The Lions lost that SF game because of an INT that bounced off a Lions helmet and because of Lions WRs dropping catches. It had NOTHING to do with DC's calls.
That's the narrative they love. It will cost them a game in the playoffs!!!! Old-time Lions fans are THRILLED we finally have an aggressive, risk-taking coach. All we've ever had are those old-school, uncreative coaches who make the conservative calls every time, making us sit there and watch the game slip away because they wouldn't play to win. This team is 12-1, for god's sake! There's a reason for that. The Lions got two TDs and won the clock on 4th downs. If they don't do that, they lose. And that's exactly the kind of loss Lions fans had to endure for decades. Not anymore. If it costs us something at some point, so be it. I'm not going to complain about it.
DC was very aggressive on 4th downs last night because he wanted to win or lose with offense because 90 % of our starters on D is on IR . He planned for this aggression all week in practice. The players didn’t need to look at sideline on 4th down to see if we were going we already knew. That’s why we went hurry up on 4th and goal
I am a Packer fan and the better team won tonight. Detroit ran 76 plays and the Packers ran 45 plays. The Packers also couldn’t generate any pass rush and Detroit’s defense was in Love’s face all night with backup players. Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator of the Lions, called a great game and was one step ahead of the Packer’s new defensive coordinator.
Yeah, that's about the size of it. Not disappointed in my Packer's, it was a good game. Lions were just a bit better tonight. I'll never for the life of me understand why we shy away from the run game though. Especially after the way Jacobs has been playing these past two weeks.
30 play difference and only win by 3 says alot about both teams Gary is a menace he always makes it difficult for Goff I truly don’t want to see them a third time
Coaching is finally getting better in "this" league! The Packers only just got better! I'm sorry you feel sad today, you guys will be fine! Vikings tattooed fan. ❤❤❤
As a Lions fan who has watched every game this year I can honestly say Dan Campbell is agressive in calling games, but has also toned down the aggression this year. He has made smarter decisions, including last night. That was a coach that knew that he had basically no defense in the second half and that Green Bay's defense, outside of a single 4th down stop had not done much all night. It is also a gamble to kick the field goal and then go ask our back-up laden defense to go stop a red hot Jordan Love and Green Bay offense. Yes it gave me a heart attack to watch that play and watch Jared Goff stumble but we got the pick up and then the game was truly over at that point. Even if they hadn't gotten the field goal you still are in a similar position where you gotta count on the defense to make a stop so I'd rather put that pressure on the offense that has shown all year to be one of the best. Dan kicks the field goal 100 of 100 times if the defense was healthy.
Campbell is a moron. Your defense wasn’t playing bad at all, GB struggled to move the ball and scored on short fields, going for it at your on 31 is just stupid, you almost guarantee points to your opponent if you don’t get it. Also the last 4th down was moronic because there wasn’t much time left and GB had already burned all their timeouts, so it’s highly unlikely they can get in FG range, and if you don’t get it, GB is in a good position to get a FG and win it. I don’t care what woo woo rah rah Campbell bullsh!t you want to wrap it up in, those were just stupid decisions and only luck saved you, if Goff trips and can’t make the hand off or fumbles you likely lose.
Ziggy - The Packers actually took the lead early in the 3rd Quarter 21-17. I believe that they also led at one point 28-24? The Packers were neck and neck with the Lions in the second half. I'm amazed at how well coached and ready to attack that defense for the Lions played. I'm okay with what the Packers defense did. The Lions offense wasn't hurt and the Packers stopped him on a 4th and 1 that led to a Packers TD AND also got an INT ALSO leading to a Packers TD. What really cost the Packers was how their offense played against the beat up Lions D. A dropped pass by Reed in the first half led to a failed drive. A fumble CAUSED by the Lions defender punching the ball out of Watson's arm really hurt. The Lions D was aggressive and tough and did enough to win against the Packers. I think that the Lions wanted that game MORE than the Packers. The coaches of the Lions had them fired up for the game and the Packers' sloppy play is maybe a lack of the Packers coaching properly correcting these issues. I want to see the Packers play this team again in January/February. While I believe that the Lions are CURRENTLY the better team, I don't believe that the Packers are far behind them. If they play again, I can see a different result. Whether Blue Sky luck will prevail, or the Packers overtake the Lions OR even if the Lions just have a stinker at the worst moment, the Packers' odds aren't negligible.
The lions were down 13 starters on defense and lost McNeil and Branch during the game. Really you want to face Detroit when they are healthy?? Good luck with that....
@@searlesje5437they’re just setting themselves for a catastrophe meltdown during the playoffs and I’ll feel bad for the older fans since it’ll be yet another heartbreak. The rest of em on the social medias… it’ll be hilarious to see their reactions

