Same here, started at 19, now 51. Luckily for me, our newbies generally stop by the third week of January! It’s a shame they don’t give it a proper go.
Can you please do more gym etiquette videos?? It would really help the community. A lot of folks do things just because they always have and don’t understand until it’s super common knowledge to do so differently
As a foreign national working and living in Osaka, Japan, I always get "amazed and surprised" looks from local Japanese gym goers when I clean and prep the weight machine after I finish using it. Either they don't expect this behavior from foreigners, or they are pleased to see the equipment are maintained by gym community.
Excellent. As a bit of a newb, since I can't lift as much as most folks at the gym, I really hate having to disturb someone else's workout to help me remove plates that a previous user left. I do ask and the guys are always gracious and help out, but that shouldn't be needed.
You're only competing with yesterday's version of yourself. I started lifting 5kg. Now I'm on 10 to 20 kg. Depending on my goal for the day. Use things like creatine, protein powder and l-glutamine. Eat good foods. MACRO CHEAT SHEETS, are your friend.
@ishtiyaqhussain8266 yeah it's definitely rare. I'd say i don't know how to rank irritation more, but not unloading is definitely first. After that, it just comes down to lazy ass racking. 45 on the 25. 10s in middle of 25. Or hell, let's not even get into the dumbell.
I can't believe that you even have to explain this. Would be great if you can make videos on the following. 1. How to put your shopping trolley back. 2. How to stop and wait at a red light. 3. How to throw your rubbish in a bin. 4. How to wait in line. 5. How and where to park your car.
6. Not to throw non-recyclables in the recycling bin 7. Exit the highway from the lane of traffic closest to the ramp 8. Wipe off the toilet seat when you flush
There are 2 types of people. Those who put the shopping trolley back and those who don't. See, at least with this there is nuance with the plates. There is no nuance with the shopping trolley. You don't leave it in the parking lot. You don't leave it between cars. Put the damn thing back.
Also gym etiquette: if a machine seems broken or that it isn’t functioning properly and it doesn’t have a sign, first don’t use it and let a staff know immediately so they can check it so no one else would potentially hurt themselves
The video that people at the gym i go to should watch. When I start using the Smith machine.. I can not stress the amount of time my OCD goes crazy when people don't re-rack the weights in the right order or keep them on the bar bell. I hope people watch this video. Anyway, everyone, have a good holiday. Keep lifting!
I want to add a thing to the cleaning list. Don’t forget to clean of the handles. It helps slow the spread of bacteria and possible viruses. Merry Christmas to all goers and may your lifts be clean.
One thing that really grinds my gears is people who misplace the plates and overstack them, the latter being a major injury hazard. I have come to the conclusion that they do so out of indifference, not ignorance.
I didn't even know there is an order. Just write the weight wouldn't hurt. It's even worse when there plenty of machines that all use the same weights.
I was trained by my good friend who was a champion woman’s dead lifter. The first thing she taught me was gym etiquette even though we trained in her basement. She then trained me into the best shape of my life at 50. Respect for yourself the equipment and others were one of her main lessons she taught me and I agreed 💯 and benefited from that. Thank Wendy ❤️. Joey this is why I support your channel 👍❤️🇨🇦
As someone who is very particular about having weights re-racked, I hate seeing 45lb plates on the top rack while smaller ones are placed on the bottom. It’s as if someone is passive aggressively saying, “I don’t want to put weights back and I’m going to do a bad job doing it.”
Sure. That's how I imply people should remove them "are you done? Because there are still weights" 😄 Weights must be remove so all kind of people can use machine, not just bro and ego lifter. People sign a f-contract where they commit to do so.
I imagine gyms are spacious enough for it almost never be an issue (that and people will just do everything they can to not be waiting in a line), but if you find yourself on a machine and a line starts forming it's probably best to not ghost the machine either. It's great that you properly cleaned up after yourself, but by slipping away unnoticed it opens up a situation where someone you knew was respectfully waiting on you to finish could get jumped in line by an opportunist.
I all my gym years the two rarest things for people to do are: First; reracking the weights and second; clean the machines after using it. I've been doing those two steps since my trainee days in 2017, which were the main two things to do on a gym. But nowadays? No one does it, and if you do it, you are a perceived by others as an odd fellow or a kind person. It's good to see Joey spread those core values as well. Keep on the good work man.
I don't go to any gyms, but I still thoroughly enjoy your videos and the message you promote. Also, can I say, I absolutely love your gorgeous smile at the end of some of the vids. Have a great Christmas and New Year. 💋
Great vid! As a shortie sometimes I can't be bothered taking 100+ kg of plates off the machines just to adjust the height then put half of them back on I'm exhausted before my actual workout begins. Sucks being so short that I can't unlock the safeties without tiptoeing, I'm always grateful when people take most of the plates off or don't leave the bars (with plates on!) at the absolute top of the squat rack.
