Joseph jaquard used punched cards in his loom conceptually... But major success of punched cards was done by herman hollerith in his tabulating machine, which was used by the census bureau of USA to tabulate the American Census in 1890.

Punched cards were firstly used in loom but punched cards were officially adopted in 1890 this is the differece...

1881 is in many academic books...but on wikipedia it is 1804. so Decide according the answers.
