These folks were lucky. My boyfriend and I were in an argument and he yelled, "we might as well get f****n' married, we fight like a married a couple." I was p'od so I shouted back, "we might as well." To which he responded, "then we'll get f****n' married." I yelled "Fine! Then that's what we'll do." And I stormed out of the room slamming the door behind me. We never discussed the argument. And neither one of us would back down from our bluff. Next thing I know, we actually got married. Thirty years, three kids, and eight grandkids later, we are still together and surprisingly in love. Hahaha But what I wouldn't do for an actual proposal or big wedding. I'd take any one of those goofy proposals.

When my hubby proposed, he was a shy engineer 40-year-old bachelor. Everyone thought he'd never get married. After dating seriously for over a year, he signed the loan papers for a house. That same night, on the drive back to his place, he nervously took a long time to continue on from the stop sign. Finally he cleared his throat and asked, "Would you live in the house with me - after we get married?" I quite happily said "Yes!" And here we are . . 33 years later, still laughing and loving together.

During WWII, my grandfather, a dirt poor Tennessee farm boy turned Army Air Corp ferry command pilot, met my grandmother. He proposed to her with a ring made of barbed wire from his farm. He de-rusted the metal and polished it to a shine, then polished and soldered a single stainless steel ball bearing to the wire. He used a small amount of clear coat from the air base he flew out of to keep it from rusting again and on the next leave he proposed. She wore it until she died almost 70 years later, still married to my grandfather. When he had more money later in life, he bought her a proper ring with a diamond, but she never took off the barbed wire ring, just moved it to her right hand instead.

If you haven't discussed marriage with your partner and know you're on the same page, don't do a public proposal. Not only can it be embarrassing but you're putting the other person on the spot if they weren't expecting it and they can feel pressure to say yes, unfortunately some people use that as a manipulation tactic. WHEN the proposal happens should be the surprise.

I can't stand public proposals in general, and glad my husband is not the type of guy to try to do that. I hate when I'm the center of attention, but also I'm just uncomftorable when people decide to do this stuff publicly. Make it a special moment between the two of you, why get a bunch of strangers involved?? I just don't get the appeal at all...

My friend wanted to know where was a good place to propose and what kind of ring do yiu think ahe would like? I figured it out pretty quickly that this was all for me . So long story short I picked out my own ring, my own proposal site and date (I also wore the ring for like 3 days before he proposed because he couldnt wait to show me) I love him alot hes the best, he wanted to make sure that everything was perfect for me, and it was.

So he nervously scrambled some really sweet things together and when he was asking and opened the ring box, the ring fell out! It bounced several time before jumping into a bush and after we laughed our faces off, he reset himself, then formally proposed. A lot of trauma could be avoided if people only do marriage proposals when everything is thought out and the answer is *guaranteed* to be yes. Like that thumbnail, so many people have said it before, but don't do some big, grand display if there's even a 0.6% chance of getting a no. Don't coerce your partner with a flashy display and force them to say yes in public to avoid embarrassment. Have more respect than that.

Although we all still laugh about the 25th anniversary. Sis and I were just done with waiting for food to cook in the microwave (popcorn is not supposed to take six minutes!) So… we bought them a new microwave. It’s taken all this time to retrain Dad on how fast a microwave heats things up!

I had a guy put a ring in his glove box. Said open the glove box I found it was nice one too. Felt a bit bad BC he didn't even take me for dinner or anything but I said yes. Then a month later found him at the bar with the waitress. Took the ring to pawn shop and sold it for $30 lol
Ok maybe this should go under the petty videos 🤣🤭

My husband proposed at a State Park that was by my parent's house. It was the same park we visited when we first started hanging out, took pictures for our six month anniversary which we were all dressed up for, and he asked in the same spot we took those pictures. ☺️❤️ It was during the Fall so the trees were full of color which reflected off the lake. We already talked about it but I just didn't know when or where. I was definitely surprised!

My marriage proposal also went wrong. At the time we had been dating for almost 7 years and living together for 2. I was expecting him to propose me during Christmas because he was trying to get the size of my fingers using a string 😂😂 Christmas went by, then Valentines Day.. and nothing. During Easter I was so frustrated that I yelled at him and cried. I wanted to break up. Then he showed me the ring and asked the question. I was at the same time happy and really furious. I wanted to smacked him with this ring and at the same time put it on my finger. When I finally calmed down I said yes. But his "string metod" sucked. He bought me ring in the size 24 (EU) while I have 14 😉 so we had to change it. But now we are 5 years married, have a wonderful 4 yo daughter and are still very happy together, so f*ck the proposal. What matters is love. Peace✌️

You obviously never been in a such a long relationship. You have no idea how I felt during the previous years when the whole family and friends were asking constantly when we will get married. And although I was expecting it I still wasn't sure 100%. He started the thing with the string in November and proposed me in April next year. Seriously at that point I was convinced that I only imagined everything.

My proposal was just so weird and I would change it. It was May 1st last year, and I was getting drunk playing a video game with my partner. I was so nervous because I realized I wasn't cisgendered and I knew I had to tell him, hence the drinking. When I finally asked him if he was fine with me having gender dysphoria and not being a woman, he absolutely accepted me and, though he didn't understand it personally since he doesn't go through that stuff, he wanted me to explain it as best I could so he can help support me as much as possible. I was just so overwhelmed with emotion I popped the question, he said yes, and now we're engaged, live together in my house and have a puppy named Ashwind.

Totally agree. I don't understand why people (usually women) drag/shame their partner in public about not having proposed. It's disrespectful to your relationship not to mention patriarchal and heteronormative - if you want to marry someone, ask them. If you don't, then you don't get to complain about waiting for them to. It's the whole "why hasn't he called me?" on a much more obnoxious scale.

I kinda of already proposed to my boyfriend 4 years before we were actually officially a couple. We went to a wedding and he catched the bride's garter (I'm trusting google translate for this last word, however it's the male equivalent of catching the bouquet). He texted me "well, seems like I have to get married soon", and I replied "ok then, I'll marry you". Now we have been living together for two years, we know we want to get married as soon as I get a job, but honestly I don't know if I should expect a proposal lol
