YES YES YES. This is exactly why ive been wearing crocs for years now. I wore sandals for many years before that because shoe designers with their "arch support" soles ended up fuckign up my ankles too. Once I started walking on flat sole sandals every day, all my ankle problems went away, but i also noticed my toes were spread out properly and all my weird toe problems went away as well, from ingrown nails to painfully squished toes. But i would stub my toes sometimes in sandals and it would really suck. So i started wearing crocs when i noticed they had this actually intelligent Toe shape. and the best added bonus is that crocs just like rubber sandals can be washed constantly, you can just take them in the shower. and that has resulted in a massive reduction of bacteria in my shoes which completely ended a chronic athletes foot problem i had ever since i was a child. I havent had athletes foot is many many years now all because I can simply wash out my shoes whenever i want. Crocs are hands down the best shoes on this planet from an objectively intelligent perspective. the only real problem fashion wise is the conspicuous holes on the top of the crocs. If the company just put a thing mesh over the top of the shoe to hide the holes in the rubber, these shoes would be perfectly acceptable to basic modern fashion. Especially if you buy the style crocs ive been buying called: Off-Court style. take a look at them they look more like normal classic shoes. I absolutely love love love them. Gimme a thin mesh on the top to hide those unsightly croc holes, and i am a customer for LIFE

My son had to wear his crocs for an entire 41 mile backpacking trip. He brought them as camp shoes and only realized he forgot his hiking boots after we drove 2 hours to the trailhead. We weren’t sure the crocs (or his feet) would make it, but after a 5 day hike with lots of rain, water crossings, and a snowfield, he and the crocs were just fine. You can still call crocs idiot shoes though, since he was an idiot for forgetting his boots.
As a guy who cleans pools for a living, and thus spends large portions of his day standing ankle deep in water, crocs are basically my equivalent to a work boot.

Came here knowing someone would post this. I don't wear them, I'm sure they probably are comfortable, but I just can't see myself ever wearing them. That said, your statement is 100% true.
When the film Idiocracy was made, the director wanted to find a shoe for everyone to wear that looked both futuristic and completely ridiculous for anyone to choose to wear. They approached a small startup at the time called Crocs. The rest is history.
crocs are so comfortable and so versatile. it doesn’t matter if they get wet or dirty or if you’re on your monthly hike through the local swamp to get the herbs to cure your evil step sibling from the plague from your friendly swamp witch- crocs will be there for you every time.
Crocs are the ugliest shoes but have some big positives at least wearing around the home: 1) They are comfortable to wear. 2) They're easy to put on and take off but they don't slip off. 3) They're cool in the summer but also surprisingly warm in the winter. The feet stay perfectly cool and fresh. 4) You can wash them and wipe them dry immediately so they're always clean. 5) They are silent when walking around if you need to be. 6) They last for years.

You should thank the movie Idiocracy because the film directors told them selves we need a shoe that’s so stupid no person would actually wear these and I found this little company making crocs so then everybody in the movie would wear crocs, making them very popular
Crocs are comfortable if you don't have special foot needs, but my feet are too flexible in a bad way and wearing crocks makes my feet hurt because I don't get support where I need it. Unfortunately the shoes that make my feet feel best is an uglier looking shoe with an infinitely shittier name. The name Crocs at least sounds really cool and they have a fun aesthetic.
As a kid I was like “what are those” but now “damn I can’t go out without this bad bois” I have chronic joint pain/swelling so walking with crocs is comfy

crocs really helped me going around when I injured my feet! it’s easy to wear and to take it off, it’s easy to clean, and ok it’s ugly but not everything has to be pretty, sometimes you only need something that is functional
Crocs are a hikers best friend. They weigh nothing and you can clip them to your pack so when you're in camp at the end of the day you have something comfy to put on.
Crocs are a hiker's best friend until something heavy falls on his foot, then he gets regular hiking shoes like a normal person and leaves his crocs for normal days.
@@saysikerightnow3914You must've missed the bit about wearing them at the end of the day in camp. Although crocs are a bit on the heavy side to be carrying around at about 16oz. Most minimalist footwear is lighter than that. Even Xero's boot options are all under 14oz, for comparison. My huarache sandals are only 6oz, and I would hike in them over anything else (my feet prefer freedom over safety 😂). No socks to get wet or sweaty, I can walk through water and they just dry out as I wear them, no smelly feet at the end of the day, and no tan lines 😂.
Reminds me of my psychology professor in college. She always had Vibram 5 finger shoes and I asked her about it one day. She said she used to have back pain but not since she wore the shoes. Point is, shoes are supposed to be made for feet, not eyes.
Barefoot shoes helped me with back pain and knee discomfort I’d had since middle school. Now I forget that I used to even have back pain. All the while my feet, back and hips feel better than ever, my calves are stronger, and I’m waaaay less likely to get shin splints. I got barefoot shoes when I was 18, 3 years later I can’t go back lol. “Normal” shoes cause me physical discomfort and sometimes pain in less than an hour.
But they can be stylish and functional. Shoemakers need to catch up. I've heard Crocs aren't supportive and shouldn't be worn for long periods of time. So he misses that in his video. But the part about the toe bed is correct.
Still get yourself some good barefoot shoes. Your shoes will return to their natural position in time, that's the position they want to be in, and it will cure a lot of pain.

