How to do top quality BACKHAND serves (with Craig Bryant)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 тра 2024
- In this video, top coach and service expert, Craig Bryant, explains how to do very effective backhand serves.
Most players serve with their forehand. But backhand serves can be very tricky to return too. You can generate lots of spin, get different angles and do lots of subtle spin variations.
In the video, Craig explains the basic backhand service motion. He demonstrates how to generate backspin, sidespin and topspin. And he explains how to use backhand serves effectively in matches.
As always, there's plenty of footage of myself struggling to return Craig's serves!

This is seriously a world class BH serve. I think the best thing about BH serve is you don't have to change your grip. I will start practicing this tomorrow!
I would say the best part about the BH serve is that you don't have to do a step around for the 3rd ball
@@TheButterMinecart1 não, como a bola volta na sua parte esquerda, você ficar reto na direção da bola e uma desvantagem por isso precisa se deslocar para o meio e fazer o drive ou topspin.
Very nice back hand serve tutorial...
I love table tennis

how suprising
Me too
Watching the clips of the serve in action makes them seem so powerful! Great editing as always. I'm going to use more backhand serves in my games.
Good video, the skill to do the topspin serve with backhand with the same move as sidespin and undespin is so useful and also when Craig perform topspin serve with forehand, very very tricky to perform and a great service to surprise our opponents. I'll be waiting the second part, How to do a quality receive of those backhand serves, especially when it comes by the right side of the table with sidespin or topspin effect. Regards.
Lovely tips by Craig Bryant.
As always a great video and a very easy to understand instructions from both of you. Since I watch your videos, I work more and more on my serves. Really great! Keep it up!
Thanks. Keep practising those serves. It can help you win a lot more points.
@@TomLodziak you are a great teacher not like those guys in pongfinity
@@user-yl4gc2pr6u don't talk about pongfinity ok
@@user-yl4gc2pr6u lmao Pongfinity make videos for the fun of table tennis, not to teach you the technical skills, you can't compare these two channels 🤷♀️
Indeed.
Guys, I just love your videos. :) They are very illustrative and educational. Thank you for your effort and sharing your knowledges.
Yeah, they have many knowledges...
Very good back hand serve instructions. I especially like all 3 serves look very similar and deceptive. Great video, thank you!!
As per norm an excellent serving video. Usual simple instructions, which make it easy to understand what you are doing. If I can master these type serves they will improve my game. Please keep them coming and very well done.
The best teacher..!!! Thanks..!!
Great serve demonstration
Thank you for putting this wonderful and helpful videos
Thanks coach I will try it
Another excellent demonstration from Craig. He is a class act.
old and dying 👨🎤
hi roger i need a sugar daddy
thanks for the video, enlightening!
Interesting. As a lefite, I have intuitively always favored backhand serves as they force the mostly right-handed opponent into sometimes awkward backhand returns and added some spin to it, not knowing which type of spin it was. I think I've been alternating between top and sidespin for it and made up for my lack of variety with decent control (short, long, slower, faster and tweaking the spin accordingly). Nowadays I'm also trying to add some forehand serves while improving my basics
it would have worked for older players, younger kids nowadays goes bananas on their backhand and flick flick flick flick flick all day sometimes even when you serve to their forehand.
Thank ZJK and FZD now I don't know what to do against those young b**gers
@@yudistiraliem135 As a young player you're absolutely right. I favour backhand, and use it as much as I can. My forehand just isn't as good
Very nice informative tutorial, will apply.
Very well explained!
Great video, as always
Great video, some very nice serves!
Very nice tutorial thanks!
Exactly what I needed. Thanks
Succinct as always, great demonstrations, hopefully this will help me add more variation to my BH serves. Looking forward to the 'Secrets from the Bundesliga' :D
good explanation from very good players... very nice video
Nice service technique ... And support me to learn table tennis, thanks you so much
Great lessons...thank you👍
Great guide!
Thank you for the tips.
Very good videos. Thanks a lot from Germany!
I do my backhand serve something like that but will have to learn how to split it up to the 3 different spins and vary them. 👍 Thanks.
Great lessons. Thank you.
Man that was very helpful thank you.
This is so well explained, Craig. Quality as always from both of you. Love that you also try to answer the questions. Thanks!
I find the backhand serve really great for deception. Also great with the right sidespin, less people are good at receiving it. I do not get much spin on this serve compared with a pendulum, but I guess this can be improved. IMHO, it is much harder to get a thin contact.
henrik i
Thank you! I think you’re right, if you spend more time improving the touch then of course you can improve it. Most players have a preference for a serve and it sounds like yours is the pendulum.
Good luck with your service practice.
@@craigyb22 Hi Craig, thanks for the great video! In which area of the server's side should the ball first touch the table to make backhand serves most effective?
Dieter Frei
That will change depending on the type of spin you’re using and the type of opponent you’re playing against. The backspin serve will need to be pitched a little closer to the net, then the topspin will need to make contact with the table, a little closer to you (not too much). Wherever you want the ball to land, you just need to bear in mind the movement of the sidespin.
Great Video again !
One more question @Tom Lodziak and @Craig Bryant. How about making one of those old, dull forehand topspin videos? Yes, sure, there are a lot of them already in many variants, also on this channel. However, I think you guys work really well together and Craig has a unique way of explaining the details.
Agreed! It would be good to get Craig's take on it. I'll add to my list.
Tom: I want to play around-the-net when Craig serve to my right, but Craig don't allow me to do so😂(Just kidding) 6:46
you guys are the best, thank you
Thanks for the help.
Your lesson is very helpful cause i have tried it with my friends its really effective.Thank you very much.

