I was in Nepal Oct 2013. I also saw this book while at Sanctuary Lodge during our trek. Our mountain guide had done this 3 times. Simply amazing. The hooded jacket is so thick the bees cant go through it and its totally waterproof. I recommend a visit to Nepal and its villages to everyone
I have seen this area though iam from Dhading district but iam from near Gorkha, i have the Book of this Honey Hunter of Nepal i love it. Gurung people are very Brave so they were hired as the Gourkha shoulders. Great tradition but dangerous Take care Sita Gurung.
Eric Valli of Nat Geo: You deal with such great heights. Do some people fall at times? Bahadur Gurung: Yes. Some people fall when their life is over! What a Philosophy to live by! A classic example of causation running the other way around.
You cannot use a simple box to keep these bees. The bees shown are Apis Dorsata and are not cavity dwellers. They will not stay in a box. They nest in the open and are migratory. Cavity dwelling bees are Apis Mellifera, Melipona, Cerana, Unicolor and others. Dorsata is fairly unique in it's behaviors.
Eric van must be credited to bring the Honey Hunters of Nepal to the world. Really amazing. Is the honey hunter still alive?Did the real honey hunter get some money frm the Eric van who may have made money by selling the vid.
kaythapa56 why should he give money to honey hunters - He already paid to Nepal government for visiting Nepal in port of entry - He made videos what when Honey hunters were doing on process # we should be thankful to his for making videos and let the world knows about Nepal and this way of life - that’s why How tourism will flow up in Nepal
I wonder if that ladder is CSA approved ( Canada Safety Association) You can't shake those guys in the yellow hats. Maybe they were paid off in honey ???
A hard life. But one that it measured not by minutes or hours, but by seasons of collection. Perception colors all and dictates our actions within each of our lives.

I think it would be much more simple to take a queen and some workers to a beehive near home. Like some other people do.
The bees that feeds on wild herbs makes wild honey which has many medicinal values. It is not the same with the honey made in the village.

no safety harness and no certificate for the ladder
And I don't think that honey fits the health code. Send in the lawyers!
