So happy to have found your channel. I just purchased my first amaryllis this year at Trader Joe's and it is blooming with no effort of mine. Love bulbs!!
I clicked this because that's a huge bulb you're holding in the thumbnail. Wow. I just got a couple in wax this season and love them. I was so excited to learn I can keep growing it year after year. Thank you for all the knowledge you shared in this. Update: It bloomed twice since I got it! And the second time I let the seed pods develop. Now I have seeds! Wish me luck!
Amaryllis is one of my favourite bulbs. I had one over Christmas and it bloomed two. I will start growing them again. They also make lovely (small) beautiful gifts.
I purchased one two days ago and decided to go back for another. I’m excited about my journey with my amaryllis. I just know they are going to bloom beautifully. 🙌🏾
I live in zone eight a and I’ve also lived in zone 8B we plant them in the ground here. My house came with a red and white brigaded one I work at a plant nursery and I’m going to be getting a white one red one and orange, one to plant in the ground along with some paper whites, I have a bulb garden on the side of my driveway with all different bulbs blooming throughout the year very beautiful thank you for sharing this video
What I great video. Please let us see what that huge bulb looks like in bloom and the others. I started my addiction to amaryllis last year. And this year I bought more. I just love them blooming when it's 20 degrees outside. I'm in N.Y.
Removing the blooms will not hurt the plant. The most important thing is to not cut the long strappy leaves. The leaves supply nutrients and energy to the bulb.
Glad to find you Do you put these bulbs in a dark cool area after they are finished blooming? I heard that this is so the bulbs can rest and be dormant. After about 6 weeks repot them Again so they will bloom.
I repot my amaryllis and place them into a cool room with plenty of light. The leaves are how the plant recovers energy for the bulb so I don't place my amaryllis into a dark room after blooming. It is similar to not cutting daffodils leaves after them bloom. If I were to rest my amaryllis bulbs it would be 2-3 months after they bloom. This will allow the bulb to recover. But I don't rest mine at all.
wow, I've never seen a bulb as large as that, it's amazing. would love to see that blooming too. How old do you think it is? Have you have any problems with the Narcissus fly invading your bulbs? All 4 of mine that I planted in the ground last summer have different extents of damage, and I've had to chip several of the bulbs, hoping they'll send offshoots. I have a plant to protect mine this year from the flies!
They do best if they don't have a lot of room in their pot. You only want to give them about 2" between the bulb and the pot. So your big amaryllis bulb will be perfect in that pot you showed.
I have been a big fan of amaryllis for years. I put my pots outside during the summer & they bloom like crazy. I just bought 2 white bulbs a few weeks before Christmas. One is blooming now but I’ve noticed that the edges are a little brown. Is that common for the white variety? This is the 1st time I’ve purchased that color. I think it’s called a double white with multiple petals. Also, what fertilizer do you recommend? Thanks, I just discovered your channel on UA-cam & I appreciate the help! Thanks for sharing. I’m in the US zone 7
It is common for white amaryllis to have small speck, fleck, or streaks of color. I use a general purpose fertilizer that is high in potassium for my bulbs.
Hi I just found your page and also purchased my first 2 amaryllis! If im hearing you correctly you leave yours out all year long? Other videos put them in dark or corners to go dormant 2 months and then bring them out and water. Is this not necessary if not I'd love your way much better lol
Thanks for the info. Somehow I have never managed to get my bulbs bigger. They seem to get smaller each year. Hope you orange flowered Amaryllis turns out better than you imagine. Take a trip to Holland and go get some amazing bulbs on the markets.
I grow mine in standard potting soil and in Lechuza Pon. I have great success in both. As for fertilizer, Amaryllis fertilizer requirements are standard, pretty much any slow-release or liquid fertilizer that has an N-P-K ratio of 10-10-10. If using a slow-release fertilizer, apply every three to four months.
Amaryllis like tighter quarters. When they grow in the ground they will thrive on growing excellent when they’re all kind of clustered together. That large pot for the large bulb will be better for it than going for a larger one pot.
My plant bulb looks black and it was outside it has a bud but I have bought the plant indoor it has a bud should we fertilise it and if so can you please give the name I have just started
one Christmas I had bought two amaryllis one red and one red and white and then I wanted to make them bloom again because the specialists told me that I had to master them in a fresh Android but I didn't think it was above 6 degrees so I put it in the shed and it froze now I always regret it 😢
So I have a friend that gave me 2 Amaryllis about 3 yrs ago and I never really paid attention to what they were till recently. Once I found out what they are I started looking into how to care for them. I've never gotten any blooms from them only the long green leaves. They were in 2 small pots so I thought I might have better luck with them blooming if I put them in the ground. I live in FL so it's generally warm most of the year. I did plant them individually but side by side. I supported the leaves gave them water but now the leaves are dying. I have a pretty good green thumb so it's very depressing that they seem to be dying. What am I doing wrong? I should pull them out of the ground and pot them again or are they just stressed behind being put in the ground and they will eventually start to take off. Thank you for your help.

I have a question
A kid picked the fresh flower of my amaryllis before their fading does affect my plant ?
Removing the blooms will not hurt the plant. The most important thing is to not cut the long strappy leaves. The leaves supply nutrients and energy to the bulb.

@@MacsGardenStyle My amaryllis has no leaves 😢 I just cut the spent blooms off today.
So pretty. !

I have had any issues with flies... however, all of mine are planted indoors in pon.

How do you deal with the red blotch? Great video!

Very informative! Nice job. Can you recommend an online place to buy large bulbs?
I have only seen them in person, but I will check old receipts to see if I can find an online vendor.
Thank you and Happy New Year.
I love them too! What do you use to fertilize them?
I use general fertilizer that is high in potassium. Something like Miracle-Gro Water Soluble works well.

I do not rest my bulbs and I have never witnessed any negative effects for plant growth or development.
HEALTHY BULBS, I ALSO HAVE SUCH HEALTHY BIG BULBS. NICE INFORMATIVE VEDIO .
Thank you.
Thanks for the info. Somehow I have never managed to get my bulbs bigger. They seem to get smaller each year. Hope you orange flowered Amaryllis turns out better than you imagine. Take a trip to Holland and go get some amazing bulbs on the markets.
I will plan a trip to Holland in the Spring. Thanks for the recommendation.
What type of soil is best for them

Received a gift pot containing tulips and one Amarillo’s- tulips gone by Amarillo in bud when should I seperate and replant bulbs?
Let it bloom!
Hi, can you plant them in Luca beads to does it have to be soil that I’ve always used . Thanks .
Yes you can! Just make sure the bulb and roots are not sitting in water.
Amaryllis like tighter quarters. When they grow in the ground they will thrive on growing excellent when they’re all kind of clustered together. That large pot for the large bulb will be better for it than going for a larger one pot.

where did you find that orange color
Dobbies Garden Centre, Milton Keynes
one Christmas I had bought two amaryllis one red and one red and white and then I wanted to make them bloom again because the specialists told me that I had to master them in a fresh Android but I didn't think it was above 6 degrees so I put it in the shed and it froze now I always regret it 😢
🥲
What do feed amrils
I use a general all purpose fertilizer that is high in potassium. Think, Miracle-Gro Water Soluble 20-20-20. In consistent, but low doses.
Never seen an orange amaryllis. What is the name of that one?
Amarylis Rilona! I can't wait until it blooms.
Please, show a picture when it does. Thank you
Would you be willing to give me some help with my Amaryllis? I'm really struggling..
What's the problem, I am happy to help.

I am guilty. I have thrown them away after the holidays. After your video, I will not do that again. Thanks.
They are great little bulbs to keep around.
