Very nice! It must be awesome having everyday items that people buy but having the satisfaction of knowing that you made it--custom, for yourself! Would love to have the talent that you do.
I really love the look of walnut. But I'm just so extremely allergic to that entire plant. This is somewhat satisfying to see wonderful things like this being made without the risk of an anaphylaxis ^^
I don't know wether the wood would effect me or not, but touching the Nutshell or the nut itself gives me blisters and rashes. I hope it won't happen with the Wood because I found my love for woodworks and I want to be a carpenter.
Usually plain wood does not give any reaction. But to be safe a hard film finish like poly or lacquer would protect you from the wood. Severe reactions to walnut wood are extremely rare, and happen while working the wood. Somewhat more commonly the reaction is just skin and eye irritation. but even that isn't common. But the only way to know for sure is to test it yourself. Fittingly my profile picture is an unfinished walnut topped guitar ;)
Just wanted to say, your videos are awesome Peter! They are so addicting to watch, and as a non woodworker myself (yet) these videos seem to be pulling me into woodwork. Thanks, I enjoy all of them!
Would love to see an updated version with this that includes how to put that metal portion in there, maybe make it with multiple woods for a fun color scheme or using wood and resin. Like the secret wood ring and bowl but as a travel mug! (Maybe with another color other than blue if that happens?)
you could make some money selling those. i know about 100 hipsters that would buy them for over inflated prices so they could just have something interesting to talk about.
Very good. I was having an issue with my own cup because no matter what I just can’t figure out how to fix my tailstock so I can drill straight. It wiggles when the extension is not locked. I was just considering switching to my drill press and then boom 1:53. Thanks
So very beautiful it's amazing how you guys can turns a piece of wood in to something so Fabolous awesome beautiful may God bless your hands and may God bless you financially as well as physically
You mentioned in your wood hoarding video that you're not proud of this piece, but I think it's really beautiful! I'm not sure what in particular you don't like about this, but I hope it makes you feel better knowing many people (by the looks of the comments here) really do enjoy this piece :)
I think I've been binge watching too many of your videos- when you hollowed out the mug, I thought "huh- looks like a really weird milkshake............. hey maybe you could make an old fashioned milkshake cup out of MILK!!!!!" Lol
i just a seen video where someone turned a sphere that looked like planet eart..from that wood plus blue resin..i think his video was called blue planet woodturning or something..but i was wondering isit possible to do such a thing but with like..accurate continets..and water...it was very pretty
I cant remember what that bit is called you took all the insides out with, like a spoon bit from medieval times. I looked it up and found it once... I had an idea to make a mug with a handle where you use a block take out the center and cut 3 of the 4 corners off on a band saw... even it out and carve the handle out of the remaining corner
I would really love to make my grandfather one of these. He's a carpenter and though I'm just learning I'm sure I could do it with an in depth tutorial. Would you be able to redo this project or would it be a little too much? Love your channel by the way. All your projects are amazing.
Jonathan Marquez Thanks! I'm not much for in depth tutorials, but Carl Jacobson has a great video that walks you through the process. You need a lathe and some specialized scrapers, but it is a doable project! ua-cam.com/video/qw_WwgKxXM4/v-deo.html
Sweet mug. Though I must say that you really do suck for finding walnut on the side of the road and burl at that! LOL - it's somehow comforting to see that stuff like 1:50 hapens to other people as well. ;)
where did you get the insert? I would like to try to make one. I tell you watching you run that scraper that far off the rest into that thing had me sweating. I actually shattered a home made scraper (forgot to temper it after the quench) shatter on me doing the same thing a few days ago. Just found your channel. Lots of fun.
I found a 16-ounce stainless steel Insert here: www.woodcraft.com/Product/154508/Travel-Mug-Screw-Top-Kit.aspx?gclid=CjwKEAiA9s_BBRCL3ZKWsfblgS8SJACbST7DHXSYmduBw1ozTlVaL_oJu6pdvXN2BzrP-pVTOr3XJhoCOrTw_wcB
How do u think of these things. Like do u just look at an old block of wood and say to yourself "mmm that looks like nice to make a mug out of" n just do it... LIKE HOW TELL ME YOUR SECRET!