DC's aggressiveness is usually in line with how analytics models say you should play football. You should go for it on 4th and 5 almost anywhere on the field in an average situation. Sometimes he does weird things like the fake punt in the Vikings game that make zero sense. But as a Vikings fan, I wish KOC would be that aggressive.
That isn't aggressiveness, it's stupidity. He doesn't do anything, so that's all he brings to your poverty franchise. He will never win a Superbowl because of it. Enjoy your division champion banner, it's all you'll ever have. 😉
@@isaiahplace2761 and you don't make it to that "biggest game of the year" in the first place without the aggressiveness. I personally don't blame Dan at all for the championship game. Players gotta make the plays and the plays were there and open. It was a fumble and dropped passes that lost them that game.
As a Lions fan, I ride with Dan Campbell going for it all the time at. At this point I’ve seen it work out in our favor too many times to see it as any type of negative. Yes, there are times (like the 4&1 from our 30 tonight) where we don’t get it and I don’t like it, but good outweighs the bad by a mile.
@@paulmayer8654 a wide reciever is allowed to run in a straight line. If a linebacker isnt paying attention and runs straight into him it isnt a penalty on the wideout. If anything it should be a penalty on the defense.
Man IDC what no one says Lions got away with a lot of penalties. That wasn't a illegal block on Watson, they hit Love in the head no call,McKinney gets his helmet knocked off, clear as day holding call. Packers also have important guys out as well why do we keep ignoring it Doubs, E.Cooper, Jaire23,etc
He's not crying he's speaking the truth. Green Bay is the better team. The Lions needed the refs. Seems to me like Vegas got the final word in this game. But it's fine we'll see you again in the playoffs if you're not one and done
But it’s different for a qb kneel? How many times have you seen a running back fall down in the backfield and not get up cause the plays over that’s some bs not to mention the PI on Watson was ridiculous GG better hope we don’t meet yall in the playoffs
Paul I like the show, but as a Lions fan you really don't understand how Campbell coaches. Our defense was depleted last night, that's why Campbell put it on the offense. He was not going to give the Packers the ball back at the end of the game. When he went for it from their own 29 yard line it was middle of the 3rd period. The Lions offense is unstoppable and Campbell knew it. He knew his offense would come through in the end.
It was like 35 seconds left and packers had no timeout. Risking not going ahead at all to avoid that situation was not really sensible imo. But hey, it worked.
Hitting Jordan Love in the face on 3rd down. No call. Knocking McKinney’s helmet off on 3rd and goal. No call. OPI On Watson to take 4 points off the board for GB On a GB TD. But Not ARSB on the pivotal play with a much more egregious push… That was 17 points. Literally on the next plays after all of these. Go look at the screen shots. They’re out there. And as bad as Detroit’s injuries were on the front 7, by halfway through the 3rd, GBs in the secondary were just as bad. Jaire, Cooper, Williams, Bullard, Ballantine.. I mean they were playing practice squad guys in 4/6 spots in Dime. But… the Lions won. Kudos. The Packers now have nothing to play for for a month. Not scared of them though. Looking forward to the rematch and I think we’ll get em next time in January. 😊GPG.
Bro the Lions have 16 defenders out this game and truly haven't been full strength since the Dallas game. Your Packers got got this season. And when it comes to the penalties I just say what Packers and other NFL fans said to Lions for years "You should play well enough that the refs don't matter"
Lions spotted you 14 points That's great. Don't be scared. But this was your best chance. "Next time", if it happens, Lions should have most of their Defense back and it will still be in Detroit. I don't think GB stands a chance.
@@xguy9999 Yeah, your it showed from your fans. Anytime a packer player got hurt you guys cheered. You are a poverty franchise and will never win a superbowl :)
Dan didn't cost the game in NFCCG. That was an unfortunate bounce resulting in a huge pass play, a fumble deep in their territory, and some dropped passes.
The vikings last game was gifted to them BECAUSE the cardinals allowed them to have a chance to score at the end of regulation. His best chance to win was not with the patchwork defense trying to hold on.
please stop saying MCDC cost the lions last year it was josh reynolds who dropped the ball twice when he should have caught it but MCDC is a leader who always takes the blame thats why lions fans respect our coach for the 4th down calls
Thrilling and entertaining right to the last second! What more can you ask for with regards to professional football? This game is one for the "books."
Lions are becoming the Chiefs with the calls they get. Every single borderline call goes their way and its changing the outcome of the games. They are good enough without constantly getting the benefit of the doubt by the officials. They are also pretty damn dirty, im starting to lose a lot of the good feeling towards them from previous years.
@@anthonyr587 Not even remotely true. Watch the tapes, if not 50/50 on judgement calls, the Lions get ripped a lot. Matter of fact, several rules changes over the years resulted in the Lions getting screwed in games. At the end of the day, the Pack lost, sis