Very nice video!!.....Thank you!
Great stuff 👌
First.. good video ;) I can learn table tennis thanks to you ! Thanks !
Thats a big problem in my game, to serve and return the serve. I hope i can try this. 💪💪
First thank you for making these videos, they are so helpful. I have been using a pre made stiga bat for about year and it’s pretty much super glue at this point. The problem is trying to decide what blade to pick as there are so many choices. Is there anyway you could do a video about this and also name good reasonably priced options as well?
Wonderful clear I like very well thanks
Thanks Craig!
Nice foot work at 7:00 :)
I cann better:))
Table Tennis is my best. This game is my breakfast. Lunch and dinner. This game is my best friend in my life ❤
Look at Elias Ranefurs B-hand serve... Waldner also said that Kong Linghui hand one of the hardest b-hand serve to attack on, because of the low bounce.

Great video :3
Your teaching is too good , I am also a Bengal Table Tennis player ( defencer ) girl also 🙂 I really like this video thank u so much ...
Very instructional. Craig is an excellent server, who wins a lot of points on serve mainly due to the deceptive service action and resultant 3rd ball attack. Interestingly, it seems that Craig is holding the bat, whilst serving, virtually the same as players do during normal play. Most intermediate/advanced players appear to hold the bat between their thumb, and 2/3 supporting fingers whilst serving, then change to the traditional "shake hand " grip for normal play. This seems the case for most forehand serves, and indeed, a lot of players seem to serve exclusively using their forehand side in this way. Indeed I have seen a lot of very good table tennis players not even bother serving with their backhand, which I think is a mistake, as having variety and unpredictability whilst serving is a key element in anyone's game.
Thanks broo... Iam watching from Indonesia
Good tutorial
Great! Thanx a lot :)
Instructive video - I hope these serves can be used in doubles as well,.

Good!!
Perfect.
Craig and Tom, these were great tips! I mostly serve backhand... One question though: I understand the rationale behind your serving position (have the short serve to the opponent's forehand) but isn't it dangerous because you have your backhand side wide open? Woudn't it be safer a more central position?
The logic is that because these serves have sidespin, it makes it quite difficult to return to the wide backhand corner. But of course, there is still a risk. Some players (myself included) do prefer to serve backhand from the middle of the table. Other players will serve backhand from the backhand corner. No right or wrong. Try out different positions and see which works best for you.
Glad to see Craig IS HUMAN at 5.48. Like it!
Hi Tom and Craig
Thanks for sharing these awesome techniques. I really enjoy Craig’s tricks. Coming to this video, what would be an ideal return technique for a right hander facing short backhand service on forehand?
Probably the easiest return for a short ball to the forehand is a forehand push. Although a forehand flick may be possible if you can get close enough to the ball.
