damn i love the Internet... so freakin awesome getting the low down history from Hip Hop's greatest. Born and raised in Kenya, I didn't even know who Marley Marl and Mr Magic were when I heard Biggie shout them out on his records! And now I get to know the whole story...wow!! Now I watch this and its like I am sitting in a hip hop class learning about something that is so close to my heart. God Bless the Internet and UA-cam. ''School shyt is a joke!"😎..... Thank you Enuff and Marley Marl for sharing!
DJ Guche Grande u didn’t know because u wasn’t on it bro if u like Dj and scratching u would know about him bro plus he produced a lot of songs u like today
Amazing interview!! Much respect to DJ Marley Marl for da experience and knowledge!! And to DJ Enuff, great interview, perfect questions. U hit da spot !! Great work guys!! Hip Hop lives!! Thanks!!
This man pretty much invented sampling....let that simmer for a minute. Kool Herc, Bam, Flash, DJ Jazzy Jay, Red Alert and others started a culture but this MAN opened a door with production using technology and soul that cannot be closed !!!! Peace
Dimples D's 'Sucker DJs' was Detroit's introduction to DJ Marley Marl (pronounced MOLLEY MOLL!) and then came MC Shan's 'Marley's Scratch' and it was on and poppin'... I'm diggin' the modded old school Technics too!
i became a fan of marley marl after i keep on hearing his name for years, i saw him rocking with shante and the sympathy record, i am like who is this guy? hes amazing
Good interview. I was around back then but I still learned a lot from this. A lot of people don't know Marley also had a daily House music show for an hour during 12-1pm on WBLS in addition to the weekend show he hosted with Mr. Magic. The man was a true DJ - I'm saying - beat matching House is a challenge, keeping current with what's hot is hard as hell without crowd response as well.
This dude made me wanna make beats as a child. I would have beats in my head...but didn't know how to get them out. I got what I need to do that now. Thanks MM!!! Love my dude.
Yeah but at the same Hot 97 was the first to bring that commercial b**lsh*t painful rap R&B whatever you call it .. you know the sh*t the kids listen to today 👎
What a legend! As one who doesn't use turntables anymore it was positive to hear Marley describe what a true DJ is and embrace different technology. Music knowledge , music formatting and crowd control makes or breaks a DJ. Not Turntables!
Much respect to Marley for the Rap Attack shows AND, one of the best rap producers of ALL time! Marley and Mr. Magic's Rap Attack radio shows got me tuned in BIG time!!!!!! Mad respect Marley, and keep up the good work.
Shit..i used to play with sl 1015 at the clubs, plenty of torque, +-9.9 pitch, but what you have done with your tts its GREAT, respect from Germany, much love for you guys!!!! :D
DAMN! To be in New York when it all started to GROW?! Amazing. I became a B-boy in 1978 after watching "Rerun"(Fred Berry) "poppin' " on "What's Happening". I started DJing in 1983. ALL of the O.G.s influenced me. Bam, Hercules, Red Alert, Chuck Chill-Out, Flash, etc. As well as some of my classmates from my hood. Cedric Chaffold, Renard Whaley, Urban Reeves(That's his real name y'all), and Chris McCready.
So let me get this straight He says he was the first DJ on radio to do a mix show but his inspiration to become a DJ was listening to DJ scratch vocals to a instrumental on a radio mix show? Hmmm...??? Still scratching my head. Still love to my Marley and Red tapes though.
His Mr Magic stories are life. Especially the day BDP came to studio and they stole his sample reel and Mr Magic told them with a can of beer get the hell outta here 😅
Really would love to see what his very early recording process was like with MC Shan. The audio quality was not great, but had such a distinctly booming sound
Aviously the disadvantage to technology such as seroto is it's all visual and not audio. I believe computers take the fun away on trying to find that mix, seroto makes it easy. I bought seroto scratch live 3 like 7 years ago. I used it 3 times and haven't used it since.
Whoaaaa he still got the skills!!!!! I'd love to see/hear him and Ca$h Money wreck sh*t up on 4 turntables!!! What talent! What a proper human being! ;) Plus what a lucky lucky interviewer to be touching history like that! Marley is super humble and not faking the sh*t like a lot of bling bling crap rappers today! Plus 6 people definately came to this thread by mistake! Probably they are back in there own very little world checking out Paris Hilton messing it up on serato or some shit like that hahahah ;) Worrrrd!
Marley Marl, the legendary DJ.
for those who like hip hop yall should salute him for what he did and is doing for the culture
Ten Hut!!

Name of vinyl?
Do the what? Do the what? Do the uptown bounce ! 🎶
Aviously the disadvantage to technology such as seroto is it's all visual and not audio. I believe computers take the fun away on trying to find that mix, seroto makes it easy. I bought seroto scratch live 3 like 7 years ago. I used it 3 times and haven't used it since.

Enuff, let me ask you... what are the advantages and disadvantages of you keep asking this question?
What turntables is he spinning on?
What the name of the turntables ?
What song is that from Jay-Z Marl is Playing?..It sounds like a remix.
In the book of 5 rings Miyamoto Mushai said you should never do the same move more than 3 times. But what do I know I am not a famous DJ. :)