The first day I put them on, I was significantly better. Now I alternate with my Crocs and my Brooks.
Ugh, same. I hardly ever wear shoes because it just feels like cramming my feet. Doesn't help that I have rather big feet (it's a size 36-38 in Brazilian sizes. I think that's 38-40 is European size and 7-8 in USA??? At least if the guide on the bottom of my shoes is to be believed) and they are not only naturally wide (thanks grandma's genes) but since I don't wear closed shoes often, they're not crammed in that odd shape people get from wearing shoes too often. What do you think about thesis that bunions can be linked to footwear. Lots of medical professionals disagree, say that bunions are caused by flat feet, but what causes flat feet?
@@afiiik1 Pes planus, also known as flat feet, are caused when the ligaments in your foot become loose and inadequate, and these ligaments essentially make the arches of your foot (and also makes your foot not flat). It can also be caused by bone deformities or dysfunction of one of the leg muscles (could be due to trauma or degeneration due to age, etc), which as a result, causes failure of one of the ligaments in your foot to support the arches, and hence, you get flat feet. I don’t think these can result from shoes but rather inadequate weight distribution by your feet due to increased stress on them (ie sudden weight gain and prolonged periods of standing).
My podiatrist recommended crocs for recovery after surgery. They have arch support and lots of room for swelling. I still had to wear two sizes but I saved the larger ones for when the other foot gets done.
Arch support is like wearing a corset to keep your back upright. Sure, your back is technically straight, but you’re not exercising your natural ability to keep it straight. The arch in your foot is the result of a collection of muscles in your foot giving you suspension; by putting a bump under it, you’re preventing it from moving as it should, and preventing your muscles from working as they should. Like a corset, it might be necessary after a surgery, though.
@whengrapespop5728 that's great for you since you have no feet problems. You have made a lot of assuptions. I tried barefoot shoes and I still wear them in my yard abd a few other situations. If I wear them to do yard work I get foot cramps, neuroma pain, and charlie horses. Mowing is too much pushing on the ball of my foot. No amount of training my feet (decades of yoga, indoor climbing, barefoot hiking in maritime forrest, SUP, barefoot for weight training when at the climbing gym wgere uts ok other gyms prefer people wear shoes for safety) has changed that. I only wear traditional shoes for work in kitchens or concrete floors and mountous hiking since I don't have enough calouses to barefoot hike on rocky mountain trails. I wear minimal shoes on office days. The arch supports are nessisary when I get foit cramps or charlie horse. It means the muscles need a break. Even my garmin can tell by my hrv. It always says I'm poorly ready for training (which I ignore or there will never be training). My feet are training all the time.
@whengrapespop5728 I seriously hate Crocs, but they have purpose post surgery. The other foot will need to be done at some point, and Im hoping to tine it before I get neuroma in that foot. Right now, it its midfoot instability and bunion.
Foot shapes are different. Some people have their SECOND toe longer than the "big" toe. For those of us with short big toes, "standard" shoes with rounded, elongated or pointy toe box are actually comfier and easier to size, whereas the "anatomical" shoes with a toe box shaped for a longer big toe (asymmetric) - either make our longest second toe curl under, or feel stupidly oversized even 0.5 size up. So... it isn't about the "design flaws" - it is about finding the toe box SHAPE that is fits YOUR foot shape best :)
💯 My big toe and the next 3 toes are all the same height, then my pinky toes suddenly drop off about a full inch shorter. They don’t progressively get shorter like normal 😂
Conventional shoes are still way too narrow for your toes. And by the way, minimalist shoes come in different shapes as well, you can very much get foot shaped shoes that are right for you, even if you don't have dominant big toes. On top of that, they have many other advantages.
Genetic factors can contribute to the onset of "bunions." However, the vast majority of bunions are caused by several factors including the mechanics of the foot moving. Environmental factors can not be overstated when looking at the formation of bunions. Its one of the most common foot disorders, but research does not really support the idea of your shoes directly and solely causing "bunions." sooooooo yea don't listen to everything you see on the internet.
Even a decade ago, I have known people who say things like "you look stupid if you wear Crocs", and to this day some people hate on Crocs to the point where they won't be friends with people who wear them. People are a LOT more accepting of them today, but there are still a lot of Croc haters.
I totally Agree people tell me that i'm so weird for wearing crocs and that they're gonna ruin my feet but you are a hundred percent correct and people need to shut their mouths
stretching is seriously under-rated Everyone should try a foam roller under their back. Being able to crack my own back like a chiropractor feels amazing and relieves so much stress and pain. (Chiros will tell you to NEVER use these.. because they want to make money, lol) most of them can't even crack a back.
@@body46Literally, but I feel that. I was super good about stretching and doing working stretches in my workouts, and then for some reason I just fell out of it and finding the motivation to stretch just disappeared. You can literally do functional stretches without even getting up from your position in bed and I still had no willpower to just do it. But once I finally started again, and just kicked myself into it, I fell back into the habit with minimal effort. It really is just the getting started.

