The RD350 was the one bike I always wanted but couldn't afford. It looked, sounded and smelled brilliant. I rode one once and it was superb. If they made it now I'd definitely buy one!

Respect for the bike, for the driver & for the mechanic who did the maintenance!
    Congratulations!
I alos have an RD, RD250ypvs, I bought it n 2007 with 28'000km (17'500 miles) and now it has 213'000 (133'000 miles). I do all the maintenance work myself because the RD is a simple bike (and the dealers don't know it anymore). Several works have become necessary over the years (it no longer has any original bearings); for example, I replaced the crankshaft at 120,000 km (75'000 miles).
I use the RD every day as long as it doesn't snow so even if it rains or -10 °C (14°F) I travel by motorbike, I go to work, on vacation (about 3000km / year), I go up and down the magnificent Swiss mountains but also Italians and French.
Sometimes I go on the track (with some difficulties given by 50 years of road driving) ua-cam.com/video/dtlNvvo-QEo/v-deo.html
I often take week-long vacations, me, my wife and the RD. This year we did the tour of Corsica, the French Alps, the tour of Lake Iseo and 3 days among the mountains of Switzerland. Maybe one day we will also come to Greece. Never say never!

The smell of 2 stroke oil instantly takes me back to the late 70s to mid 80s. Ive had a few LCs a couple of 125s one had a 180cc kit and went like shit off a stick also a 250 which wasnt the best example of an LC but never the less it never let me down, none of them did to be honest and i had a 350 ypvs and these LCs are the bikes I've had the most fun on and the ones I regret selling the most, I've also had a YDS7 250 akso a very reliable little machine it just kept on going, 2T oil and petrol was all she ever needed

A pleasure to watch as usual Andy. Like myself Dave is a panel beater/sprayer and we love to show our eye for colour, as Dave has done with a fantastic colour mix on the RD, I have also been an archaeologist (my second true love after bikes) but cant cross any skills over from that to bikes..... shame, I have never dug up a bike but my Suzuki TS100 dug up a horse brass in woodland when I was 14 and that was the start of my interest in archaeology, so there is the link I suppose. I still have my first bike, a CZ 250-471.4 Deluxe, which I bought in March 1980. It still runs, with just over 79,800 miles on the clock and I still ride it occasionally.
Most bikers end up selling bikes to finance their next bike. Not me!! I just bought additional bikes, over the years, keeping the ones I liked and selling on the ones I didn't become attached to. The most bikes I've had in the stable, at any one time, was 15. I've cut back to 9 or 10, since I've been forced into early retirement from electronics engineering, due to the onset of Parkinson's disease at 58. Luckily, I'm still medically allowed to ride with the condition. There are worst things to be afflicted with, for instance over 60 million people wake up every morning knowing that they're French!!

I rode that for twenty years, it was about ready to turn into dust and replacement parts are getting rare/expensive. Two years ago I got my third motorcycle, a KTM RC390. Watch out for the old man on a bike made for youngsters! All three were my only bike at the time, and all rode as much as possible with winter in Minnesota limiting my season to 8 or 9 months each year. Thanks for the great work,

Nothing like a ride on a two stroke to keep you young at heart. Once common, now becoming rare. Always a great conversation starter at the Sunday meet up's. Ride safe everyone. 😊

I had one 25 years ago and loved it. Selling that bike is one of my lifes biggest regrets! Mine was the same color as the first pic in the video. People say they were unreliable and dangerous but I dont agree. Mine never siezed or broke down at all, just maintained it normal. Dangerous depends on the driver, I never crashed it and at that young age I was not driving careful at all. It did not consume a lot of fuel on longer tours at legal speeds either like some people say. I think this is probably one of the best allround 2-stroke bikes ever built. I wish I can get one again but now they are rare and expensive, when I bought mine about 1998 it was cheap and noone wanted it.

Hi there, I owned a 350 power valve in the day. I am now 54 and if I won the lottery I would pay the earth to buy a spanking one. It would probably scare the shit out of me but I just loved giving the big boys a run for their money.

I raced these in the Atlantic cup ,in 1990 I was sponsored by Gauloise Blonde Cigarettes , and by Sonauto Yamaha who took the bike to France and had it tuned by Sonauto , Bike was very fast and You just cannot help but love to hear that screaming 2 stroke .. Just sounded so mean ..
I had 2 wins, 3 seconds , 1 3rd with No DNF's in 3 years always finished the races on the bike running .

Another great video, Andrew. Different, but interesting.
I like most older bikes, except cruisers.
I'm 61 in May and still like riding sports bikes, my 1993 YZF750R is my daily rider at the moment.
My 1973 CB360 is for my old age, it has electric start, for when I can't swing a kick start any more.
It's great having the same bike for 35years, but if I had it for that time, it would be round the clock a few times, my YZF750R is showing 57000 miles, and my FJ1200 is higher than that.

I wonder how many times he's had to strip down that engine? Has he had to replace pistons/do a rebore for example? Any gearbox problems or other parts that have failed during that time? Any mechanical thing can fail or wear out over time, this is true, a bit of TLC goes a long way to keep stuff working.

    • @davidc5830
      @davidc5830 2 роки тому +1

Hi Steve, had a rebore due to right hand piston detonate years ago, also had a starting issue & backfire which was caused by a faulty CDI unit, clutch basket replaced due to sticking clutch plates, usual powervalve seals nothing else engine wise, brake & fork seals & just general maintenance 😀

@@davidc5830 Thanks for that. Back in the day I remember some owners around my way blowing their engines fairly regularly, the worse one were a 125LC, that were suppose to be restricted but it would hit 90mph I gather, certainly faster than the Superdream I had but no where near reliable. To be fair, it were the inexperienced owners fault 99% of the time I feel, not a lot of money to spend on maintenance, lack of skill and no mechanical sympathy, bikes just got thrashed to death.

@@moncktonhotmail I was into rock but so much more, living in what essentially is a backwater, West Wales, no top bands came near! up and coming did the Uni's and there were some Welsh bands....Racing Cars had "they shoot horses" .....Dave Edmunds etc, we all loved Queen but I was not a metal head, Dire Straits and Floyd for me early days then I got into Foreigner (my fav band even today) the "foreigner 4" album was the best but my fav artist of all time is Kate Bush....she is the Silk 700 sabre of music.....Stunningly beautiful, sounds great and goes on forever, she may be a bit Hesketh V1000 these days but is still so capable, her music has been the soundtrack to my life. long live music and bikes.
