- Politicians claim they protect us from big business by passing regulations. In reality, those regulations are often written by big business lobbyists, and they hurt small competitors most!

"When government gets bigger, whether it's through spending or taxes or regulation ... big business benefits," Tim Carney of the Washington Examiner explains.
Amazon’s Jeff Bezos wants government to impose a $15 minimum wage.
"The problem is [Bezos] doesn't want to just pay his own workers $15 [but] to outlaw other business models ... smaller businesses that might not be as efficient," Carney says.
Amazon can afford an army of warehouse robots, but mom and pop shops must pay actual people. If they can't afford $15, they go out of business.
Carney adds: "Capitalism is a cutthroat thing, but this isn't capitalism. When you turn to government to regulate your competitors out of business, we need to say, 'No, this is wrong!'"
The video above includes more examples of how big business partners with big goverersnment to defeat smaller compeititors.

“Beware the greedy hand of government thrusting itself into every corner and crevice of industry.”

All these quotes are a nice read and only that if all you do is read them
I wish they limited their thrusts to industrial crevices but sadly they have more personal targets as well.
Government, from time immemorial, was built up around the wealthy aristocrats, trade, economy, and money. Those that think that it has to do with human rights are mistaken.
If Jefferson and Madison hadn't stepped in, there would be no legal human or natural rights within the US, as the new government, under the Federalists, was to be the "New Rome," and it was all about trade and protecting the economy.
I'll give WJC credit, when he stated one fact: "It's about the economy, stupid!"
Not only thrusting itself but now being openly invited in by former bureaucrats who went to the private sector.

Watching this, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” comes to mind and is almost always applicable to government regulations.

If you make the minimum wage $15 an hr. EVERYTHING and EVERYONE will be paying more.
And those making $18 an hour now will suffer.
Except that wages is only part of what goes into your product. America is in a race to the bottom where low income workers have no rights at all. Modern day slavery in all its glory. A society is only as good as its weakest and poorest people. In the US, that is making it look like a developing country.
It takes time for the economy to catch up but you kill businesses in areas where living standards are lower. I believe they would tend to be poorer and more rural.
Yes it has already happened here in Canada....
In 2008 they started the push for $15/hr minimum wage, going up $1 every year or two, the inflation rate has gone from a steady 1% for the last 20 years prior to 2008, now we're hovering around 3.5% inflation year after year, and it's steadily rising year after year
And you’ll only be able to shop at massive corporations which will only get bigger, monopolize and hence dictate prices rather than the market. Great, you’ve been voted in your own corporate enslavement 👏

Big Business helps write a lot of the business regulations so that small businesses/potential competition are unable to function because the burdens of those regulations (time and money) are too heavy.
you think that is all? just think of all the ways competitors can fuck you on, city, county, state board approvals, lol
If a big business says, "We need to be regulated," you should ask: "Why can't you just uphold those standards on yourself?"
Fascism, that beloved world, is about merging government and corporations.
Exactly
Explain the word Fascism
You realize every time a tyrannical government takes over it is the government taking over the economy right?
You're too focused on socialism (fascism).... communism has the same problem. They both are sold as the government (or group of people) "fairly distributing goods".... but when they are not getting any capital in return for those expected goods they are NOT going to distribute them "fairly".
Right now our biggest economic problem is trading capital for debt... corporations/wall street (stocks) NEED to be gotten rid of 100%

Besides the reasons given in the video, there's this:
Big Business loves having an extremely complicated tax code. They can afford having teams of lawyers who not only keep them legal, they also find and exploit loopholes. (And they lobby Congress to get loopholes they want.) Small businesses struggle to even stay legal.
Big business loves those fantastic moats of litigation barriers to entry that government helps dig, fill, and guard.

@@asterixgallier8102 communism doesn't work or haven't you been paying attention?
More regulation equates to regime building. It means they open new departments and or offices to "enact and oversee" the new regulation. At a minimum, it means increasing the personnel rolls. It's how the "Deep State" is formed and or increased.
What's funny, Congress is to operate "oversight" over all of the agencies and departments they fund. How much "oversight" does Congress truly employ? lol Their oversight is a joke.

Competition keeps big business grounded. Makes them realize they have to rely on their product and methods to keep the consumer happy instead of destroying their rivals

The funny thing about Anti-Monopoly Laws is that it doesn't force businesses to have competition.
The war on small business is real. Having only a few mega corporations that you can buy from allows the government to say what you can buy and for how much. Look at books on Amazon.
People complain about capitalism, without realizing that America has not been a free market economy since before the turn of the century.

In this case he is saying they are the bad guy that uses the government against their competition. The flaw in his argument is that people stopped Corporate attempts to exploit government some of the time. For Libertarian to work they would have to stop. Min wage doesn't help anybody, it only raises the cost of everything else.
Exactly - and it significantly increases labor costs which means businesses will only want to hire a select few highly skilled people. In other words, with such a high minimum wage it instantly excludes low skilled prospects from being hired. And, ironically, who does that affect the most?