@@reversiontothemean6129 And the other way around. Lions getting screwed in games has resulted in several rules being changed or changed back to what they were before. We always seemed to be the guinea pigs.
Ions season ticket holder. I’m rolling with Dan. Do you understand what we have been through. The fact that he even got us to the NFC championship makes me roll with our guy.
Going for it on 4th isnt just a matter of 3 vs 7 points. Its also about momentum. Its also about showing your players that you trust them. Its also about stressing out the opponents defense.
As Paul addressed the biggest difference is consistency, the Lions played 60 minutes of football full tilt with a bunch of "ham and eggers" as the late WWF legend Freddie Blassie would say and the Packers could only put in 30 minutes of full tilt in the second half. it's been the story the whole season , one good half of football does not make a SB contender, it was proven this game. Great show as always guys. GPG !
😂 typical dumb talk Packers had E.Copper, Doubs, Jaire Alexander, Williams,Ballard May I continue so stop it we are just as hurt with backups!! Lions will not win a championship again the nerve of you do your homework first before you talk. Acting like yall won a chip already humble yourself because your not beating us 3 times
@ We’re WAY more banged up than Green Bay, with half our defense being very recent pickups and practice squad players! You guys had EVERY opportunity to beat us but you couldn’t because Green Bay is still mentally weak. The Lions’ clawed and shredded Green Bay’s cheese, and SWEPT the cheese for the season!!!! Now we’re at 6 wins out of the last 7, and beating the Packers is gonna continue!! Choke Pack Choke
Lions fans have watched boring, humiliating football for so long that Coach Campbells aggressiveness is rejuvinating. His style is: if we are going to lose it will be throwing punches. Love it. Outside of that, the gameplan made sense for the circumstances; you had a replacement defense on the field. Instead of throwing them to the wolves for a full game, he asked them to come out with their hair on fire and that he would protect them from then on. He did that. It was a preplanned time of posession game where the onus was on the offense to win the game. Thats what happened.
Remember when Goff went 18 for 18 but everyone shit on it because the Seahawks were sooooo injured? So.... can we revisit that now and actually recognize that it was historically impressive?
@ Man up with Icy Hot and quit your whining………..we won with a massive amount of injured key players. You’re exactly right. We gave Green Bay multiple opportunities to take over. You wanna bitch about calls??? Try being a Lions fan for years, we know all about missed calls. Enjoy your tears! #GoLions
The intangible aspect of fourth down attempts is the trust Campbell has in his team. It inspires and motivates. So tired of talking heads whine about fourth down attempts. This is what the team is. They’re unapologetic about unconventional game play. It’s soul crushing for other teams to know fourth down isn’t an automatic punt.
You have to understand the 4th down plays have a lot more benfits. Culture being one of the biggest but it also creates more for the opponent's defense to have to worry about.
Its just being aggressive and using an extra down compared to the rest of the league. Lions overachieve because of that and will never win a Superbowl because in the playoffs they’ll be outmatched
Not the end of the world as a packers fan, but it is disappointing to lose another game against a top team. It’s worrying that we just can’t beat the best of the NFC this season
Yeah, its rough. It feels like GB is better balanced this year, but it just doesn't feel like its enough. Hard fought, good game, but it feels like GB will replay last year's playoffs
@audreyhagar7893 no I'm not gonna blame the refs...GB lost because they only played 30 minutes of football and DET played 60. Lafluer is soft and so is the men he leads.
Dan Campbells aggressiveness is the reason that a team with 16 injuries on defense can still win games against top teams like they did tonight but in a playoff bracket the chances that they go 3/3 or 4/4 and win a Super Bowl going for it on all these 4th downs just doesn’t seem likely. It’s a good thing they’re gonna be the 1 seed most likely so they don’t have to play the extra game
That is also the reason they have 16 injuries to begin with. They better win big this year, this doesn't look sustainable. Also it's not so much his aggressiveness, but it's that potent offense to begin with. It makes his aggressiveness pay off. But the second it falters, like in the 49ers game, he's got to learn to take points.
@ well I think it’s sustainable as long as they retain this level of talent and the coordinators but the problem is they just paid Goff the bag and eventually you’re gonna have to pay the young guys which will chip away at depth and they’re gonna have to let some guys go. I do agree this year might have to be the year though if they’re gonna get it done cause I’m getting 2022 eagles vibes where they have this incredible team with arguably 3 head coaches if both coordinators get HC jobs somewhere else this off-season and the team just isn’t the same the next year.
@@blake7639 Really doesn't matter with the way Holmes has been drafting. Whoever we lose, we'll pick up at least 2-3 starters per draft that'll be on rookie contracts for 4 years again. And free agents WANT to play for us now.