I do not have the skill to deep hollow like that, especially if there is a scrapper in involved. I probably don't have the skill because honestly, it makes me think terrible explody thoughts when I consider it. I don't want wood explosions.
these projects are funded by him turning tables off craigslist some times and other such stuff. or at least that's what i gathered from his confession video.
Peter Brown That's when people pull out the Bill Murray "You Suck" jpeg... Of course then there is Matthias, who seems to build everything with found materials. Gorgeous walnut by the way. Looks like you had enough to make a few more.
wordsnwood I just pulled it off the shelf again last night. It has a lot of cracks and voids in it. I might have to stabilize it for any future projects!
Peter Brown Stabilize the wood? Umm this is new term for me. Care to explain how this is done? Am i right its for to stop wood cracking more when it dry?
Hellsong89 Yes, in a way. When a block has a lot of cracks or voids, you can submerge it in resin in a vacuum and that will suck the resin into all the holes. Once the resin dries, the blank is then full of resin, and therefore much harder and less likely to break apart.
here's a good recipe I made up for in the mooring I call it nitroyou'll need Nescafé dark roast and preferably liquid creamer whatever you like and maybe nutmeg and cinnamon if you wanna make it holiday flavor 1. boil some hot water, or run some in your coffee maker it doesn't HAVE to be boiling that's why I said Nescafe and liquid creamer2. dump two large spoonfuls of the instant coffee into the cup with the liquid cream and any other flavors you can drink this now if your in a rush note it will taste gross......3. add as much hot water as you want this is very strong and if you like light coffee you may not like it but if you're in a rush you can put two spoonfuls of the instant coffee into the bottom of a cup and enough water to dissolve it and gulp it down like a rock star. it will be mega gross but I live buy this if I wake up late and I really need to go
how come I never see ads on your videos? they are advertiser friendly and get a lot of views, have you noticed any reason for that? I think you deserve to get paid ads on your videos so you can make more money!
Thanks.
I was blown away by the find. It was just lying there...
Very nice! It must be awesome having everyday items that people buy but having the satisfaction of knowing that you made it--custom, for yourself! Would love to have the talent that you do.
I really love the look of walnut. But I'm just so extremely allergic to that entire plant. This is somewhat satisfying to see wonderful things like this being made without the risk of an anaphylaxis ^^
you cant even touch the wood? wow thats crazy, what if its covered in an epoxy or something
I don't know wether the wood would effect me or not, but touching the Nutshell or the nut itself gives me blisters and rashes. I hope it won't happen with the Wood because I found my love for woodworks and I want to be a carpenter.

I can't fathom why you say you aren't happy with this. That there is a thing of beauty. Simply gorgeous.
+Xombie The base was too wide to fit into my cup holder. Thus it has seen very little use...
Aaaah, okay. Well, my cup holder is my legs, so it wouldn't have bothered me a bit lol. Still a beautiful piece of wood though, in my opinion.
See
That is some seriously gorgeous wood!
Would love to see an updated version with this that includes how to put that metal portion in there, maybe make it with multiple woods for a fun color scheme or using wood and resin. Like the secret wood ring and bowl but as a travel mug! (Maybe with another color other than blue if that happens?)
The most talented man on UA-cam. Seriously impressed by your work
amorembalming Well, you might be overstating it, but I still appreciate it!
speechless at the sight of it's beauty! NO INSTANT COFFEE IN THAT MUG!😉
That walnut is beautiful. Nice product.
Darren Lesinski Thank you!
Man your awesome this is the only channel about crafting I actually like.
+James Carson Thank you James!
That's the prettiest mug I've ever seen.
Zach a Thank you!
You have made a beautiful travel mug.
Bravo! Love this one. That wood is amazing.
Thank you!
I just discovered your channel, and you do great work. That walnut was beautiful. Great job.
