Awesome video, thanks for this. Going to tackle the same job this weekend. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you including the torque specs. Good stuff.
The video starts out with a quick unboxing, then the Perrin Pitch Stop Mount install at 2:20. At 6:09 is the Group N Transmission Mount and 15:50 is the Whiteline Positive Shift Kit Bushings install. Sorry, the intro wording isn't completely accurate.
This video was very helpful, I finished mine in a couple of hours. Unfortunately when I was torquing down the mount to the transmission as I was tightening the bolt suddenly became loose, I stripped it..so to anyone who's going to install this just be careful
Did you fix the threads on the bolts or just leave it? I always screw the nuts on, as far as I can by hand. Then use a torque wrench. I will admit my torque numbers are on the tight end of the spectrum.
@@epicpeaker3155 I just put some threadlocker and snugged it down as tight as I can without it stripping again, the passenger side bolts torqued down just fine though
You made a comment in this vid about needing a bracket so the pitch stop wont damage the fw. Any further thoughts/advice on this? I assume Perrin sells this so I will check there.
I heard the firewall had been strengthened in the newer models to remedy pitch stop failures. I'm trying to find documentation to support this claim. I would rather, avoid installing the brace if it isn't needed for the 2018. It is costly and not the easiest to install.
It's not bad. I put in a Grimmspeed "race version" Pitch Stop mount. I gave the Perrin one away. There is slightly more whine from the transmission, when decelerating in gear. I really like the sound. I wish it was just a little louder though. I might get a stiffer transmission mount than the Group N that I currently have installed. Will probably never go solid mount. Most people get it and end up taking it back out. Usually, the people who keep the solid mount are those with straight pipe exhaust and their car is already super loud.
I'm here because I want to do this too. Thanks for clearing up the Whiteline KDT956 insert movement; Group-N mount it is. Did you consider the Group-N Pitch Stop (Mount) to compliment the Group-N trans mount? I'm still not convinced on the 4 bushing positive shift kit as the trans brace does not move since it's bolted to the chassis at 4 points. I see them more as vibration dampeners. Your overall thoughts after having these pieces on for 5 months?
I'm very happy with all the parts! I didn't want the Group N pitch stop, so went with Perrin. I was contemplating a stiffer trans mount than the Group N, but went with it because many people went back from a solid mount to the Group N. At least the Positive shift kit is at least 2x as stiff as stock. All of these parts would be fine on a daily as long as you weren't always driving on terrible roads. Tbh, I would like it just a tiny bit more stiffer, but this is different for e everyone (subjective). If I do the Perrin engine mounts I might be exactly where I want. And if I start doing bracing, sway, etc. The performance will be incredible!
@@epicpeaker3155 thanks. Half of the roads here in SW OH are terrible. I'll consider the positive shift kit since I'll be in there. I want more than stock, but less than racecar. Sad Subaru set the WRX/STi up as soft as they did. Wonder what the type RA and S209 have there... Cheers.
@@K03sport I don't think pitch stop, pos shift kit, trans mount, makes it that harsh on bad roads. Mostly it makes the shifting sooo much better! After I did all the diff stuff and subframe lock down is when I felt it got annoying on bed roads. Also I have cheap Raceland coulovers which add to the harshness.
@K03sport Cheers on the upgrades! I'm so glad these cars have such a huge aftermarket parts selection. If you want a soft, mildly sporty 4 door, then this car is great without changing anything. I personally demanded more, as my car is about to turn into a track car. I have a huge pile of new stuff to install. Not, many cars in the WRX price with AWD, 4DR that have decent handling and okay power.
No problems at all! It's been a while since I installed the bushings, and everything is great. Only thing new is a Grimmspeed (race) Pitch Stop. Also, my coilovers are toast. Will be installing Fortune Auto soon. I have all new suspension components ready to go in too.
@@epicpeaker3155 I'm thinking I'll be installing some RCE SS-1 coilovers here soon. I got the idea for the Pinch mount from smeedia's channel. I haven't put any effort yet toward it. Still researching. Also, you mentioned that shifting was horrible w/ the stock pinch mount. Could you explain what made it bad?
@bivensrk Nice! Coilovers rule on these cars. I have some Fortune Auto coilovers and a lot of new suspension stuff I need to install. I liked the Perrin PS mount. But I upgraded to the Grimmspeed "race" PS and love it even more now. I did a lot of other stuff besides the PS to make my shifting awesome. It also has a brass shift bushing, boomba shift plate, Raceseng knob, etc. Thank you for the comment.
@bivensrk The Pitch Stop mount is the upper transmission mount. The stock PS has hardly no support (plastic with hollow thin bushings), so the whole transmission moves a lot. This does help to give take NVH from the driving experience. However, it results in a loose and sloppy feel when shifting gears. Aftermarket PS mounts have a metal (usually billet) frame and higher (75-90) durometer bushings. This makes shifts way faster, with a much better feel. Your shifts feel connected to the transmission instead of trying to shift through all the movement in the transmission. An aftermarket PS mount and the lower transmission mounts like Group N with the positive shift kit bushings are a huge upgrade in response and feel.
You're welcome! This is so cheap and should be done on every WRX to fix shifter feel. On top of that, short shifter, boomba shift plate, bushing and shift stop made the car go from terrible shifting to awesome. Check out my video on stiffening the Diff and subframe. It makes the WRX so much better.

How did the mount hold up with high hp?
Holds up great! Still works like new.
What is the Subaru part number for the group n? Thx :)
