So many great points made! I too use special new art supplies as a motivator for good behavior. One quick question..when kids go to the calm corner and use a fidget, what do you do with the friends that won’t give it back after the timer? I have a few students like this…

Good question! when I give students the fidgets I explain that when the timer goes off I need the toy back so they know what to expect. If they don’t give it back then they have to stay in calming corner and can not participate in art. They can not walk around or talk to other students while using the fidgets. When we line up at the end of class they have to put it back if they have not already.

Katie, as. 22 year veteran of secondary art who is now being asked to finish his career at an elementary. this was so awesome and valuable. Gotta ask if I may. You say no reward system but then you mention a "golden" paintbrush. Isn't that a type of reward? If you could elaborate it would be greatly appreciated.

The brush is really just to communicate with the class and homeroom teacher. Other than the brush and a “good job” there is no party, sticker, etc. All my students get an end of the quarter free day despite the classes behavior. Here is info about the end of quarter ua-cam.com/video/mQPszRmvuIw/v-deo.htmlsi=wPVIxYyRetbnD7vG