Corey Empey Thank you!!
Yet another beautiful build!!
That forsner bit snag made me cringe.
+TwitchFast It was sped up quite a bit!
you could make some money selling those. i know about 100 hipsters that would buy them for over inflated prices so they could just have something interesting to talk about.
+Brian Walsh II We are a waah in hipsters here too!
+Peter Brown if marketed correctly i could see you getting $50-60 a piece for these easily.
+Brian Walsh II Hell, I bet you could double that in the right parts of town and still sell out of them.
Very good. I was having an issue with my own cup because no matter what I just can’t figure out how to fix my tailstock so I can drill straight. It wiggles when the extension is not locked. I was just considering switching to my drill press and then boom 1:53. Thanks
enjoy watching your videos and thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching!
It's a kit from Woodcraft. There is a liner and a suction fit lid.
Would’ve liked to see the whole process of it.... but that’s okay. Would like to see ya make another travel mug
So very beautiful it's amazing how you guys can turns a piece of wood in to something so Fabolous awesome beautiful may God bless your hands and may God bless you financially as well as physically
Vera Relerford Wow. Thank you very much Vera!
Where did you get the internal portion?
wallyworld
Man this is awesome. I have been watching a lot of your videos now I think I want to buy a lathe. Thanks for the inspiration.
+dlink86 You're welcome! Lathes are a blast, totally check out your local turning club! It's a huge amount of help!
thanks - great vido. Cool way of hollowing the piece - Using the drill press. Very simple and smart.
Thanks Fredrik! I tried it on the lathe, but I didn't have the right tool!
You mentioned in your wood hoarding video that you're not proud of this piece, but I think it's really beautiful! I'm not sure what in particular you don't like about this, but I hope it makes you feel better knowing many people (by the looks of the comments here) really do enjoy this piece :)
You should do another mug with the broken wood and epoxy. I think that would be a cool cup. Idk how it would work though.
That. Was. Awesome.
It is really amazing piece! I absolutely love it!
Jaroslav Karpycev Thank you!
Long time viewer. Just subbed...great work!
Best part by far was when you immediately stuffed it after trying the large bit.
+Derrick K I really thought that was going to work.
that is really pretty
todas las cosa q hace estan muy buenas me gusta tu trabajo soy de Argentina
Excellent! Great video, cheers...
Thank you Adam!
Absolutely beautiful! But how did you seal it?
It is an insert. The wood never touches liquid on the inside. The wood is a sleeve that fits over it.
Please make a multi-wood mug like those by Goodly Woods! I’d love to see what you can come up with.
wow, absolutely beautiful.
I would totally buy one
+Dusty “Ducky” Langley Thanks!
That is so Beautiful
Beautiful
I think I've been binge watching too many of your videos- when you hollowed out the mug, I thought "huh- looks like a really weird milkshake............. hey maybe you could make an old fashioned milkshake cup out of MILK!!!!!" Lol
Very nice. Walnut looks very messy to work with.
+Anthony Vettese It is very messy!
+Peter Brown Loved the video, how much does the stainless steel interior go for?
Very nice! They sale things things around here for $20-35 and they don't look anywhere as nice as this.
Cactinae Co Thanks! That piece of walnut stole the show!
I would so make some if I had the machinery and tools for it.
i just a seen video where someone turned a sphere that looked like planet eart..from that wood plus blue resin..i think his video was called blue planet woodturning or something..but i was wondering isit possible to do such a thing but with like..accurate continets..and water...it was very pretty

forstner bit
Do you make/would you be willing to make custom things out of wood? I'm talking wands, boxes etc.
Omg that is beautiful!
I would really love to make my grandfather one of these. He's a carpenter and though I'm just learning I'm sure I could do it with an in depth tutorial. Would you be able to redo this project or would it be a little too much? Love your channel by the way. All your projects are amazing.

Thank you so much Peter, I appreciate it greatly!!
how does it hold up in the dishwasher?