@ Holmes has been objectively excellent and I didn’t mean to imply the lions won’t be a perennial playoff team but that 2023 draft class will go down as one of the best in franchise history and unless he’s doing that every 2-3 years regression will always hit naturally especially if you don’t have one of the super hero’s of the league at QB, Mahomes Allen ETC. My main point is everything was pointing towards this year as the year for them to win the superbowl and with all these injuries it forces them to play a way that historically isn’t sustainable throughout a playoff run.
Lions fan here. I don’t have a problem going for it at the end. But going for it on our 29 was foolish. That said in the aggregate, if you’re considering the philosophy as a whole, I like it.
@ yeah I would have. Just because it works doesn’t mean it was a good risk to take. But as I said, his logic totally made sense for the last one. And, I agree with, or support is a better way to put it, the general proposition to be aggressive on 4th down.
He’s right, his hyper aggressiveness cost them the NFC championship he’s a great coach but Goff did slip and he also gave a the packers the ball on there own 30. Not to say he isn’t a elite coach who changed the culture in Detroit but if he played conservative on maybe those essential crucial plays he’d be perfect. Idk man if y’all want him to keep goin crazy dw he isn’t gonna stop. Just remember this before u go crucify him if he costs u in the playoffs
I know paul loves bringing up the nfc championship 4th down attempts into question , but if you look back at the attempts, I had more faith in them picking up 4-5 yards than badgley hitting a 54 yard field goal, not to mention Reynolds dropped the fourth down conversion
Refs were unbearably bad. 4 huge and obvious no calls (2 hands to the face, no hold on Nixon, no OPI on St Brown), and a bs call (OPI because Watson ran his route). Just insane
@@TheToby121 Not a horse collar tackle, grabbed by the wrist and thrown down. His other hand more wrapped around the right shoulder pad when he was coming down with love. Once again, not a horse collar tackle.
Paul, luck played no part in the 4th down conversion to ice the game. That was pure will power by the entire Lions team. They were not going to fail. The 4th down decisions in the NFC Championship game were not the reason the Lions lost. The Hail Mary type of pass that bounces off a defenders helmet and gets caught near the goal and a subsequent Gibbs fumble on the following drive were the difference in the game in Santa Clara. Campbell has preached to his team, his ownership, his coaches and his fans what the Detroit Lions are all about. They get the best coaching, they get the ultimate respect as player from the organization that puts them first and they play their asses off from the first whistle to the last every game. There are no teams like the Detroit Lions in the NFL. They might not win the Super Bowl, but they are by far the best team assembled right now.
There won't be a rematch in the playoffs this packers team is overrated they couldn't beat a Lions team that is bringing guys in off the street the packers lose in the wildcard round imo
The Packers are 0-4 against current NFC playoff teams. The confidence of Packers fans in a team who hasn’t won any of the big games on their schedule is remarkable. I think an intellectually honest person would call that wishful thinking at best.
Lions have scored 4 4th down touchdowns against the Packers in the last two games. Thats wild. What was even more wild was the Lions defensive lions absolutely dominating a very good packers pass protection. Definitely didnt see that coming. packers line got punched in the mouth and MLF didn't adapt his play calling enough early on. He finally did in the 3rd quarter and the Packers started moving the ball. Packers cant cover the middle of the field and the Dolphins and Lions exploited that, and even the Bears. Packers need to get Jaire and Cooper back. Lions better hope Ben Johnson doesn't leave this year. That dude calls an incredible offensive game.
You both are right. This is a good discussion, as a Lion's fan I freaked out at the end when we went for it on 4th down instead of going for field goal. Last year we didn't have a good kicker he could trust also
As a lions fan, I think we needed that aggression on offense. If Goff slips, that’s a 1% fail case that doesn’t play into the decision making. We had 16 defensive players out and NEEDED to keep the ball out of Green Bay’s hands (their offense is hot asf and there is a reason they are contenders). Imo, risking a defensive stand was just as risky if not more than going for it at the end of the game
Credit to the lions on those 4th and goals they converted. Both were beautifully designed plays and worked perfectly. I can’t fault them for going for it there if they have those plays in their back pockets. The game was loss on the back of Hafley making zero adjustments that game. He never once dared Jared Goff to make a deep throw and gave up the flats all night
The league has made it clear that they want the chiefs and the lions in the super bowl, with all the no call bs and the egregious calls on the packers I just wonder how they would officiate that game
@richol87 it’s the nfl dummy. They’ve won 6 of 7. They had 100 more total yards. Dominated third and fourth down. I dont care if they won by a point. We have 16 players on IR lol. They had the ball for 36 mins. Ran twice the plays you did. It was as close to as possible as a 3 point ass whooping gets.

