I just came across Tanya Darby this week even though she has been playing for years and is over 50 y/o. She also performed with my trumpet instructor Rex Richardson (and I am just now finding her). A few times I have gone down the rabbit hole to see if there were any women trumpet players that could scream on the horn (Jon Faddis mentored her). She is the first woman trumpet player I have found with such power, an awesome musician and music educator.
Extremely happy to see my friend Barbara Butler on this list! I've known her for 50 years and have enjoyed performing with her and her partner, Charles Geyer with Music of the Baroque. Two of the finest musicians in the world!
So glad you included my two favourites, Bria Skonberg and Andrea Motis. Ive had the pleasure of attending a Bria concert and have been following Andrea on UA-cam for years
I would put Valaida Snow as #1. She was a pioneer for women. Terrific piece!! Glad you highlighted female trumpeters, some people don’t even know we exist nor have any value in the musical world. Also, you accidentally said versaTALity instead of versatility, in case you didn’t realize.
