- Great Britain’s tour of the southern hemisphere came to a disappointing end when they were condemned to a 28-10 defeat by Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby on Saturday.
The Lions raced into an early 10-0 lead but conceded a try on the stroke of half-time to give the Kumuls a sniff, before conceding 22 second-half points without reply.
Great Britain struggled to cope with the humidity of Port Moresby and the physical challenge of the hosts as they succumbed to only a second defeat by Papua New Guinea.
The Lions got off to the worst possible start, losing captain James Graham with a head knock in the very first tackle, which meant an early introduction for Luke Thompson and one less option on the bench.
But it was a promising opening quarter from the tourists, with Blake Austin involved in most of the early play and it was the Warrington stand-off who opened the scoring after 14 minutes, taking Jake Connor’s pass to dive over at the corner.
It looked to be plain sailing for Bennett’s men when hooker Josh Hodgson squeezed over for a second try after 21 minutes and Gareth Widdop added the conversion to extend their lead to 10-0.
The scores subdued the passionate capacity crowd at the national stadium but the Kumuls provided a hint of their threat when winger Edene Gebbie went close and they struck in stoppage time when substitute Edwin Ipape scored a breakaway try that gave PNG some hope.
Kyle Laybutt’s conversion cut Britain’s lead to just four points and the home side hit the front early in the second half when scrum-half Watson Boas won the race to touch down a grubber kick from Gebbie. Captain Rhyse Martin added the goal.
It got worse for the Lions five minutes later when centre Justin Olam touched down Laybutt’s kick on the last tackle and Martin’s goal made it 18-10.
And there was no way back for Britain when Boas re-gathered his own kick to send full-back Alex Johnston over for his side’s fourth try after 56 minutes.
A humbling afternoon was then complete when second-rower Nixon Putt pounced on a rare error from full-back Jonny Lomax to grab his side’s fifth try after 65 minutes and Martin kicked his third goal. - Спорт

Though id never watch rugby league matches (just only highlights), but I think this sport is interesting, even so there are my nation's brother is very strong to this sport. It is no longer the Great Britain Team but a Ghastly Britain Team. Let all the Pacific Island countries arise and dominate the sporting code of Rugby League from now and into the future. If Tonga can beat the Kangaroos, i can already see that PNG kumuls will beat the ever fancied and boastful Australia Kangaroos in the not so far away future. All PNG needs now is greater emphasis and support on its pathway developments right from junior or developmental levels and in doing so, we will/can produce the best in the rugby league making. Once we have plenty of Papua New Guineans in the NRL, Kumuls will and can beat any team because we have the natural Aggression inbuilt in us which no one can dispute and no other team has regardless of their pack and size. @Chris Thornburn Mate the stats speak for themselves. PNG had only 2 regular NRL players, 2 Super League players and everyone else on the team was either from QRL or Third tier super league level. There was simply NO excuse for GBL to loose with that kind of margin or even to loose the game at all! Can't make excuses. Truth be told GBL underestimated PNG Kumuls. They all knew this was the last game for 2019. It was win at all cost. GBL had a very impressive line up on paper. NRL and Super League talent with years of experience. Don't be making excuses. Its weak. If PNG had lost, they would have lost to a much better team and learnt from the game. Take it on the chin. You win some. You loose some. In saying that I'm sure GBL will come back a whole lot stronger in 2020. Great teams always do.

Weakest British side i have seen! Strongest PNG side i have seen,nearly,should of beaten the strongest Fijian side i have seen! Pacific Nations thriving in Rugby league except Samoa who just need more of their top tier players to commit like the Tongans do!

Aussie is the great nation of rugby league but yet you wont see many talented native Aboriginal in the system..I wonder why? To be honest Aboriginals are very talented and athletic...and it proves in the likes of JT, GI, Ado C, Latrell M etc..

Great Britain were very poor . No idea's in attack or kicking. But full credit to PNG once they got on a roll they were quite impressive, compared to watching them in the past. Get rid of Bennett get rid all the Aussies born player's and get Powell as coach.

Congrats Kumul. As a rugby union & lesgue fan I think Kangaroo/wallabies and Kiwi/all blacks as world champions are not taking step to promote & grow rugby league/union in the pacific islands and regarded them as tier 1 nation. Pacific island need to involve in more test match and support to grow & Be competitive. PNG, Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, Cooksl Is, etc are potential team in an international arena and can compete with the world best, no doubt about them..

He went for good players over a good team. If you look at each individual player you'd say they are good but as a team they are shite. Lomax is the wrong choice at fullback, Austin the wrong choice of wing and Hardaker is definitely wasted at centre

Ladies and gentlemen this is why rugby has strict eligibility rules. This is an accurate look at how league and rugby would look. Tbh England is still a magnificent team just worried about the other home sides.

This is how history will repeat in this (2021) World Cup; 1. PNG kicking deep into England's territory, tackle there and pressure them to make mistake and take advantage of that, if it means kicking early at 1st 2nd or 3rd tackle, it will help; 2. Avoid all types of mistakes, only to invite England into Kumuls territory to score, as the Englanders are known for piling cricket scores on opponents especially in this World Cup; 3. from back-line to forwards English men are taller and stocky built then PNG, thus gang tackling will do, one down two up; this is the only sure way to beat the English men, and be reminded that Kumuls have beaten them already in 2017 World Cup.

Last time GB did a tour was ages ago against NZ. They smashed them, so people probably thought they were going to good now. They've got some big names in there, don't know where it all went wrong.
