No one sits in it , and my cats never sit on it . That is until my cats were ready to leave earth 😳. At the end of their days, both my cats went to sit on my gg rocking chair. Need to set that recorder in the attic rooms that were “prayer rooms”….. Many do not believe in spirits or ghosts, I was one of them until we moved into this house 30 years ago. We have a spirit.we named it Fiscus. Hopefully your spirits are as nice as he is!
We live with at least 3 "haints" (southern USA for "ghosts"...lol) in our house. Only one is actually attached to the house as it's not all that old. One may be attached to the land rather than the house. And one is probably a family member. I was on the fence until I moved in here. EVPs, lights turning on & off (witnessed by others and literally on cue), items missing that turn up where you KNOW you looked and you're the only person in the house at the time. Thankfully, all benign. Our version of "coexist" is different from most! 😁

Having a USA Southern senior woman fall in love with the project and faithfully watching the progress says something. So what its too much for someone else's liking? The Too Much Wood people are slaves to decorating trends, I think. They are just the people you don't want around during any historic restoration. I always laugh when I picture them stripping everything they've painted when the pendulum swings back in a few years.

Our over 100 year old home 3 storey plus a basement ( built late 1800 .s ) would bang and creak on its own … pressure release from the timber’s , old nails popping or joists releasing some pressure … being a wood construct within a rock walls makes for great accustics ! Like living in a piano !!!
I think it would be interesting if you caught the person crying that your brother heard in December when he was there at the convent working on the organ. Put the recorder in the chapel, where your brother heard the crying upstairs

I think the process evolves, and you make the right decisions. The projects seem so huge at the beginning, but it is fun seeing it all come together. The library will be stunning. The French panels and bookcases are gorgeous. I understand your desire to create the library to feel as if it were added “later” (1800’s), a way to create a sense of layered time. All very French, and quite beautiful. I can’t wait to see it all completed!

Billy, Alex, Yanis, and all of you working on the convent - Hello from Birmingham, Alabama! Everyday I look forward to seeing another video of the work that’s been accomplished. Even though I can watch it on my phone during the day, I force myself to wait until I get home so I can see the work on my (much larger) television. Watching the work reminds me of a time when I worked on my own old home. Billy, your comment to preserving the structures and history while modernizing it is wonderful. The kitchen is awesome! I can’t wait to see what you and your brother (and everyone else) do with the kitchen at the chateau. I’ve never heard of too much wood in a library. Keep doing what you’re doing. Your instincts have been spot on so far. While many of us live vicariously through the videos and have our own ideas, we aren’t the ones directly funding it or having to live with the work. Keep at it. When you recently toured the pantry for us, you pointed out the two transoms. I think the two doors were just there for bringing in produce. I don’t think one was in and the other out. What I do wonder is where they processed the produce for storage. Is there any indication of an area where they did, or do you think they just did that in the garden using the well water to wash it? Many of the comments have already covered my ideas for recording. The two small rooms in the attic. The area where the writing was on the wall. My adds would be the confessional area, the apartment where the fire occurred, and maybe the Mother Superior’s apartment/office. Yanis - Thank you again for the interview. I wish you all the best. This summer I visited The Biltmore in Asheville North Carolina built by a Vanderbilt. The library's style is like the one you are creating. It is stunning! All wood inset cabinets. You will love seeing it. Take a look.
@@christmasczar I agree. I loved the couches that faced the big fireplace and the spiral stairs. It was a bit dark and wondered how people read in there. But what a great place to sit by the fire, take a nap with an open book.
Just a few decorating ideas for you. 1 - How about a royal blue interior for the inside of the bookcases? 2 - What about plaster boarding above the bookcases and either find a perfect wallpaper to highlight everything or use a material to cover it? 3 - if you like the idea of the plasterboard, in the spaces you would have to have the carpenter piece out the paneling, introduce small sections of the wallpaper/material covered plasterboard instead of the huge expense of more paneling? It would break it up a bit and give another focus for your eyes instead of all wood. Oh, the material I was thinking of is that French style with the different oval scenes that tells a story!

I would just recommend to run electric plugs or outlets in the stud work behind the cabinets for lighting and or plug accessibility for cleaning later. Like to run a vacuum or anything that needs power.

