Kamara is a big loss for me, especially since there are remaining questions about who will partner Rodon if Struijk is injured at some point (and Ampadu moves back into defence). Kamara was tidy in midfield. Rarely lost the ball, even if he wasn't someone to break the lines. He was notably more physical than Gruev, who is obviously a classy player in his own right. At best, Kamara to Rothwell feels like a sideways move.
Absolutely a big loss. The guy is extremely underrated...exemplified by the fellas comments on him. He is levels above Gruev.
Don't forget Aaronson. He might surprise us. Then again he might not....
Far better in what metric? He’s poor defensively & came unstuck whenever a team sat back as he can’t progress with the ball at his feet
I want to add: losing Kamara is not the end of the world either. It's just not the type of move I would have expected. In terms of outgoings I would have expected selling 1-2 of the 'high value' players, so perhaps one of Summerville, Gnonto and Rutter on top of Archie. But the rest of the squad really ought to stay the same given how close we were. I know we lacked goals from midfield, but our main problem last season was the bad start due to an unsettled squad. To me, I am surprised they are tinkering around this much with the likes of Rothwell. If there aren't more central midfield signings, there will be quite a bit of pressure on him to make a difference... And truth be told whilst I am sure he is solid, I don't think he is necessarily going to lift us to new heights either.
For me the real interesting prospect is Aaronson. I genuinely think he has the potential to be a very useful player in the Championship. He has quality on the ball in the pocket. If Farke can work some magic, I think he could make a difference.
@@jackhinchliff7247 Poor defensively? What are you watching? If you don't see the difference in overall quality from Kamara to Gruev I don't know what to tell ya. The Kamara hate is hilarious...and it kind of reminds me of the clowns that bashed Tyler Adams on his way out.

I reckon we have a full squad including a decent player and a decent replacement in every position except full back and right centre-back. We still lack the sort of attacking, goal-scoring midfielder that we failed to sign last summer. If Summerville and/or Gnonto leaves, then maybe Rutter moves to the left and they bring in an attacking centre midfield. Gruev and Ampadu as a midfield two obviously looks a bit defensive, but that might give full backs more license to operate further forward which could work. Point being, I don't think that the squad looks very depleted at this point just needs a bit more defensive cover.

I wasn't happy with the Kamara loss, but just listening to the guys trying to find the positives from him this season made me think again.
I'll remember kamara as the player that was allergic to shooting

Almost doubled the money for him good player yes but you can see farke wants more goals from midfield hence why we’ve signed rothwell i just hope the club has a busy 2 weeks we really do need additions

I thought Kamara was really good for us last year but I think the season was about 10 games too many for him.
We seem to be unprepared yet again. Bringing in players late isn't ideal. Always better to have players in before preseason. We may not learn from last ssn, players not ready cost us promotion.

Was there ever a bid placed for Gruev? I heard rumors about interest from Dortmund, but he seemed to be more of a contingency than a real priority for them to sign.
@@dau1024 I don't think so no way on the back of what he did for us anyone will be looking at him especially Dortmund id rather see him go than Kamara though
@@blazedray9903 Yeah, I agree with you there. I think the club would have preferred to sell Gruev if we got offers for both. Clearly Rennes thought Kamara was the better of the two as well.

How have you lads managed to have a whole conversation about midfield and failed to mention Ampadu? Camara won't be missed as much as you make out because Ampadu will move to midfield with Gruev.

Why do we need nine more players signed by the first game of the season? The only starters we sold from last season's finals so far have been Kamara and Gray, right? Rothwell comes in for Kamara, sign Bogle or another right back in for Gray and we have a very similar starting 11 to the one we put out against Norwich/Southampton.
Squad depth needs to be addressed, and any further outgoings will need replacing as well... but it's imperative that we make signings that truly move the needle, even if we have to wait for them. What you are describing sounds like panic, and that's the one thing I hope Hammond/49ers won't do. Signing players for the sake of it is not the answer we need the right players
