Fantastic fly! I finally got to fish a couple of your patterns. Very productive. I took them home and cleaned the fish slime off and they are ready for the next trip. They are very durable flies too. It was a very unexpected pleasure. Don't need to tie anymore yet. All the best, Sean

Thank you Sean, that's good to hear. Hopefully they'll catch next time too. All the best, Simon

Very nice Simon, good suggestion with the CDC. There are many colors this could be made in to match any caddis. Different sizes as well. I have never cut the hair first because of the characteristic slant to the head. I like yours better and intend to try it. All the best, Sean

+Sean Mooney Thank you very much Sean, yes this is yet one of these patterns that can be tied in a lot of different colors and sizes. I really like to have some versatility in my flies. The technique with the hair I just learned a few months ago, don't remember where, but gives a very nice neat head with minimum effort. All the best, Simon

Hi Simon, great tutorial, I learned a few things on technique and materials. Now I know what the iris thread is, great way to add an egg sack (or hot spot) using the same technique as a hopper body but on a smaller scale. I've used a dubbing ball for a sac, it helps split the tails also on mayflies. Lots of possibilities with that technique you showed! Great dubbings too and wing technique. That hook must have a neatly closed eye, do you ever have that skinny thread slip inside the eye? That happened a lot to me in the past when I started tying.
Thanks Simon, I'm glad this one caught my eye, well done my friend 👍😎

Hi Joe, thank you very much. The technique works well for small midge or caddis bodies as well. Usually, I use the dubbing ball technique as well. But always nice to try out something new. With thread as this as this one it happens quite a lot. What I usually do is to build up the material rihlght up to the eye to fill the small gap. Tight lines 😊

Simon, I have a question. Do you have any difficulty manipulating the knob to loosen and tighten the jaws of you vise to adjust it to hold hooks? I seem to have a difficult time partially because it is on the other side of the vise. I really think these were designed for left handed tiers. All my other vises have the adjustment on the front side. Is Jean Petitjean left handed?
Just asking, I am thinking of taking it to the machine shop and have the knob replaced with something easier to grab and turn. All the best, Sean

I am quite used to it by now but at first it was quite difficult to turn also because of the size of the knob. Yes Marc Petitjean is left handed, that maybe explains it.