Tbh i never thought about that. Just to set the bar far away so noone hit it (or tumble) by accident. Now i will think again. Thank you for the feedback.
YES ! Every member of my athletics club needs to see this video. The number of times I show up at our tiny gym and the limited floor space is littered with plates is infuriating! There are notices everywhere, but nobody seems to be able to read. Sometimes, it's a sufficient workout for me to put other people's plates back on the racks ! Please be considerate. It's OUR gym not just yours. Nice hat Joey. All the best for Christmas from the UK.
Joey, THANK YOU for posting this video...there are several "seasoned gym rats" that still haven't learned to "wrack your weights, clean the equipment" after finishing their sets. Some people, you know exactly what body part(s) they worked by the number of machines with weights left on them...I've even seen "fixed" barbells left under the dumbbell wrack, have seen dumbbells left by machines and benches. It's pretty pathetic how some will leave equipment and then not even wipe the bench or machine down after use.
Merry Christmas to you and all the good people that follows you, youre one of the best fitness guy on earth, if not the best, I discover you a few years ago and nobody explain or show things so clearly and straight, and lot of common sense, I salute you Joey from Malaga, Spain PD I have two kids, my 12 years boy and 15 yrs girl, and tell em to follow you as a number one priority
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO much for this! I think I broke the like button from pressing it too hard and too many times. Now...if we could just get EVERY gym to make each attendee watch it!
I thought for sure you were going to do some kind of comedy skit by attacking the first person that walked in front of your camera during filming. I was waiting for it all the way to the end. lol
I get it for the shorter people…but in my own gym I always put the 45’s closest to chest level. Love what you’re doing for the gym culture bro. Keep it up.
I would never seek to criticise you, Joey, as you have certainly helped to put a new policy forward at my gym for limiting sessions when cams are allowed but..... the part of the equipment you NEED to clean is where your hands go. Hands are a potential vector for viruses, particularly cold and 'flu and norovirus, whereas 'cleaning' the seat or back is a waste of cleaning product. A good habit is to spray the handle liberally, allow to stand for 2 minutes then wipe off. If you're worried about the product dripping down, simply hold the cloth beneath. Anything less is less than useless.
Wow, I've been in the gym for 20 plus years an what my man showed at the end is priceless😎 "clean the machines when your done" very nasty running into someone else's sweat😝
I see this at the gym i go, either they bounce from equipment to equipment, not even making an attempt to clean what they use. Or using a garbeage can as a spitoon, not only it's disgusting. But disrespectful to the cleaning staff trying to make the gym safe. There has been so much of that ever since COVID hit, and it's a brother/sister hood community. It doesn't matter what age you are, or fitness level your in. Proper gym etiquette is essential to the environment your in, or occupation you have.
I am never concerned about the transfer of biohazards from a seat or back cushion because I have two layers of clothing in between, but the handles/bar are a different thing.
Nothing drives more nuts then people that mix the weights up when putting them away. 25 lb plates don't belong mixed in with 45 lbs plates. Love the hat, Merry Christmas to all.
As someone who has belonged to gyms since I was a teenager (now I am much, much older!), I always look forward to the end of February.
Yes, the gym is packed with all the New Year's resolution people.
😂
Luckily my gym thins out by the beginning of Feb. Then it’s back to the regulars.
Man the gym has been not as busy from November to Dec it’s been so nice. I’m dreading Jan
Same here, started at 19, now 51.
Luckily for me, our newbies generally stop by the third week of January! It’s a shame they don’t give it a proper go.
We need a whole series of gym etiquette
It’s international etiquette 😅
the Swolliquette :)
Yes please
Can you please do more gym etiquette videos?? It would really help the community. A lot of folks do things just because they always have and don’t understand until it’s super common knowledge to do so differently
Yeah a video on people not working out right infront of the weights and people working out in walk ways would be nice. Common sense isn't common
Santa hat Joey is my favorite version of Joey
As a foreign national working and living in Osaka, Japan, I always get "amazed and surprised" looks from local Japanese gym goers when I clean and prep the weight machine after I finish using it. Don't compare yourself to others. That's the fastest way to kill your motivation. Compare yourself to what you were able to lift yesterday.
Re racking weights is so rare in my gym that I'd just be happy for them to be returned even if its not in the correct place.
I love it when they stick a ten in between several 45lb plates
To not re-rack is to have the "not my job" mindset. At the root of it is just a selfish indifferent attitude. Welcome to earth
I do my best to put them away, but as a small woman it sucks when there is 5 45’s on the machine. I literally don’t use machines sometimes bc of that.
@joce_vlogs16 and it shouldn't be like that. You'd get your workout by simply removing them ☺️
I can't believe that you even have to explain this. Would be great if you can make videos on the following.
1. How to put your shopping trolley back.
2. How to stop and wait at a red light.
3. How to throw your rubbish in a bin.