And I see a lot of people complaining about the OPI on Watson, but it doesn't bother me because although I think it was a bad call I do still believe the Lions would have won the game regardless. The defense wasn't stopping them. They didn't stop them at all on that drive. They were lucky to be in the 4th and inches situation in the first place. They've played well in spots but you can't give up 34 points and expect to win.
If it was one or two bad/missed calls I wouldn’t say anything, it was the whole game Lions got away with murder and Packers get caught with ticky-tack penalties
All I want is consistency they let them play all game long didn’t call shit and then call some ticky tacky bullshit on a scoring drive. Large part of those going for it on 4th down decisions in that NFC Championship game were driven by the fact that we did not have a kicker that DC trusted in those long field goal situations. IIRC those 4th downs we didnt convert were longer than 2 or 3 yards, but the field goal would have been fairly long. So he went for it there and came up short.
Dan Campbell is the head coach of the team with the best record in the NFL. Who the hell are you? How ridiculously arrogant of you to suggest that Campbell doesn't think about his decisions. Do you think Campbell cares what you or anyone else thinks? Campbell only cares about what the people in that locker room think. He believes in them, and they believe in him. Green Bay could not beat a Lions team playing with people they signed off the street on defense. That's why the game was even close. You wish you had a coach like Dan Campbell.
Paul is 100% correct. It can be true that risky decisions work out over the course of a season against average teams and also that in the playoffs the odds go down and the downside is immense. Not weighing the downside is stupidity and obstinate.
I don’t even want the refs fucking us over as an excuse. There’s so many times we could’ve put this game away in the 2nd Half and didn’t do it. It is what it is. I want to see Detroit in the playoffs that’s all I know. They were talking way too much shit
You have only beaten 1 team over .500. GB isn't ready for the prime time. Keep practicing, maybe next year Detroit will let you win at least one game against them....
Sports betting has ruined sports! The amount of missed calls and non call that helped Detroit win this game is ridiculous! The first drive of the game the holding call they called on Nixon was bs when the receiver dipped his shoulder into Nixon and pushed off! Then Nixon has a clear path for a sack and he gets pulled by his horse collar and they score a TD then the refs call an offensive PI on Watson that would’ve put the packers up 4! Plus the last drive St Brown pushed off on Nixon to get separation! This by far was the worst officiating game I’ve seen since the Fail Mary
I'm a Lions fan and I did not say "What are we doing"!!! It's incredible how people just keep harping on the NFC playoff...when no one remembers the 2 freaking passes that were dropped in that game but we keep talking about the 4th down and calling a reckless...The point is he is ok with the outcome either way..while everyone else is just scared. I ROCK with ALL his damn decisions....There are "What if's" on every single decision...we are good over here....
Packers fans: the offense didn’t kick in until 2nd half, dealt with bad calls all night, majority of the starting secondary was out, and forced Dan Campbell to go for every single 4th down to only lose by 3 points in the last seconds of the game. The rest of the world knows what the outcome will be when the rematch happens in January.
Goff was not down when he fell on his knee because no Packers defender had touched him. You can fall flat with your entire body in the NFL, and as long as no one from the other team touches you, you can get up and continue moving forward.
This isn’t a bad loss for the Packers. In spite of the penalties and Watson fumble, they we were right there with one of the best teams in the NFL in their building. I think we’re going to see a rematch in the playoffs and this game puts the Packers in a great position to win that game.
