Almost all 20th century English composers were great at writing pomp and circumstance music. But nobody did it better than Elgar. If anything will make you yearn for the splendor of the British Empire, these marches are it.
What greater combination with the victory parade 1945 and patriotic marches. As a school boy spectator on that unforgetable occasion I feel quite moved.
UA-cam places ads in the middle of classical music performances - what a bunch of philistines. UA-cam totally destroys it for me. To commercialise inspired musical creations is so crass and so very American.
Do you know what Sir Edward Elgar has in common with the Jackson brothers?(formerly the Jackson 5).. they were all big fans of Wolverhampton Wanderers football team
I did not know that Elgar liked football, but more surprising than that is that any American likes it (I refer to what in the United States they call soccer, not that delicacy of American football).
I see that someone has to blame the Americans for something AGAIN. I'm an Englishman married to an American and this is YET AGAIN another example of Xenophobia that some English are SO good at !

I note the Whitehall theatre was featuring Reluctant Heroes; a remarkable coincidence. The year was 1946.
A continuing privilege was my contact with work colleagues who remained modest when discussing their war experiences.@Gary Garretson
Absolutely incredible. The world must have been quite a different place back then.
Almost primitive by today's standards. Kind regards.

Esse início é um clássico dos clássicos.
I can't help but recall snippets of Fantasia 2000 with Daisy and Donald Duck on board Noah's ark! Best childhood memory there!

Loud, proud and patriotic. Something missing from most 21st century music

NO SOY AMANTE DE ELGAR PERO ESTAS MARCHAS SON GRANDIOSAS.
To answer Rique: someone on here commented that ads in the middle of Pomp and Circumstance is 'So American' and I think that is completely unfair.

Can anyone tell what this photo is?
Seems like a photo of armed forces marching through Charing Cross London after the 1st World War
The uniforms rather look WW2. I think it is from the WW2 victory parade in London on June 8th 1946
