Hi there, did the airbags affect the comfort of the car when unloaded and at 5/6 PSI? Or did it pretty much feel as before when u didn’t have them fitted? Thanx
The air bags were fitted after I had the all terrain tyres fitted. At that point there was very little difference in the ride comfort with the air bags at their minimum pressure. But the tyres made the ride feel a little rougher. They are the same size as the original tyres but require a minimum of 38-40 psi which in itself effects the ride compared to standard radial tyre pressures. Hope this helps and thanks for your comment. Cheers!
I had the air bags fitted in March 2022 the car has done 30,000km since then and 12,000 km of the 30,000 has been towing the van. Tow ball down load around 220kg and the car GVM at 2740 kg. I run 30psi in the bags. The bags have worked well and I have been very happy with them also they hold their pressure spot on. Thanks for your question. Cheers!
Hi Sep. Very informative video. I notice that on the MU-X you have inverted the hitch, which I think I need to do also to get the right level for my off-road van (Crusader Gladiator Force). Is it a genuine ISUZU hitch or another brand? I can’t get ISUZU customer care to state that it’s OK to invert their standard hitches, even though and unlike the Ford Everests there is nothing stamped on them to say they are not meant to be inverted.
I have a 2018 model mux with a genuine Isuzu tow bar. The hitch is Hayman Reece 3.5tn reversible, part number 21126 purchased from supercheap auto which fits perfectly. The original Isuzu tow hitch cannot be reversed as the weld running along the underside of the gussets will not allow the tow ball to fit snug onto the hitch. Hope this helps and thanks for your comment. Cheers!
@@sepsadventures perhaps the 2023 models are different, as I can reverse mine with DO35 coupling and other friends have done so without impediment. It’s more a voiding insurance question if manufacturer won’t certify the use in inverted position. For peace of mind I could always go and buy the one you have.
@@mckeeje keep in mind I did not seek approval from Isuzu to use a Hayman Reece tow hitch I figured they would not approve it as it is not genuine. Cheers!
“In response to your enquiry about altering your towbar and tow ball, the Isuzu UTE Genuine Accessory towbar is tested both statically and dynamically, changing the design of the towbar (ie. turning the tongue over) negates the tests conducted. As such IUA are unable to provide any technical information or advice in relation to such a modification. The fitting instructions (which will normally be provided at handover) illustrate the tongue in the recommended position; if there is an alternative position it would be depicted there”.
The instructions refer to a video on you tube called, how to operate your airbags, which shows the correct use of the bags. It states that you need to measure the distance from the centre of the rear wheel to the underside of the wheel arch then load up the weight and adjust your airbag pressure so the vehicle height is back to that measurement. The instructions also refer to minimum pressure of 5 psi and a maximum pressure of the high pressure bags of 60psi which must not be exceeded. Hope this helps. Cheers!
@@placestosea I verified the information was correct before answering your question. When I had the bags fitted a warning sticker was placed on the inside pillar of the door of the car which has a scan code which has the instructions that states what I replied to you. I just checked them before replying. The airbags are not designed to carry the full weight of the car so you need to take the measurement before you pump them up and not exceed that measurement that way the bags are not taking the full weight. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Sep. Couple of things. We just got our van and car weighed and while legal they recommended air bags. So going to look into it. Secondly, when we got our MUX we had the 12 pin fitted. It came with a VSR under the bonnet. I found that because the MUX has a 'smart' alternator the voltage would drop down below the VSR threshold and it would turn off. I changed this for a design of my own which has worked fine. However I notice you are just using relays. I was wondering how you found this over the long term. Are they reliable? And where did you get the coil volts from to turn them on. What type and rating are the are they? Thanks
Same here, the auto electrician installed a Redarc VSR which is not recommended (by Redarc)on a car with a smart alternator. The VSR was removed and replaced with two OEX 70amp relays. One feeds the Anderson plug that charges the caravan battery and the other one provides power to the caravan fridge when travelling through the 12 pin plug and are both fused separately. The power source for the relays comes from ignition activated terminals in the fuse box located on the right hand side of the start battery. The electronic stability control Anderson plug is wired so it is on all the time and fused separately. The relays have never given us any trouble and have so far been very reliable. The airbags have also been very reliable and trouble free. I normally run around 20-22 psi with around 220 on the ball and the car gross at around 2700kg. Cheers!
Thank you very much for the info. I purchased a relay myself years ago but when it was powered on for hours at a time it was too hot to touch, so removed it. There is a rule of thumb in electronics that if you can't hold your hand on it, then it's too hot! It was a big 200A type with screw teminals which I thought would be ideal. I sourced my +12V from the rear of the cigarette lighter socket in the glove box. I was reluctant to fiddle with the fuse box. Lastly I am surprised and disappointed at auto electricians not understanding the 'smart' alternator problem for caravans. Of course these issues will all go away one day when we run around with carvans with enormous Lithium batteries!!@@sepsadventures
@@leonwilliams5175 what’s worse is the auto electrician worked at a caravan centre and when I said the VSR install is incorrect he said I do all my installs the same and never had anyone come back. !!!!!!!
@@sepsadventures same here. I knew about the problem and asked him. He started the engine and said look it works. Trouble is that the alternator always starts high! I didn't check again until found the fridge was not cold on a long trip. I then measured the voltage over time and was amazed how much it varies.

Useful information, just fitted HP air bags to my 2018 LS-T Mux.
Glad you found it helpful. Cheers!
Did I see wear on

What does your instructions say about pumping them up before you hitch up the van?

@@sepsadventures interesting, as I was told to pump up the bags before the load was applied?

Curious, have you fitted a transmission cooler to your my18?
No, car is stock off the production line, never had an issue with the transmission or anything else, only extra is the airbags. Cheers!