Some people do actually just naturally develop bunions. The main cause is not the way your foot is crammed in there but how you’re missing the arch in your foot. Shoe design is one of the main reasons however and can also tremendously speed up the process
I work in a podiatrist office. A lot of bunions are hereditary, or caused by some trauma to the base of the metatarsals. That trauma can be having a low arch, having a high arch, or having other surgeries to the feet.
Flat feet can be fixed with foot and ankle exercises. Flat feet are not the main cause of bunions. There’s nothing “natural” about having weak feet. Humans are the best long distance runners on the planet.
@@epic7224 thanks doctor, I’ll keep that in mind next time I’m talking to one of the thousands of people who have strengthened their arches with foot and ankle exercises

You have really good looking feet! I wish I could smell them
YES YES YES.
Gimme a thin mesh on the top to hide those unsightly croc holes, and i am a customer for LIFE
I advise you to search the Internet for types of feet
@@abdulaz1z899
"The Egyptian foot is characterized by a first toe that is larger than the others. It is the most common foot type, occurring in 50.8% of the population
The Greek foot, which is characterized by a 2ᵉ toe that is larger than the others. It is found in 40.2% of the population
The square foot or Roman foot where the first 4 toes are aligned. It is present in 9% of the population"
in all cases the croc design makes more sense because while a greek foot can fit reasonably well int eh croc design, the egyptian foot (50% of feet) dont fit as easily in to the standard shoe because the standard shoe is still pointed toward the outer edge of the foot even compared to the Greek foot. and the roman foot it makes basically no difference at all.
Therefore the croc design makes the most sense.

My surgeon recommended oofos BUT crocs were cuter and cheaper. Now I wear them all the time and my foot surgery was 2 years ago

Yup, Greek-foot-person here as well: Nobody makes shoes for our foottype.
@@courtneyr6645 You must be a great ballet-dancer!
Conventional shoes are still way too narrow for your toes. And by the way, minimalist shoes come in different shapes as well, you can very much get foot shaped shoes that are right for you, even if you don't have dominant big toes. On top of that, they have many other advantages.
TIL feet are different shapes, I have the first three toes the same size, and then they slide back.
And that is exactly why I absolutely love Crocs.
I have never, ever in my life heard someone call Crocs "idiot shoes".
Ugly AF though
Even a decade ago, I have known people who say things like "you look stupid if you wear Crocs", and to this day some people hate on Crocs to the point where they won't be friends with people who wear them. People are a LOT more accepting of them today, but there are still a lot of Croc haters.

I wear non-slip crocs at work and I love them. I used to have considerable lower back pain, and now it is minimal and cured by normal stretching
stretching is seriously under-rated
Everyone should try a foam roller under their back. Being able to crack my own back like a chiropractor feels amazing and relieves so much stress and pain. (Chiros will tell you to NEVER use these.. because they want to make money, lol) most of them can't even crack a back.
People refuse to listen to me about stretching. But will proceed to tall me how their back hurts
Yes, some people do just "get bunions." I was born with a hereditary disposition and had my first bunion surgery at 11-years-old. Thanks mom!

@@Piinkypanter I have almost the opposite problem, lol. I have gone through a few pairs of Xero sandals, and they usually have a bit too much toe box and are slightly too wide in the side connection points. The thong hole is also just slightly not right on the non-DIY models.
This year I finally decided to try out their original DIY kit where you cut out your own custom shape from Vibram boot sole material and they are the best sandals I've ever worn. I slowly trimmed them down to be just the right size, and they only weigh about 88g each.
I must have been their last customer for those kits, though. I was browsing their site yesterday and noticed that the only DIY option is their partially-done "feel-true" soles where you only have to trim the front down and punch the thong hole.
I folded and bought Crocs and I LOVE them. They're also in excellent condition for being over 6 years old.
