And she also said i don't know the translation of "cold war".

@@listey The leaders of the UK, US and Russia literally had a meeting where they allied together and made many promisses for different scenarios. One of the main reasons of the Cold War was because the US sent their troops in only when the russians were already chasing back the Nazis to Berlin. The russian government nearly entirely blamed the millions of deaths of russian civilians, and polnish soldiers on the US allies playing hide & seek with the french while whole villages were brutally massacred.

To be fair, she seemed to not have understood what the question was about.
Yes, cold war to Kalter Krieg should have been an easy translation, but sometimes you're stuck in the wrong corner of your mind, especially under pressure. She was desperately searching for an actual war in her data base, it seemed. Pretty sure if she was asked the question in German it would have clicked for her - she might still not have had the right answer, though.
And also, 1989 was the fall of the Berlin wall, 1990 the year of the reunification of Germany, 1991 the year of the collapse of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia was broken up in 1992, which means there is not one specific year. The answer is kind of wrong and correct at the same time. Schroedinger's cold war...
But yes, these things are taught in school and it is a bit embarrassing.

I think education systems all need an update. At the moment it’s based on learning tons of “facts” but you don’t need to know - you can Google, ask Siri or Alexa. Teach people where to look for information, check facts, think for themselves rather than taking things at face value. Read more, spark their interest in a subject and encourage them when they make progress. Languages have always been important and still are but not everyone needs to be fluent- you can talk into your phone and have your words converted to any language and ok it’s not the best way to communicate but it works! We are too stuck in the past when we need skills to appreciate other people’s point of view and be able to put your point across without any anger or attitude. We need to work at helping each other to cope with an ever changing world, how to love and respect people who may be different or have learning difficulties, to share ideas and basically stop leaving others behind, help them to achieve something that makes them feel good about themselves. You do learn such a lot at school that you never use again and for what? To keep you occupied whilst the grownups go to work. If everyone pitched in we could have less work time, be more productive and enjoy more leisure time. All it takes is everyone pulling together.

As you can imagine as we were civilised and peaceful people, we din't want to live neither under sick German NAzi nor ruskies commie regime). In June 1989 there were first semi-free elections in Poland (first since before WW2) former Soviet block when Solidarity movement won and that was an end of communism. You just followed. We had a war after 1945 against ruskies and their puppets, and every decade that was an uprising starting from protests against regime with repressions, killing of dissidents etc , in the end of 1970s the Solidarity was created and till 1989 it was a constant peaceful uprising till the first free again elections in 1989. The Us actively supported the movement and helped to gain support for it all over the world. Btw West Germans were helping too.
So yes, we were the first country to get rid of commies and as Poland was occupied, huge majority of our "communists" were not communists by their believes or free choice so when they had a chance they quickly gave up the power (the transfer was both a peaceful negotiations and a result of elections so called "Rond Table Agreement), transferred into capitalists and started building democracy together with former opposition (we have ca 500 years of democratic traditions so yeah, communist, totalitarian, ruskies f*cked up regime is not sth natural to us, the same as NAzi regime). And we are not the biggest russophobes in the world without a reason XD We fought ruskies for hundreds of years dude, we're the biggest enemies so saying that sth happen overnight in that matter is funny as f..XD

