1985 Cadillac Seville... 22K mi! DID I RESCUE IT?

- I could not pass up this estate car rescue. By all evidence, this 1985 Cadillac Seville has been parked in a garage since 1994. I don’t go looking for cars like this, but this one seemed to find me. Not sure what I am going to do with it, but it is going to be a bit of an adventure. Stay tuned for more!
The 85 Seville is about my favorite car ever - I owned 2 of them, and loved them. I'm hoping you do take this on as a project, restoring it to showroom condition. Looing forward to updates on your progress!
I happened to nab an '84 a number of yrs ago with about 41K miles. I started working on it but got side tracked for 4 yrs taking care of my mother and she passed away last month so I will be back to working on it. It also has a dark blue cabriolet roof like that one of yours. What caught my eye was the gorgeous blue cloth velour interior. Rarely you see one with the cloth tufted button seats. Someone put one of those gawd awful faux RR grilles on it. I dismantled the front end to remove it all and got the radiator mount powder coated along with many other parts. Also someone over charged the A/C and blew a hole in the evaporator and both sides of the case underneath. I had to remove the fender to replace all of that. At the same time I replaced the power antenna. Now I have to put it all back together. Luckily the front chrome grill piece from a '81 covered the hole they drilled to move the hood ornament. I will need a complete repaint. Mine is a sand gray color. Looks more beige color. Mine is a FL car with no rust underneath. I also have a '91 Fleetwood Brougham, 51K, in the shop to finish working on.

Nice, it's definitely worth saving.... change the oil pump right away..... I had a 4100 in a coupe Deville... fail I replaced it with a 307 Oldsmobile engine out of a cutlass, I drive an 88 Brougham now, out of South Carolina
@@jeffreyfelder7981 Every so often on the Cadillac Forum website the question comes up on swapping out the 4100. I sort of wish someone would post an answer on what all they had to do. I often wondered how the carbureted 307 would operate the A/C. The 4100 ECM ramps up the RPM's when the compressor engages. The 4100 seems to do okay in my '84 Eldorado but under powered for my Fleetwood Brougham. The Fleetwood does okay cruising down the highway. In stop and go traffic it just doesn't have much pickup and go.
As I stated on another post, thanks for rescuing another classic Cadillac. Seville was not my choice, but this has a neo classic body style so much better than other Sevilles. The interior is one of the most luxurious ever. My 89 delegance Brougham had same seats but plush velvet. Tough road ahead. Hope you succeed. Would suggest replacing fake convert roof with vinyl.
It seems people either love or hate this style Seville.

Glad you are rescuing what appears to be a nice example of a beautifully designed Seville. It appears as though on the glove box door there is a "Touring Suspension" label--but it is absent from the driver's side trunk lid, where it would also have appeared. That added a wider tire track, if I recall, and added to the ride and handling characteristics--and it was a rather "rare" but desirable option! Check out the video posted by Competition Cars and a five stage paint correction technique and your example will become showroom condition all over again! Good luck with it!
Good eye on the missing badge. It is actually in the car. Years ago I had an Eldorado with “ Touring Suspension”.
Will paint correction correct paint crazing? GM Cadillac division up thru 92 used lacquer paint. Why they never went to 2 stage in the early 80's is beyond me. So to fix the crazing it seems the only option is a repaint. I am really having a difficult time finding a shop to do a repaint. I was told you either have to strip to the bare metal or seal the lacquer with epoxy before doing a 2 stage repaint. With the Seville you need to remove the side upper chrome. I know for a fact to remove that spear from the front fenders you have to remove the fender. I doubt masking is an option. The doors I bet a person has to remove the door panel to get to the retainer nuts. You need a midget to get into the trunk likewise to remove the retainer nuts also.
There's a Mint one in my area, the elderly gentleman wants to let it go, it has low mileage, but those cars aren't worth much... I'm still debating...
