Thanks for this video showing how dangerous riding ANY Greek trail can be in summer. I'm 19 years in Greece riding trails/ TET.I hope your video will give good considerations. Very useful Advice- I'ts even HOTTER in parts than the video + no shelter from the sun. Avoid June-August Always ride with someone else ,if not and you are not an advanced OFF road rider a hill for example may be impossible to re-climb -turn BACK. 3litres min water Garmin has lots of alignment problems in greece +most other gps as well. Phone can overheat if used as a GPS survival blanket of some kind required Garmin in reach if possible(no phone signal in some places) These are just some points. Please pin this if you can Nemo. Thanks safe travels.
Sure, my friend. It's pinned. The water quantity is the most underestimated thing in hot weather riding. I always have at least 5 liters of water and when it goes down to 2, I turn to the nearest point to resupply. Have a good cooler season in Greece, Nick!
Great content. It is hard section from TET. The Desert X can handle this very well. I have KTM 790 Adventure R and thinking of replacing it with Desert X. Being by yourself is the real challenge and adventure. Keep the good content!
Ktm 790 or even 690 would have been a perfect bike for that section of Greece TET, but yes, DesertX is also capable of it for sure. I did that in way too harsh conditions but I would love to do it sometime in the fall if there would be no rain. In the rain that would have been near to impossible. For me this type of adventure is not about the distance, is more about the experience and overcoming the obstacles. If you are into the same, then yes, DesertX is a really fun bike for travel. Thanks for coming along!
Even for us locals used to the heat, it can be exhausting. This summer i think quite a few foreigners lost their lives while hiking in the heat and the temps you ve faced did not reach heatwave 40c+ levels. You did very well to be careful.
Later in the trip, I did hit 40 and that was something faaaaar out of my comfort zone, for sure. At least I learned what I don't want to do in the summertime while attending the awesome land of Greece. Cheers!
@@nemoltu I can imagine... Greece is amazing in late May/early June, it is warm, around 25c, sunny and the scenery is green or late September, early October. You can have a swim in both cases after a day of riding. July-August is a pain to travel, sweating with even the lightest moto jacket. I mean you ve experienced it. Best of luck to your travels!
If you are at Alexandroupolis , try to visit Samothraki Island ... Theres lots of waterfals up on the mountain but of course you have to do it on foot , not climping . Theres 2 places you have to visit if you go there , Gria Vathra and Fonia Vathra.. Are small lakes with waterfals up on the mountain . Its pretty wild island with no heavy tourism and lots of young people trying to live like hippies ! The more you are going up on the mountain , the more naked people you will see ! Samothraki is a unique place of Greece with special wild nature and beauty , i have been there many many times and i sure you that its magical , the hall island have a strange energy that awaken you your deep natural insticts ! And hey , the food is somethin else , the best Katsiki ever (goat). Goats there are drinking water some times of the sea and their meet is already salty. Im 40 years old and the BEST food i ever had it was at Samοthraki and its called Gida vrasti with gamopilafo or γιδα βραστη με γαμοπιλαφο . Trust me !! Cheers from Kavala !!
Wow, so sad I could not get that info when I was there (I'm editing videos right now, but it was filmed at the beginning of this month or the end of July), but I have plans to come back at a different time of the year sometime in the future. I will definitely come back to this comment and let you know how it was. Thank you so much, Kostas, and enjoy the upcoming gold leaves season!
@@nemoltu keep in my mind that im not overreacting.. If you ask me for Thassos island , i said , yeap , its nice , but not special , nothing unique ... Samothraki is an island with a strong character , if i can use that word. Another island with character , are 2 basicaly ,are Paxoi and Antipaxoi , but its a different story there .. Cheers !
@@kostasrestas You dropped the first comment just before I was getting ready to get some food. And the way you described the food part of it made me run for it, not walk. I will check it out one day for sure! You've got me curious about the Paxoi and Antipaxoi... :)
it´s so sad to see all the forest burned. I know the greek TET very well and it gets burned more and more :( can feel the heat with you... thanks for sharing :)
Mate I went to Spain on a motorbike. Got to near Madrid and the heat was insane. The camp site turned out to be beside stagnate pond. The air full of mosquitos. I stopped my bike to pitch for the night. Had one of those tents you throw and it springs in to tent formation. It had been on the back of my bike and the exhaust melted through it in many planes. So as it opened there was holes everywhere. In the morning I went to pack up and found I had to wear my crash helmet with visor down because of the mosquitos. Who would build a campsite next to a stagnant pond? The thing is this. I was supposed to be going to Greece on my Desert X this year. Busy with work so never went. Friend said go in my Audi convertible. Relaxed and have air con. I felt like a traitor to the bike just contemplating it. This video proves she was right. Your long trousers and jacket. CRAZY. At least get air conditioning system for the bike. Aliexpress £500
I would never ride a bike without long pants and armor when I'm traveling. Even on this trip, I low-sided my bike in the Mountains of Romania on the way back. Thank god I was wearing my protection cause my Mosko Moto pants are a perfect example of the garbage now :). But I hear ya and now I definitely know what you are talking about. Btw, my jacket is a really good fit for these conditions, only I wish it was white in color. It's all mesh. Last year I crossed all of Scandinavia and Europe mostly via forest roads, pitching the tents wherever I would find a spot, so I feel you on the mosquitos topic, they are not a joy anywhere in the Swedish or Finnish forests. I think, instead of getting the air con I would rather go at a different time of the year. But this time it was a business trip, so It turned out like that.
@@nemoltu Im at the traffic lights in Cordoba Southern Spain after a horrendous camping night beside a stagnant pond full of mosquitos. I have just ridden for hours through the desert on my HONDA CBR600rr and as I pull up to traffic lights I look down. The bikes computer says as a bead of sweat trickles down from my forehead. Its 47 degrees outside. Im wearing my leather jacket, gloves and my black RUKKA full length trousers. Looking down at them I read in light blue the writing saying SUPER COOL. ha ha ha ha. There were anything but supercool. Theres no one around either except one car to my right. The lights change and I am off. The heat from my bikes engine is oppressive. I have to ride fast but then as I reached 140 mph the heat is still there. Its not going away and the engine heat is even hotter. OMG this is insane. A couple more miles down the rd I see McDonalds. Its packed. I know why. Do you know why? They have air conditioning. The CORDOBA village FOLK seem to live in McDonalds in the summer.
@@Enduroxoriates I met really awesome people when I was visiting your country, I even managed to get a ride with one fellow rider, from Kavala. Thanks much and keep the TET open, please!
Thanks for another great episode! Man, it must have been really hard to ride in the heat! I found it hard if it is above 28 celcius😅... specially in the technical stuff! How is the break pads and Chain holding up? I remember you had som issues with those last year? As always, looking forward to more of your MC Travel episodes :)
Thank you! Yeah, this year I learned what a hot day means :D 28- That sounds like a good line to draw. This chain is still from Finland and the sprockets are an OEM. held perfectly and the bike has 36K kilometers on the clock as of now,. The brake pads are holding, but the rear brake disk is as nice as the infinity sign :D :D D:
Where do you get your drinking water supplies on such an adventure? In coffee shops, restaurants, like shown in the video? Do you use some sort of water filter when you fill up your supply? Great video btw! 👍
Hi, I usually ask in gas stations or coffee shops. Sometimes I fill up in the water sources that are marked as drinking water places. I'm not very picky with my water. No, I don't use water filters. In all my years of traveling, I have never had any problems with drinking water and, I hope that will stay this way in the future. Thanks for watching!