See, at least with this there is nuance with the plates. There is no nuance with the shopping trolley. You don't leave it in the parking lot. You don't leave it between cars. Put the damn thing back.
Also stop people from rat running across a parking lot like a lazy person
"Shopping trolley" "rubbish" EU spotted! Opinion rejected!
@virno69420 Australian 🤫
Also gym etiquette: if a machine seems broken or that it isn’t functioning properly and it doesn’t have a sign, first don’t use it and let a staff know immediately so they can check it so no one else would potentially hurt themselves
Or option B: Stand in a corner and creepily watch people get hurt on that machine.
The video that people at the gym i go to should watch. When I start using the Smith machine.. I can not stress the amount of time my OCD goes crazy when people don't re-rack the weights in the right order or keep them on the bar bell. I hope people watch this video. A lot of gym “Vets” need this as well.
🎯🎯🎯
I want to add a thing to the cleaning list. Don’t forget to clean of the handles. It helps slow the spread of bacteria and possible viruses.

This is why we love this man.Gym POSITIVITY.
I don't like any weight on the machine. Confuses me. Then I'm asking people around me if they seen anyone on the machine in a while lol
Yup, done that.
I was trained by my good friend who was a champion woman’s dead lifter. The first thing she taught me was gym etiquette even though we trained in her basement. It is best to remove all the weight from the machine, that way people know it is available.
Sure. That's how I imply people should remove them "are you done? Because there are still weights" 😄
Weights must be remove so all kind of people can use machine, not just bro and ego lifter.
People sign a f-contract where they commit to do so.
Depends on the gym

Good instructional vid! It never hurts to remind everyone to be mindful of the equipment, and of the next person to use it.
I don't go to any gyms, but I still thoroughly enjoy your videos and the message you promote. Also, can I say, I absolutely love your gorgeous smile at the end of some of the vids. Have a great Christmas and New Year. 💋

