching these, but it is bittersweet at times.
To only upside of being alive now is that I can watch these whenever I want. I was born in 1990 and am stuck in an area I never got to experience most days. Modern game shows are junk for sure.
+John Last Of all of his shows, To Tell the Truth was Mark Goodson's favorite.
Garry Moore will be missed.
I recently watched Peggy on a few episodes of Super Password from the early '80's (with Tom Poston, i think) and she was horrible at the end game, but she was so good-natured and had such a great sense of humor that i could not help but fall in love with her.
It was great to see Tom Poston on the panel of the Gary Moore - hosted TTTT. It was also great to see Stan Lee. I recognized him immediately. As I'm writing this, he will be 95 this year (2016) and, like Betty White, still going strong.
+Libertu Bey Yes, I recognized Stan immediately too and have read articles about him in various magazines.
Gravydog316 Haha, I had kind of an unfair advantage because I just read an article about him and his appearance hasn't changed a lot either over the years.
Stan Lee is about to turn 90. He looks absolutely great and still has the same great voice. He had been writing comic books for 30 years in 1971. What amazing longevity.
The most telling thing about this episode, is that Stan calls himself a “writer and editor”. He isn’t trying to steal creator credits he doesn’t have, in 1970. Something to think about...RIP Stan Lee
Anyone notice him talkin to the lady that said he was cute? Lol. Get it Stan! It was so weird seeing other people trying to pass off as him since hes so easily recognizable now.
Stan Lee looked nothing like he does today in 1971. A very handsome man.
I’m glad I like Marvel. I knew who he was by his voice.
I loved this show! Thank you once again. Peggy Cass seemed like such a hippie, that's why I liked her so much. I wish the palm reading was done without knowing who was who but....
I wonder if that game (funny it's called that) is on eBay?
Same here, I didn't see the physical resemblance until he smiled
He was on again in 2001; I'm kind of surprised they got away with it then. They certainly couldn't have done it the year he died.
I remember this episode, I saw this rerun, I mostly remember Stan Lee on this episode.
There questions an answer were so shallow "he looks like a Stan Lee" "well he's the most handsome" "this one knew the names of the Peanuts artist, even though he's also the only one I asked about comic strip artist"
The one thing that was the same with Stan Lee was his distinctive voice.
you'd never be able to do this show now, the internet would make it impossible lol.
"Captain America" was the nickname of Peter Fonda's character in Easy Rider.
The Stan Lee episode was too easy as No. 2 was the only one who kept his arms folded: 20:43
No mistaking that voice.
I completely wrote off the hand thing as b.s. ... then she mentioned childhood illness while looking at Bill Cullen's palm print. Now I'm creeped out.
Jupiter and Neptune LOL
Anyone remember an earlier appearance on TTTT by Stan Lee? Back in the Bud Collyer days, maybe? Someone on the panel knew him and asked questions but disqualified himself from voting. I think Lee admits his name was Leiber but maybe not. Also, the IMDB lists a Lee appearance on TTTT but from 2001 and not this one, so that's no help.
This episode apparently transitioned guest introduction music cues.
16:12 Artists wrote and drew at the same time, then they got to busy to do their own stories, so they had writers do them.
He is number 2.
Does anyone have the segment where the cast of The Garry Moore Show reunites?
Hmmm, one of the, "Usual Gang of Idiots" appears to appear in the credits.
Indeed the great Dick DeBartolo still writes for Mad and also wrote for the original Match Game.
Stan Lee appears on this version true believers.
I was hoping Peggy didn't choose #2 because Stan was so cute. I don't know. Calling Charles Schulz "Charlie" would set me off in a formal way.
Garry and I share a birthday!
Only One of these People is the Real Stan Lee, and is the Only One Sworn... TO TELL THE TRUTH!
thats crazeeee!! his voice is the same still, but i didn't recognize him at all!!
Wow, 'Comics aren't as much fun as they used to be'. Did they not think that comic books were more than Mickey Mouse or Peanuts? Could they not make the distinction between comic strips and comic books? Was Gary Moore and the panel that stupid or naive? God Bless Stan Lee! He was always the smiling congenial ambassador for comics and presented himself with class.
I thought that was on I've Got A Secret
At 14:06!
Stan Lee was a total fox!
The Wakanda creator.
Johnny Olson :D
Drew Carey never looked that good!
These colorized shows were awful!! I did'nt understand the money for wrong or right answers!!
I think number 2 is the real Stan Lee. Just sayin.
Was part of the studio audience in 1977. Something happened with one of the cameras. And Gary Moore came up into the audience. And answered questions from the audience. What a great man. Bill Cullen, Kitty Carlisle, Peggy Cass, and Tom Sever, were the judges the day of filming. Very cool experience. Nice to see these shows again. Thank you for posting.