I think one of the biggest problems in learning for US contra the World is the attitude of people coming out of the school system!?
You will always have an predominant emphasis of the country's history You come from.
But and this is a big but, other countries do not think their history is the is the only history or the history of the developed world quite like Americans from US!!
You do not find anyone in Europe that will claim their part of the world is the only one, or discuss that for instance Georgia is not a country in Europe but a state in US with a Georgian citizen and unwilling to think they could be wrong!!!
I found this US couple in their sixties travelling the world and I think they were retired!
They were describing places in Europe they visited and the Airbnb they were renting and complaining that the standard was not to good because there was not a drying machine for their clothe and made the most ridiculous comparison to US I have ever seen!!
That because of that and the lack of climate systems in European houses Europe was not as developed as US?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They also complained the local peoples of countries in Europe did not speak English so they should do that more in Europe???????????????
I really don't quit know how to handle such a claim, just the entitlement arrogance and sheer obnoxious self-absorbed attitude shoved into such remark is something unique in US!!
I suggested to them that they might try to learn a language other that English???!!!
As no surprise they did not respond!!!
That being said You should cut these US Americans some slack, they did not fair that bad!
They actually was the first ones to get the question about something Europeans should crush it........The Black Death, the plague of the 13 hundred i Europe!!
Not like Thrumpfz that claimed Spanish plague was the reason WW I stopped!!!!!!??????????????????????????
You know the Spanish plague from 1918 that was called that because countries was to scared to name it and it was first revealed to be a pandemic in Spain, hence the name!
Not to forget WW I enden in 1917 and US soldiers brought this disease to Europe!!!!!!
The US school system and it's short comings You can thank the Republicans and peoples like Melinda and Bill Gates the spend a decade to break US teaching in schools and not listening to teachers telling them otherwise and after finding out they were wrong just going; Oh well that was bad and leaving it up to the US Stats to clear up their mess and taxpayers to bear the costs of their Fu..-up for decades after!!!!

I used to think that most Americans had a good early education and were open-minded, intellectually curious and good at critical, independent thinking. All the American expats I had worked with or learned to know were like that. Oh, boy have I have a rude awakening over the past years! Now I know that there are more people in Europe who have a basic understanding of Americans civics, the US Constitution and the American legal system than there are in the US. That has been a shocker to me. The pandemic was another thing that layed the ignorance of a lot of Americans bare for the world to observe. It looks to me like the US is politically divided even when it comes to the quality of education for children.

7:09 the Italian girl doesn't know the italian word for mile?!? They have a world famous car rally "la mille miglia" the 1000 mile rally!
so mile (s.) milgio and miles (pl.) are miglia.
Shame on her that she has to be told by a German (who lived in Italy for about 4 years).

But there is no local translation for "mile". At least not in my country, for the "American mile".
My country only has kilometers, and so on. But the American mile does not exist. Then we have to literally say 1,6 kilometers.
(It is so stupid. Why can't they just use kilometers and so on? 😂)

You can‘t just translate mile to mille, because it is a measurement and Not a number. As the correct answer tells you, a mile is 1600 m or 1.6 km and not 1000. By the way, mille is thousand in English and not mile…

It was translated not reinterpreted.I saw that Tom Hanks Movie too but it was based on a Book, not historic Facts.(as far as i know)
With todays pandering to Crybullies i wouldnt put my Faith in any new Version of the Bible either to be honest. But then,im not part of the "modern Audience" anyways.

The bible litterly changed with every new king and or pope. With every new copy or "print".
It was the favourite past time to censore or change even the core meaning of the bible.
Wasnt there a king that got scared about leaving the word "Tyrann" in the bible and changed it cause it can be referred to kings. So if anybody says the bible is the absolut truth they are as right as Eve eating the apple. Idiots preaching things they know are at least 99% made up, by guys that bragged about changing it. Not even like God is made up, more like the content of the bible is litterly made up and revised for 1000 of years. I find that so funny. Since a time i always have a little laugh when i hear someone actually preaching Bible content. (Btw tora or qur´an is pretty much same, just that the method of changing was different.)

Communism broke apart in 1989 when Poland after a struggle lasting for 44 years (since 1945) broke free from soviet occupation. In June 1989 there were first semi-free elections in former soviet occupied bloc, won by Solidarity movement under Lech Walesa. That was a greatest victory of democracy in this part of the world and a destruction of oppressive, communist regime that was not chosen by Poland or any country that was in soviet zone of influence. Solidarity fought for 10 years to achieve that (US was supporting its struggle and e.g. introduced sanctions on USSR and communist regime in Poland after they tried to destroy the Solidarity moment in 1980/81) and before that in Poland there was an uprising every decade against ruskies oppressors and their stupid communism (we hate communism in Poland till today, calling sb a "communist" is the biggest slander, similarly like in the US XD).