Could do with being a bit more robust, check out our indestructible mug made from steel, chain and a spark plug
Sweet mug. Though I must say that you really do suck for finding walnut on the side of the road and burl at that!
LOL - it's somehow comforting to see that stuff like 1:50 hapens to other people as well. ;)
Thank you for the video!
Thank you for watching it!

thanks
I think this is the first video I've watched where you were not wearing sandals using your lathe 😂
How much? And what would it take to add some sort of loop so I can clip it to my bag when not in use?
free if you make it yourself
Hey Peter you should make a sonic screwdriver from resin or milk jugs
Brandan Shelley That would be cool! I'm still waiting for Peter Capaldi to get his own screwdriver!
Sweet! Thank you for writing back. I can't wait to see maremof your projects
Can't wait to see more of your projects*
omg yes
How do u think of these things. Like do u just look at an old block of wood and say to yourself "mmm that looks like nice to make a mug out of" n just do it... LIKE HOW TELL ME YOUR SECRET!
great job I am working up to that for now its pen turning
Rod Levins Thanks!
that is beautiful
Wow, supernice..
Lalle Prutt thank you!
Can you stop before you add the metal and have a wooden cup, would that work?
+Arno Victor Dorian Yea, but you would need to seal the inside with something food safe!
Where did the awesome Shop Time music go to? I love your videos regardless but the music just put a pep in my step.
This was pre shop time
this was 3 years ago
I do not have the skill to deep hollow like that, especially if there is a scrapper in involved.
I probably don't have the skill because honestly, it makes me think terrible explody thoughts when I consider it. I don't want wood explosions.
I wish he had shown putting the cup bit in so then I can make this because I didn't understand what type of cup that is
+Getzopurple I bought it online. It's actually made this process. www.woodcraft.com/Product/148995D/WMAG---Woodturner%27s-Travel-Mug.aspx?
You messed up in making it so nice. Now you have a mug you won't want to take out of the house for fear of losing it somewhere :)
IceDragon978 The wood stole the show on this one. I could have made anything and it would have been cool! Thanks!
That Cuban coffee maker at the end of the video tho
old school 3 years back
anyone can tell me whats machine's name ?
Trường Nguyễn Văn lathe
I got so nervous with how thin the cup was getting while it was on the lathe.
Right at the end does anyone see the dog in the wood
"Ah! Thattle do"
*three seconds later... I DONT THINK SOOO
the wood he turned is just a veneer then? guess he bought a coffee mug and took it apart for the cap and actual container
Love it. How much? Lol
irvinehiker It's funny, I almost never use it, because I didn't taper it enough to fit in my drink holder!
1:24 that's what she said
i want one how much
+shannon provenzano Sorry I don't sell my work. I only make videos. But if you know any woodworkers, this is a pretty easy project.
ok thanks
What does he do for a living to afford these projects?
I'm assuming something in wood work perhaps?
Obviously UA-cam... but he had to start somewhere
these projects are funded by him turning tables off craigslist some times and other such stuff. or at least that's what i gathered from his confession video.
Now, the ads on the videos themselves pay for the shop expenses. I haven't had to do a table flip for a couple years...
Then that's good :) glad that just us watching your videos helps to allow you to make more interesting items.
by the side of the road !?!? Sighhhh......
I know right?! It was awesome!
Peter Brown That's when people pull out the Bill Murray "You Suck" jpeg...

That will work
+Bo Asay (Doublejab) thanks!
It took him one minute and twenty five seconds to say a word
That snag made me lose it
Do people ever ask you where you bought some of the things you made, and then don’t believe you when you tell them you made it?
now make it out of salt
I made it with wood prix instructions !
Ruined the heat treat on that tool at 2:27
1min 49 sec *gasp
how come I never see ads on your videos? they are advertiser friendly and get a lot of views, have you noticed any reason for that? I think you deserve to get paid ads on your videos so you can make more money!
1:48! :v :v :v
This video is 4:20 minutes long. lol.
JulianUndso Dude. It's a message! :)
