Guitarist "Dimebag" Darrel Abbot was shot on stage in Ohio in 2004. His Brother and drummer Vinney Paul Abbot died of natural causes a year or so ago. Only Phil Anselmo the singer and bassist Rex Brown are still around. They have tried to restart the band with guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante. Zakk is formerly of Black Label Society and Charlie is from Anthrax.
This band is from a town just down the road from me here in north Texas where I lived for about 10 years. Sightings of the band members around town were not unusual. Phil and Vinnie bought beer at a store my wife used to work at. Asked her if she wanted to come to the party, but she said no, because she didn't know who they were. Their guitarist, Dimebag, was one of the all-time greats. Some of their songs are quite heavy, but it's all musically very solid. Hope you check out some more of their stuff.
I would suggest, going back and listening to this again but the album version and not the music video. Not for the Channel but your own listening. The video cuts off the beginning guitar into and FOR ME the contrast makes massive tonal differences
There is a lot to tell about Pantera and the tragical death of Dimebag. But I think there will be fans who can talk better about it in the comments than me. I liked esp. this song a lot.
You need to listen to the whole song. The first two minutes are missing from this video. Those first two minutes set the mood of the song. Never do official videos for metal bands. Do lyric videos, because otherwise they are bastardized.
You literally watch a metal god on guitar. Im so grateful and lucky that i got to see Pantera live years ago at the Ozzfest with both Abbott brothers!!!
If you ever fet around to it you should check out some of Glenn Danzigs work. Albums 2 and 4 are my favorite, but theres a song called "You and Me" (Less than Zero) that he wrote for Roy Orbison to sing. Danzig ended up singing it himself with a different band to match Roys style. Glenn Danzig is known as Evil Elvis and began his career as the frontman of The Misfits in 1977...the same year Elvis died.
Dimebag Darrell (the guitarist in the video) is dead. He was tragically murdered on stage on December 8th 2004 in Columbus, Ohio while he was playing with his new band Damageplan. Pantera had been broke up back in 2003 and after this Dimebag and Vinnie Paul (his brother and also the drummer of Pantera) formed this new band. Now, unfortunately, the both brothers are dead (Vinnie died in 2018 from heart disease) and the only left members of Pantera are Phil Anselmo (the singer) and Rex Brown (the bassist). Since 2022, they both has reunited along with Zakk Wylde (the Ozzy Osbourne's ex-guitarist) and Charlie Benante (the drummer of Anthrax) and touring together as a tribute band for what Pantera was back in the time. P.S: Indeed, Pantera was formed in 1981, but they've became more famous in the 90s when they totally changed their style. They started as a glam metal band but then (from the Cowboys from Hell album - the album of the Cemetery Gates song btw) they became a groove metal band and also one of the biggest metal bands of all time, changing the metal scene forever. I got to set up the opening band for them in 88 at Joe's garage.

Pantera is also a Roman soldier who might be Jesus's father.
This is my favorite band with Alice In Chains 2 greats but both bands have sad sad stories
