As an end consumer I used Valvoline Next gen oil 10 odd years ago. I thought at the time it was a great product and it was marketed as 50% re-refined oil which I personally thought was great. The market however must not have gelled with the idea and its no longer available and just disappeared from shelves after a while. As a collective we just don't put enough value on using recycling products (no matter what that end product may be)

Rerefined are in many products now. It’s just not advertised . They work as well or better than virgin oils.

Great video. I have always wondered the process for recycling used motor oils, and what the end product on the other end looks like. I'm just some rando with nothing to do with the oil industry, but I always like learning about the process.
Genuinely surprised that 80% of the waste oil can be recycled.
Finally, it was an interesting discussion on looking at the total picture of environmental impact of crude extraction and refining. The typical person has no idea the kind of environmental impact oil and gas extraction has on the world. It's a necessary process, but it also is a negative process. I traveled extensively across the west in oil and gas producing regions of the USA. The infrastructure done on public lands to facilitate gas and oil extraction is itself an environmental impact. It has impacts on air and water quality. There's accidents, spills, roads to be built, truck traffic to maintain, collection facilities and pressurization facilities, pipeline facilities. Well injection and pressurization for extraction, and then all the waste streams with high pressure extraction that must be dealt with. All these things are an invisible geographical and environmental impact.
I was looking at the end user pricing in small volume purchases of the Safety Kleen oil...it's actually quite competitive. You'll be paying about $25/6 quarts for their full synthetic dexos spec product. If I compare that to the cheapest standard virgin car oil, I'd pay about $3.60/qt vs $4.10/qt for the rerefined product. It adds $6 to a 5000 mile oil change. I don't think that's an unreasonable cost knowing that this is a product that is produced in the USA and Canada, and it helps reduce the need for oil and gas extraction on public lands.

does Safety Kleen make group 3 base stock? I live near the re-refinery of Breslau, Ontario, Canada and I have been trying to buy some performance plus full synthetic 5w30 because I have read a lot of good reviews of this product, but it is virtually impossible to get, I wrote to Safety Kleen and was referred to a reseller who doesn't sale detail, so my question is, where can I buy this product at a reasonable price and why it is not readable available for the DIY mechanic, thank you, great video.

Group II+ is hiw the end product is classified but we often produce a group III base lube in our process. Have to convince your local mechanic to use it because we don't push retail merchandising right now.

Try your nearest Peterbilt or Kenworth dealer actually - it's PACCAR endorsed and they may already use it and stock it in their parts department.
