Saw it when aired. In the early 50's, we were shipped as a family to Okinawa to join the Occipation after the Japanese surrender. Both parents were Army officers. We children were cared for by Okinawan citizens, and came to love them. This episode was formative for me, as was the discovery of the first paperback edition, with photographs, of Hiroshima.
Thanks for sharing your story, @thisbushnell2012.
This was, is, and always shall be one of the best and most important episodes of THE TWILIGHT ZONE for me. I still think it's one of the bravest performances by George Takei (I hope I'm spelling his last name right). I know the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were still very prominent in the public mind then, and still is today, but the lesson this episode taught should never be forgotten.
There's no way we could top what you said!