Agree with Paul on DC’s decision making. You’re taking a massive risk every time you make those decisions. It can take them very far, but It makes it much more unlikely that you make it all the way through the Super Bowl without it affecting the outcome of one of those games. Especially with how thin the margins are in the playoffs - we saw it last year against the Niners. It’s the definition of live by the sword die by the sword.
Dan Campbell didn’t cost his team anything in San Fran, any smart ball knowers knows that 1. We didn’t have a very good kicker last year so the FG wasn’t guaranteed 2. Josh Reynolds drops a fourth down throw, not DCs fault 3. Gibbs fumbled 4. Josh Reynolds dropped a wide open 3rd and 10 pass Please understand ball
Terribly officiated game, but real Packers fans won’t use that excuse. The defense felt like Joe Barry last year. Love Jeff hafley but he’s gotta get it together with those guys!
Refs stun Packers more like it. Taking the go ahead score away on some bogus call where Detroit’s guy plows into Watson. You can tell NFL wants Chiefs n Lions Super Bowl
As a Packers fan, I believe 2 things. 1. No one ever goes for it on 4th down. Not only is this your normal "pressure" of winning the game or getting ahead in the division, but it is heightened from trying to stop on 4th down. So I believe the defense gets MUCH more jumpy and clumsy on 4th downs, because they don't play them. 2. It is actually (fact check me) 51% percent across the NFL EVER going for it on 4th down. Why not go for it? It's a coin flip on either you getting the first down or giving them the ball (even with a punt) and giving them a chance to score. Talk about this on a show 😉 Again, Packers fan here. Also I speak for all Packers fans when I say I'm not scared of anyone... Yet. We went pound for pound with the best team in the NFL. We will be alright 😁
@@AlisonTuckwabkid lions got lucky because of the buffoon Campbell going for it on 4th and inches when he had a fg right there trust me my Vikings will beat the lions soon
Packer fan here. To all Packer fans, please stop complaining about no call penalties. The officiating has been like this for years and it's definitely not the reason we lost this game. The Lions don't care who they're playing and they don't care who's playing on their side. The fact that our O line struggled this much against what is basically a preseason D line is unacceptable. Our passing attack has absolutely no consistency. When you see Love under duress constantly and still make him take 7 step drop backs on every drive is crazy to me. Also to not rely on Reed or Kraft with any consistency is crazy. They need to start relying on their pass catchers to get the yardage instead of Love getting it through the air. It definitely didn't feel like we put up 31 points. As far as our defense, you're not going to win games when you allow 4 out of 5 fourth down conversions and 2 of those conversions were touchdowns. We're also not going to win games when Goff targets our linebackers with a 100% success rate. Mcduffie allowed 9 completions on 9 targets, Walker allowed 7 completions on 7 targets, I'm not sure about Wilson. McKinney allowed 3 receptions on 3 targets, our entire CB room is basically a liability at this point except for Nixon from time to time and those times are few and far between. This defense couldn't do a thing and nobody stepped up at all. The Packers knew what they were coming into and they played with a fraction of the intensity, violence, and aggression that the Lions 3rd and 4th stringers played with. It seriously makes me question the culture surrounding this team when this is what we see every season. I'm sure I'm letting my emotions cloud this but how many more times do we need to see this happen? We need some assholes on this team. We need proven football players instead of athletes.
@ My point is that he’s not part of the playcalling or game planning process at all, just simply the fourth down decisions when it comes to those aspects of the game. That may not be completely true, but I’ve gotten that info from PFF guys which I take as trustworthy.
I feel like the Packers are different this year than last year in that the halftime adjustments have been excellent. We have won the second half in almost every game. Slow starts and self-inflicted wounds in the first half are what is killing us!
