Why I Converted From Rotary and RX7s to Pistons and Honda Civics

- Made a pretty massive shift from rotary to honda has been an interesting trip. Going from one of the most legendary japanese imports icons of the 90s to Hondas that have a typically poor connotation was quite a switch, but I'm happy I made it.
damn shame, i respect both brands being a FD owner it sucks to see someone who had so much passion for them switch. Ah well. Its the reason i subbed to you.
Definitely gotta say I’m real sad to see no more rotary videos, but I definitely understand the welcoming Honda community, my first project car was an integra, and I’m working on a k swap, and there’s so many resources and people, and it feels relatively easy to get into, compared to the rotary community, been looking into it for the past year, and still have so many questions, and it seems much more of a monumental task to become a rotary person compared to a Honda person due to the exclusive community, but I also have to add on, that on your new channel, you do seem a lot more relaxed, and happier with that channel than you did with the rotary channel, so at the end of the day, I’m glad to see you move on to something better for yourself
Cars are cars. Have fun. Ignore the purist nerds. I started with a 92 integra that had a ls vtec built by me in my bedroom as a teen lol. I've thoroughly enjoyed every car I've owned from Hondas to Audis. I'll stick with my Rx7 for the long run but it's pointless to hate on a manufacturers offerings just for the sake of "us vs. them" bs. That's the issue with the US car scene (amongst other things) as a whole.
I mean how can you ignore and avoid them when for the most part sometimes you need to ask those people for the most valuable information and it's no fun going to them when they are like that especially when you kinda need them to put you onto what you need to know.. So I can understand but it's bit always the case with those guys

Please do a video on why you won't own a rotary again.. I've owned a rotary for 3 years now and have been in the community for a year. Love the cars but getting a little frustrated with the people. Every shop owner thinks his is the best and everyone else sucks.

Thanks for explanation. I have built Rotary’s and Honda’s and I’m a Diesel Technician by trade. Nothing sounds or as smooth as a Rotary. But you can’t beat reliability of a Honda bang for the buck. Both are similar in simplicity of using original parts to go fast. I just want to know when you getting a haircut Lmao. I enjoy both the channel’s you’re involved in keep doing what you’re doing. 👍🏼

True automotive enthusiast going with your passion people have to respect that. I just started watching your channel in 2021. True gems to rotary owners. As Im a honda and bmw owner/ tuner for over 15 years and just purchased my first rotary in 2021 Just for the experience. I couldnt agree with you more. In regards to car culture and price. Ill have my fun for a little while then moving on. Not alot of support in diy tuning and aftermarket parts. Look at Rob Dahms page another great rotary source ive seen since my ownership. However you see more tear downs amd rebuilds than the cars performing. Budgets set on those builds are enough to just buy a supercar or an investment property. Cars are ment to be driven not to sit in your garage for true automotive enthusiasts. Its cool to build something that nobody else has. But if you have responsibilities to family and life like many people in this world. Many other options out there for less time and money. That way you can enjoy your time behind the wheel. Much better than being stuck in the garage waiting to figure out the next challenge to keep the car on the road. Good luck on your new venture. Welcome to the honda community.
Rotary community is a rip off. It’s only good if you got your own CNC machining centre’s to work on them or even machine rotor plates out of billet. Can’t believe how much they charge for rotary engines. The crappy cast iron rotories cost an arm and a leg.
The community is also extremely toxic. I had a rx8 and so many rx7 purists we’re just weird even at local events in the 🇺🇸, super lame!

well im someone who is going from a honda to rotary. Honestly for me it seems like an age thing, the older the members get they move on to other things.

I'm advancing my ignition timing to the maximum setting on my 1998 Protege without any knock occurring with the use of my prototype. Looking at increasing the compression ratios and adding water/meth injection next.

I hear you on the community part for sure!! I’m about ready to sell everything and move on. I’ve never dealt with as many crybaby elitist shops and drivers in my life. Sucked every ounce of money and fun out of the car for me. From half assed workmanship to outright stealing lies and almost cult like groups of enthusiasts. Move on and have fun again.

Maybe you don't check this channels comments anymore, but I beg you to reconsider owning an RX7 again. So unique and rare these days! It's been a long time, maybe the rotary scene has changed? I never did a follow up video so I don't know what your problem was with the community other than what you alluded to.

I sometimes wish the Mitsubishi community was welcoming like Honda. Every time someone wants to do something to their base model Lancer or whichever “slower” Mitsubishi it is they always say just get an Evo. Instead of being supportive regardless of price and the amount of work that’s required to achieve one’s goal. I really hope it changes, I have so many ideas but every time I express them they get shot down with negative comments like just get an Evo.

I asked one question on importers in the U.S on reddit and had someone lecture me on the rotary because apparently all 16 year olds know nothing about cars and have no experience at all.
Definitely excited. I've got a s2000. I left the rotary life for the same reason... Mostly because of how expensive it is tho if we're being honest lol.

Rotary’s are not that hard to work on I get where you’re coming from with the “energy of the rotary community” I think it’s because people are tired of people who get rx7s and don’t know shit about them blow them up and junk the whole car.

I’m new to the FD RX-7 I purchased (Omaha), but I’ve been in the Subaru community since 2007, which is hit and miss with people being cool or clods. I think that because the low numbers of rotaries you may experience one type of people (clods) in the community than you would in large communities like Subaru or Honda. Good to see you back though!

I’m a rotary and a honda guy. Daily drove 2 rotary cars for 6 years each. Rotaries are more fun but it is nice to have a shitty 4cylinder slow manual daily.