Spot on Joey.
All the best to you and yours !
Pun intended on spot 😅😊
@@stormlakebobcat9058 mmmm....possibly.
Let's put it on the rack and see who picks it up.
Great reminders! I have to focus on actually getting to the gym 😂😂
Its the simple things that some people have the hardest time with.
Yes! Please do not DOUSE the equipment.
@CambriaCandiceMaria a man at my gym puts so much spray on the towel, it leaks from spray destination to the equipment.
My gym provides pre-moistened wipes. Impossible to douse equipment with them.
Thanks. And please also disinfect the handles or wherever your hands touch the machine.
That's has the most bacteria. Just remember to not touch your face. You never know when the next gain of function trials begins.
The sad part is that the people who don't need to hear this will, and the people who do need to hear this will not.
and there's people who will hear, but will not give a crap
thumbs up for swolls hat everyone!!! Merry Christmas to all!!
I’ve seen some funny signs at gyms over the years but my favorite one was your mommy isn’t here to put your weights back
YES ! Every member of my athletics club needs to see this video. The number of times I show up at our tiny gym and the limited floor space is littered with plates is infuriating! Reracking weights is such a rarity, I actually verbally thank people who do it.
And i ask people if they're done with the machine, because there are still weights on it.
Being a long time bro probably help 😄
This is so useful👍
Because many of this young generation doesnt have so called common sense
im lowkey thinking of laying low for the month of january cause of how packed its gonna be with motivationless new years resolution people
Thank you for all the hard work you put in your videos ! U r my inspiration
Golden Rule works
"... as you would have
done unto you" but many
beginners arent sure what
they would want but learn
You seem like a genuinely nice guy. I'm not a gym buff, but you get a sub just for being a decent human being!

Always a steward for the community! Merry Christmas Joey!
Right on, right on 👍🏻
Happy Holidays.
Exactly, well done. Thank you. Merry Christmas. 😊
*MERRY CHRISTMAS JOEY*
Thank you, Joey! I am actually starting my weight loss journey this week. I will keep these in mind!
YES I LOVE THIS JOEY. So many people forget to do these very simple things in the gym and yet they're so important. Thanks 😊 And Happy Christmas ❤
I wish the gym bros I see would model your behavior! Well done and thank you!
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO much for this! I think I broke the like button from pressing it too hard and too many times. Now...if we could just get EVERY gym to make each attendee watch it!
Best tips ever for some gym mates !
LOVE this guy!
Thanks Joey 🙌🏼
Facts💪💯💪
My OCD kicked in on the sloppy rerack, but Joey saved himself with the toe tap at 0:43. Good work!
We need more tutorials like these!
Finally someone promoting good mannerisms.
To you and your family, and to everyone in the comments
Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year 🎄🥳
I thought for sure you were going to do some kind of comedy skit by attacking the first person that walked in front of your camera during filming. I was waiting for it all the way to the end. lol
Thank you and Merry Christmas.
80% of people in my city/country need to watch and learn this video
Thanks bro for the gym etiquette and have a wonderful festive season🫡🎉
you rock Joey
I get it for the shorter people…but in my own gym I always put the 45’s closest to chest level.
Love what you’re doing for the gym culture bro. Keep it up.

Merry Christmas Happy New Year Joey. Love your video. ❤Australia❤
This was a great video, not just for newbies but other selfish people THAT CANT BE AR.SED!!!!!
Awesome and merry Christmas to you and all the best.
Merry Christmas and a great New Year to you as well, Joey!
Wow, I've been in the gym for 20 plus years an what my man showed at the end is priceless😎 "clean the machines when your done" very nasty running into someone else's sweat😝
I'm so glad noöne walked in front of him. 😉😉
Merry Christmas, Joey. 🎄🕯😇 🇺🇸💙
I really need help with weights like exercises and stuff. This was helpful, please do more!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS JOEY! 🎉
Love the hat ❤❤❤. Merry Christmas Joey! ❤❤❤

Thanks man. One final tip: Clean the handles too, not just the pads.
We don't need to worry about the leg machines with you 😂
Preach!!!
I am never concerned about the transfer of biohazards from a seat or back cushion because I have two layers of clothing in between, but the handles/bar are a different thing.
Tbh, most peopIe are more concerned with sweat than contamination.
Ever seen someone cIean a pIate?
Clean the handlebars too.👍
Merry Christmas to you, my man.👍👍 thank you for not saying "happy holidays " !!
You make gym workouts easy
Merry Christmas Joey!!
Australia says Merry Christmas Joey
Nothing drives more nuts then people that mix the weights up when putting them away. 25 lb plates don't belong mixed in with 45 lbs plates. Love the hat, Merry Christmas to all.
Did anyone else expect someone to walk into the middle of his shot?!?!
Don’t forget to wipe down the handles too. I always did that when I went to a commercial gym.
Merry Christmas 🎄 man!
Love the Santa hat!
Hey Joey, I do my work outs at home because I am an introvert. I started boxing again last week and do it every other day.