Everyone talking about the last 4th down like MCDC made a bad call or will cost us. The reason I call BS is, as a long time Lions fan, I have seen MANY MANY MANY times the Lions do the safe thing and the other team comes back and wins with 3 seconds left. Just look at one of Aaron Rogers highlight reel where he threw a 65 yard bomb in the Lions end zone to win. That play took that away. If they make it they win and control. If they don't, the Packers have to go 50 yards for a field goal with no time-out, which is what everyone was proposing the Lions do.
This was a great test for the Pack to really see their overall progress this year. We still have a year or two to go before I will start talking Superbowl but...I think we are on a good track.
You said it right, multiple times: “I just don’t get it”. It is consistently hardening & tempering your players with trust & pressure MULTIPLE times per game MULTIPLE times per season. It is a tool Dan keeps sharp, and you worry about getting cut. No way to be a Samurai when you are worried about a cut.
The decisions were NOT bad at San Fran. Those passes were on-target. Those recievers normally did NOT drop on-target passes. Young Lions just were not quite ready for that stage.
In regards to the 4th down decisions, i also think they’re not as silly as they seem either, he’s built this team for those short situations, we have an agressive and dominant line, a downhill running back, and receivers that are excellent in the slot and down the middle of the field with a qb whose greatest talent is his accuracy. He’s built this team for consistent short yardage situations and like i don’t think the packers were prepared for 4/5 of those situations today and he’s built a team that might be the hardest to stop from getting 1-2 yards on a given play so he’s built his team in a way that also allows him to be agressive
I agree with Ziggy. I was filling that Green Bay Packers should have went for the touchdown on fourth down rather than the field goal. Big risk but what would be the difference a loss is a loss go for it.
Going for it in 4th down on the opponents two yard line is a completely different level of risk than going for it on your own 29 or putting a game winning kick at risk. Treating the upside versus downside risk of all the decisions the same is not logical.
when detroit went for it inside their own 35, I felt great as a packers fan because it set the packers up for at least 3 points and they got a touchdown to go ahead by 4. If they punt I am not sure that the packers get 7 that easy.
This is so weird, I'm a Lions fan but agree with both sides regarding Dan Campbell's aggressiveness. Both guys made great arguments why they do or dont trust DCs agrevviseness, both are compelling. But what nobody stated is that DC was ultra agreesive in this specific game due to the shorthanded Defense, it's like he decided to take the most possessions upon the offense since the D was so decimated, imo makes the gameplan even more genius.
We were punting and kicking field goals but after the massive injuries he had to adjust his risk because it was the only way to win this one .when we get more guys back he will scale down the risk .
Nah, failure to stop 4th downs is what did it. Just couldn't get out of those short yardage plays. DC was aggressive when it was 3 yards or shorter consistently, and he got 3 yards or less to gain consistently
@@Erik_Ice_Fang Christain Watson could be looked as a reason for losing the game all the time. Not only did he make that an easy call for the refs to make but he had a horrible inexcusable fumble when he had just caught a decent completion. All anyone has to do in that situation is secure the football and fall to the ground. He is fast and athletic but lacks fundamentals. He should have been traded a long time ago.
don’t act like Detroit didn’t get bad calls either but we also didn’t let it stop us either. if the rolls were reversed an the packers won u wouldn’t say anything about the refs both teams had bad calls. but u guys also had many miss opportunities without being flagged as well. like fumbling the ball.
Also DC can’t control Josh reynolds dropping both 4th down potential conversions

