Haider Mehdi sahib I am almost the same age as you. I have not mentioned this before that although I have not served in the army myself but am the son of an army officer (corps of engineers) who knew your illustrious father and used to talk to us children about him. (My father's commission was in 1944 and he too served in Burma)
It is a matter of pride for me to be listener to you and to know that our army had officers like you and Col Akbar Hasnain who not only have a deep knowledge of tactics and strategy but think beyond these about the sociology and philosophy of national issues and the role of the military in these.
Deep respect and immense pride in you. You are doing a sterling job and guiding the nation.

My father was Lt Col Tanwir Hasan Bashir, referred to colleagues as 'TH'. He was G1 in the E-in-C branch in tbe GHQ 1964 - 66 and was member of the team which negotiated and finalized the agreement with China for building the KKH. He was appointed the CO of the newly raised 110 Engr Battalion in 1966 - and his battalion constructed the Indus Valley Road as the first stage of KKH.
He told us about Col Ghaffar Mehdi - his role in the founding of the SSG and during the 1965 war.
In the late 1970's and early 80's I regularly read Col Mehdi's articles in Dawn which were educational for me.
Due to circumstances beyond my control I am currently not in a position to support you with anything more than these words but hope that very soon (a few months) will be able to put my money where my mouth is..
Islam and Pakistan are the bedrocks of my existence and it gladdens my heart that I will be able to serve as one of your foot soldiers.
(As for myself, I am a neurosurgeon - previously a consultant in the UK.)

Sir, now the country came to know and first time realised the high level of corruption existing in the Army specifically in Chief and Generals more than politicians.

Fascinating discussion between two intellectuals. I grew up hearing stories from my father about Huzoor Hasnanin Shaheeds exploits.
Col Hasnain and of course Haider show with proof how Pakistan has proven that the business of War is too serious to be left to Generals - giving our generals the power and wealth and combining with a background from which they come has now created a hydra headed monster that is near impossible to control.

This was one of the best programs presented by you so far...Great contribution by Col Akbar son of a great father namely late Brig Hazoor Hasnain who had a distinguished military career, an outstanding SSG officer who participated in both 1965 and 1971 wars and in each was awarded SJ,twice wounded in war..in 1965 war, operating behind the enemy lines he made good his escape along with an Indian jeep into Pakistan. In PMA he won Sword of Honour and Norman Medal for academic excellence. Indeed a great soldier who died with his boots on in an L19 air crash in 1980.

The change needs to start from within the Army. The people don’t have any capacity except support the brave patriotic in the forces
Great to see Col. Akbar on your show. Brings back memories of squash games and rounds of golf. If meritocracy had a place in Pak Army, Akbar should have been a general, instead he left the army because he could not put up with utter nonsense of insecure seniors whose egos got the better of them. I continue to mourn the loss of my love affair with our military.
An eye opener! Something has to be done soon, before we become Burma or North Korea. The window of opportunity is very small now. Wake-up Patriotic Pakistanis!

My late father has worked in all departments since 1947 to 1980! He was the best of the best. General jalani had stopped him all the way . But he takes the whole history of Pakistan with him his works are reminded in the ISI records as reports. My father's only love was just Pakistan and Pakistanis , Pakistan miss him so we as a family of him. All ways. My father told us A good management is to accept the wrong doing as soon as possible and make it correct. And pay the cost also. From London. Alhumduillah Alhumduillah Alhumduillah insha'Allah. .
