Hey, just spotted this video, nice job! Have to admit that I just so happen to have purchased a '78 DT-175 that isn't running very well. There's a chance that the carb may not be original but even so, is there any chance that you could tell me what the jetting is on your bike? Thank you.
This series literally got me back into bikes. I binged the whole mini series. Had an old xl250 when I was younger. After finishing the series I went out and got a cr250r trail modded it and started riding with a few buddies. Haven't found another series like this. The terrain you ride is the gnarliest fun riding I've seen. Hope for some more videos and series like this! P.S. I started ordering from you guys at Rocky for all my parts, and cannot believe how fast they get here. (NB Canada) over a week faster then the parts I ordered from one province over the same day!!
Wow, that is awesome and exactly why we make these videos! Glad you're finally back out enjoying the trails. Thank you for the feedback, we appreciate it!
Wow just reading this from nb canada too small world I grew up riding old yamahas with my dad who rode an 81 dt175. Hes 69 years old and still riding it. They are great old bikes
Another great vid from Rocky Mountain ATV! Demonstrates focusing on riding skills rather than the latest and greatest machines might be a better choice. Great riding guys
Doing it old school 😁, it shows how far we have come, my 1978 DT250E was my first bike, it was great then I had XL/XRs pre Prolink, I put FoxShox on them, those were the days!!
I Really Enjoyed Your $500 Series & Your Bike Was My Favorite. I'd Love To Have An Old Bike Like That. You Guys Are So Lucky! Reminded Me Of My Youth So I Subscribed.
i love the vintage bikes, watching 5 miles of hell series is what got me into bikes specifically the vintage bikes, I would love to get one but im an atv guy at heart and would love a vintage bike like wes' yz125 or even the dt, an rm125 or 250 would also be cool but finding parts is just not easy
This was the main reason I was so interested in this series! The old YZ was a treat to watch as well. We just brought a 1975 Suzuki TS185 back from the dead! She runs like a champ. We finished the bike for a grand total of $478 xP Nothing like the bottom end of an old "3 stroke" ;] Hahah.
Awesome! Good job giving it a 2nd life! I have a 1974 TC185 I am fixing up as well. The TC is basically the same as your TS but has a hi and low transmission and E-start. Sure it weighs about 50lbs more than the TS, but it is sweet! - Justin
There is a like new 1981 DT175 for sale on Craigslist $2000.00. This video makes me want to buy it. You ride it better than most people can ride a brand new KTM.
@@rmatvmc Yes i did! I got a 78 KE175. Doing a complete tear down and restore. Which incidentally has also inspired me to start vintage parts and restoration service as a side gig.
I rode both CT1 175s and DT1 250s on Colorado trails and deserts for years. I've been riding TW200s and XT225s for a while, but your series of vids has enticed me to go on the hunt for another CT or DT 175. They are hard little bikes to beat.
Just picked up a 75 dt250 mint for $500 and a chainsaw 👌 I learned on the 175 black and blue tank had it for years so this bike brings back lots of amazing memories
Dude, that is some gnarly stuff all you guys are doin..! 😳 That’s some damn good ridin, and well done to all of you, and that little DT175 is just an AMAZING Lightweight Enduro ..MACHINE…!! 😉😁👍
What footage and nice comment to it. The backdrop would remind one of outlaws and Indians chasing you. But perhaps I've just seen too many westerns. Regards from The Netherlands.
Does this mean we will get to see each bike from the series broken down into individual episodes?? Loved the whole series of you all fixing the old bikes for this ride.
The bikes of that time were not made to do that extreme stuff . But then again you did it anyhow . Shows you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get a great motorcycle 😎
Those engines were notorious for the crank seal going out on the trans side and it would burn the tranny oil leaving a cloud of smoke. Talking about the Yamaha 125/175/200 engines. - DT/IT/YZ all of the air cooled ones.

Many beginners are overwhelmed by there newest KTM race ready bikes!Damned what can he do with a It175? ha ha!
You need montesa or bultaco for that hill i had dt 175 took the motor out and installed it on 1977 yz did some changes and everytime i shifted gears front of the bike come up.cheers.
I really want to see more of the cameraman (and one other?) riding the CRF230F(s). I may attempt 5MOH on my 230F next year and want to see some inspiring footage ;)
So I was one of those cameramen, and I say do it! The CRF230F was perfect for that terrain. Just make sure you're jetted correctly and maybe get some wrap around hand-guards and you can't go wrong! Sorry we don't have more footage of the 230's. You don't get many chances to turn the camera around on yourself when you're the camera guy - Josh
This was my first of many dirt bikes, same color even. I would push it 3 miles all the way to the local MX track and back home again after a day of riding before I even had a drivers license. With it’s 2” of suspension provided by writing pen springs I almost broke my ankles many times coming down off of jumps this bike had no business taking.
Just picked up one of these that sat for 32 years with only 1300 miles on it. Going to be using the engine for a backyard shifter cart and will be using a KXT250 rear end. Any recommendations on tweaks or modifications for these engines? Already got Boyeson reeds ordered and a carb rebuild kit on standby.
You can use certain year Yamaha IT 175 heads to bump compression WAY up did it to my dt 175 and it's a huge difference in power. You need to run high octane gas though
I'm pretty blown away, I just bought a 1980 DT175 and watched the owner ride it around his property, but i just stare at it, I haven't been on a bike in 25 years, but $350 was hard to turn down 😅