That was a good Thursday night game. Felt like a playoff game
Thank you for giving a realistic take as a fellow Packers fan. The Lions are a bit better, especially when they get healthier.

@@structuredcmlandclearingex3843 Our "moron" is 12-1. How's your team doing?

In the biggest game of the year, that same “aggressiveness” is why Detroit didn’t play in the SB last year. It’ll cost Detroit again.

They had the ball for 36 mins. Ran twice the plays you did. It was as close to as possible as a 3 point ass whooping gets.
31 points and still a loss. Hafley is certainly an improvement, but he still has to be better.
We also need to realize, Detroit is a no1 offense and hyper efficient
I'm convinced Joe Barry never left. Nothing ever changes with Matt Lafluer picking DCs.

Packer fan but I love your show because you seem to be the most well informed and non-biased of any NFC north fan I've ever seen. You got it just right. This falls squarely on the defense.
Agreed, even though our defense was bad.
Ya, the only thing that bothered me was a couple hits Love took and no call.
Yeah, almost like the NFL are going to do everything they can to set up a Lions v Chiefs Superbowl.
All I want is consistency they let them play all game long didn’t call shit and then call some ticky tacky bullshit on a scoring drive. Let Amon ra push off like that is crazy so many times over and over but then call some stupid bullshit on Watson he was sandwiched what is he supposed to do jump into the other defender to avoid the guy running right at him

@@platoniczombieand Gibbs fumble
You wish you had a coach like Dan Campbell.
all hail dan Campbell . big plays big balls . in goff we trust
Paul is 100% correct. It can be true that risky decisions work out over the course of a season against average teams and also that in the playoffs the odds go down and the downside is immense. Not weighing the downside is stupidity and obstinate.
Some people don’t like risk. Lions love it . Risk nothing win nothing

@thomasalexander8581 what lmao, yall have and are always a Poverty franchise. You win some games for the first time and don't know how to act.
I don't think gambling has anything to do with refs missing calls
The refs were ass
Our defense did bad but it helps when the lionss can do whatever without being called

Ziggy is a smart guy and definitely knows his football 💯

Agree with Paul on DC’s decision making. You’re taking a massive risk every time you make those decisions. It can take them very far, but It makes it much more unlikely that you make it all the way through the Super Bowl without it affecting the outcome of one of those games. Especially with how thin the margins are in the playoffs - we saw it last year against the Niners. It’s the definition of live by the sword die by the sword.

Dan Campbell is a motivator that survives off his coordinators
It seems hard to know whether or not this is true, since he’s only had one set of coordinators.
@ My point is that he’s not part of the playcalling or game planning process at all, just simply the fourth down decisions when it comes to those aspects of the game. That may not be completely true, but I’ve gotten that info from PFF guys which I take as trustworthy.

Ziggy is right, we needed one more big play. On to next week. What crazy one.

Lions arent 12-1 without his aggressiveness. They don't win the playoff game against the rams without that aggressiveness.

This game was fucking sad man i cannot believe we lost like that. Started the second half kinda hot then a stupid OPI call cost us the game