Adding to the library a grand piano and some couches to relax would make the library very intimate. “Lounge at the Library “. The Convent is very spiritual and yes, souls wonder your halls.
Love your ad-libbing on your vision, it made me appreciate how creative an experience it is to physically build a concrete living space for the ages and we should respect all artists as well; listen and witness the work. Seeing creativity in action whilst directing a team is enough of a privilege to justify your annoyance. Who would have said to Da Vinci "There's too much brown" or "Her smile is silly" and dared ask for respect in return.🍎🍎🍎

Great opening, Alex, so spooky. I’m getting this feeling that the night recorder leaning against the stairs might end up at the bottom. If I were a ghost I would be oh-so tempted. Hope not, though. Billy, the library is looking great. Love all of the Rothschild wood. I also love the idea of the deep red velvet lining, or even dark green (saw that in a glass-cased chiffarobe done by the folks at Escape to the Dream, if you know them.) Wood gives a space warmth. Your space is quite large so the wood will give it a much needed warmth. Your vision is spot-on for the library.

The library will be stunning. The French panels and bookcases are gorgeous. I understand your desire to create the library to feel as if it were added “later” (1800’s), a way to create a sense of layered time. All very French, and quite beautiful. I can’t wait to see it all completed!

I'm glad you are doing it your way and that it's not going to be restored to be a museum. If someone in the future dislikes holes in original floors, that will be their problem! I always wanted a house with a library. Yours will be cozy and warm with the wood everywhere. Like a library should!❤

Billy, Alex, Yanis, and all of you working on the convent - Hello from Birmingham, Alabama! Everyday I look forward to seeing another video of the work that’s been accomplished. Even though I can watch it on my phone during the day, I force myself to wait until I get home so I can see the work on my (much larger) television. Watching the work reminds me of a time when I worked on my own old home. Billy, your comment to preserving the structures and history while modernizing it is wonderful. The kitchen is awesome! I can’t wait to see what you and your brother (and everyone else) do with the kitchen at the chateau.
I’ve never heard of too much wood in a library. Keep doing what you’re doing. Your instincts have been spot on so far. While many of us live vicariously through the videos and have our own ideas, we aren’t the ones directly funding it or having to live with the work. Keep at it.
When you recently toured the pantry for us, you pointed out the two transoms. I think the two doors were just there for bringing in produce. I don’t think one was in and the other out. What I do wonder is where they processed the produce for storage. Is there any indication of an area where they did, or do you think they just did that in the garden using the well water to wash it?
Many of the comments have already covered my ideas for recording. The two small rooms in the attic. The area where the writing was on the wall. My adds would be the confessional area, the apartment where the fire occurred, and maybe the Mother Superior’s apartment/office.

This summer I visited The Biltmore in Asheville North Carolina built by a Vanderbilt. The library's style is like the one you are creating. It is stunning! All wood inset cabinets. You will love seeing it. Take a look.

@@christmasczar I agree. I loved the couches that faced the big fireplace and the spiral stairs. It was a bit dark and wondered how people read in there. But what a great place to sit by the fire, take a nap with an open book.
Just a few decorating ideas for you. 1 - How about a royal blue interior for the inside of the bookcases? 2 - What about plaster boarding above the bookcases and either find a perfect wallpaper to highlight everything or use a material to cover it? 3 - if you like the idea of the plasterboard, in the spaces you would have to have the carpenter piece out the paneling, introduce small sections of the wallpaper/material covered plasterboard instead of the huge expense of more paneling? It would break it up a bit and give another focus for your eyes instead of all wood. Oh, the material I was thinking of is that French style with the different oval scenes that tells a story!

You have the space and perfect prep area's. Dang, get the vegetable & fruit garden's going on the property ... so much can be done - in my opinion. I would just recommend to run electric plugs or outlets in the stud work behind the cabinets for lighting and or plug accessibility for cleaning later. Like to run a vacuum or anything that needs power.

Seeing creativity in action whilst directing a team is enough of a privilege to justify your annoyance. I love what you are doing , I think it's amazing. I love library's and they are supposed to be wooden their book cases. Some people have no vision Billy, I personally love it already and watching in excitement. At the end of the day it's your project and your money you do not have to take advice from anyone sweetie. Great opening, Alex, so spooky. I’m getting this feeling that the night recorder leaning against the stairs might end up at the bottom. If I were a ghost I would be oh-so tempted. Hope not, though. Billy, the library is looking great. Love all of the Rothschild wood. I also love the idea of the deep red velvet lining, or even dark green (saw that in a glass-cased chiffarobe done by the folks at Escape to the Dream, if you know them.) The joy in Yanis face with that sledgehammer!
