It's about Ariana wanting the boyfriend to break up with the girl (which is herself) so she could have time to love herself before she loved anybody else. So you were right Aaron.
Ah...I’ve never thought of it like that. Now u got me thinking more into it. She was looking at relationship play out out. Looking at her relationship, she’s bored of, she was looking at herself (the girl in mirror) reflecting. Then at start she was looking at herself. She was blonde (thinking blondes don’t have more fun cos she was sitting in club bored) she fancied a change (relationship) went brunette cos she saw herself as brunette. She wanted something different or she was trying to be someone else in relationship.
The guy’s eyes was always wondering elsewhere even when they’re together, he’s looking elsewhere even though she’s there present in relationship

Good take, on the meaning of the video. I'm so used to videos and songs not always, matching, that I stopped seeking meanings eons ago. And with this being my jam, I get lost in it, and don't think about what it means.
But on a re-listen, it does make sense. Especially in the lyrics about her getting all caught up in a guy, then realizing that her real self is/has been there all along. The person she really is, vs. who she has been trying to be for him or while trying to get his attention. Most especially when you do, have to stop and realize the fake chick you have become, can't really compare with who you really are.
