- Nadia Haggar's profile of the novelist for BBC2's Bookmark, first transmitted 3 October 1991 and marking his death four months earlier. This recording is of the 8 April 2004 repeat on BBC Four.
Angus Wilson remains one of the very greatest English novelists of the last century. The loathsome Martin Amis, a mere pipsqueak in comparison.
Read Margret Drabble biography and apart from being a slog to read all 670 pages but a view put forward about this documentary being more about the presenter than A W is very apt.
thanks for this. wish i could find a copy of "hemlock and after."
Read Hemlock...Philip Larkin said he wasn't a natural writer...about to start the short stories....
Wilson was a far, far greater artist than Larkin .
@@stuartwilliams-fw4voI've read most of Wilson's work and find it a bit stiff at times but I do enjoy his subject matter and honest approach to class and breeding...Larkin never entertained the notion of Jill being the start of the angry young men novels and movement poetry as anything other than opinions so I don't think he would disagree with your statement....
Absolutely fascinating
