Thank you for your concern. It is happening everywhere today so we are always on the lookout. Your holiday looks like lots of fun for you and for us. Travel safely please.
I love having lots of shops around me because I love to wander around the shops but I don’t buy much.
As long as they have coffee shops I will be there.
We have just got a bad COVID 19 warning here in Australia so its home lockdown for us as we are in our 70.
Keep the videos coming please to give us something to enjoy.

The feeling of community is hard to explain to people who haven't experienced living in Alaska. It's more than a feeling. It's like knowing at a soul level that someone will always have your back. That in turn makes you more kind, generous and helpful. Kind of a group hug. I miss North Pole and Fairbanks and truly enjoy adventures with the Somers because every day is an adventure! You are a wonderful family and thank you for including us. It means a lot. Love and hugs....

Hi there, my Son, daughter n law and I just returned from a trip to Alaska to see family there! The Mountains and views were amazing. One thing I noticed was how clean the roads were everywhere! No trash on the side of the roads, etc. The fresh air was incredible and all the sites were awesome! Thanks for sharing your life there! 🙏 for you all!

Fl native here. Fell in love with Ak in 2001 when we road tripped from fl to Prudhoe bay. So beautiful! USCG took my daughter and family to Alaska a few years ago.. they’ve lived in Anchor point Eagle River and now have settled in Palmer. We have enjoyed our trips to Alaska twice a year since they landed there. In fact we’re heading to Palmer the end of the week for our summer vacation. It’s an amazing place for sure!! God bless you on your travels and thanks for taking me back down memory lane!

I could see The Somers family living in the New England states and thriving if they ever had to leave Alaska. But in my 13 years of marriage and moving around, my favorite place has been Colonial Williamsburg. We lived in Carrollton, VA for two years and I had a blast with all of the tourist, fun things to do; however, the constant traffic was not my friend. There was traffic just to go to the bank or get milk, it was a lot.
We lived outside of DC for four years but last fall moved to Montana, on the Canadian border. We love it and it’s so peaceful for raising our small kiddos. Our 5, 4, and 3 year olds are all thriving here. Plus we never have traffic - there’s not enough people for traffic. LoL

I was raised in Texas and moved to Wyoming when I was 21 years old. I have lived in absolute convenience with ever thing within driving distance an hour away from a major city, to having to drive 6 hours in any direction to go to a mall. I am much older now and live in a small town in Idaho. Its an hour drive to the nearest mall and Target.. Two hours to Yellowstone and three hours to Salt Lake City. I love it. In the crazy place we call our world today I feel pretty safe. The majority are hard working Christian folk like myself. I often joke that if the world gets any more crazy I am moving to Alaska off the grid but I like to tease. I am glad you had a nice trip. I would love to try Crumble Cookie. I have heard of it but never been to one. God Bless!

The US Navy says I had at least seven years of sea duty onboard the US Canberra CAG-2, USS Dahlgren DLG-12, and the USS Jouett CG-29. I've been to a lot of countries and cities. I've been to many of the places people are "dying to see". Done that, saw that. The best place for me was with Family and Loved ones wherever they were and are. The view and places to eat are great, but they are just the added niceness.

I have lived in Anchorage for close to 50 years. I do enjoy the mountains and being on the water as well as the urban wildlife. Anchorage is running out of land because so much of the land around it is owned by the military. And therefore can’t be developed. I have traveled all around Alaska as well and some of my favorite smaller towns are in Southeast Alaska. Ie Wrangell and Petersburg. Some of the friendliest people I have met up here.

Angie, I was stationed up there at Ft. Wainwright from 87 to 90. Alaska is a very different place now. I remember when mass communication was the pay phones on old Richardson hwy inbetween Fairbanks and North Pole. I say this because you described what I loved about my time there. Even back then, the Army and Air Force was buy up land as 'they' were expanding.

Lol she has been there for 20 years so it wasn't very encouraging. When we went to Anchorage we always made it a point to go to Red Robin and all the bigger malls. From what I understand now Fairbanks has all the major stores (expect for Best Buy and Target). I have commented here a few times. I lived in Alaska for 3 years a long, long time ago and loved it but God had other plans for where I would live. I got to go there a few years ago on a cruise (which doesn’t really give a taste of living in there) and got to go up into the interior. It was so different from when I lived there but I still have a heart for Alaska. I have a friend who is temporarily living in Anchorage and I am planning to visit her this year to scout out where I used to live (Anchorage) and I don’t know why but I still love Alaska. I think I would be happy if I could make a trip there once or twice a year. I LOVE ALASKA!

Juneau is home for us, though we’re currently out-of-state on military orders. It is hands-down the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen! People are really friendly, the pace of life is super laid back, and you get to know people so well. I rarely went anywhere without seeing someone I knew (one of the things I miss the most)!
Cons mainly come from being off the road system - higher cost of living, isolation from outside experiences/travel, etc. Very few chain stores and basically no chain restaurants. Though that actually makes it super easy to buy local and invest in the community, so it doesn’t feel like much of a con. Energy costs are actually really good because the city is hydropowered. And water costs are flat rate, so that’s pretty good too!
it’s such a wonderfully close knit community, and a great place to visit/live! The Southeast in general has some incredible towns and communities!

One thing that I can say is a drawback for Anchorage and really there are many positives. The kind of Wet Cold they have. I was stationed at Ft. Greely and flown down to Anchorage for a week for some classes. And it was only -14 which at Ft. Greely is not bad. But in Anchorate because of the water their cold goes right through anything u have on. At Delta Jct/Ft. Greely its a dry cold and feels so much better.
And for me I loved working in sports with the kids and got to coach year round. It was a Blast.

However, I miss being able to walk down to the beach whenever we wanted and the small town atmosphere in Ninilchik. We don't really miss a lot about Fairbanks. The 15% menthol sprays and rollons for pain seem to help keep bugs at bay. We spend a lot of time in areas of ticks, noseeums etc and I spray my cap good and legs, shoes, clothes it seems to keep them from landing, they still buzz around you. I started after getting Lymes and not wanting another trip of it. Some places still need strong mosquito repellant. Be safe.

Ferry rides and small plane flights to and from Juneau to Haines/Skagway are spectacular. Enjoy riding a bike along the inland passage way and rivers. I know alot of people want to move to get away from people but why anyone would take a job that’s customer service oriented but hate people. It’s just different for us. We are still deciding where to settle but after 3 months have crossed Wasilla off the list.

Great vid! I missed my Wasilla summer as I had to help fam in Florida for 3 months! Hope you guys make it to Kodiak Island someday. Alaskan to the core…pipeline days, Valdez, Jesus People witnessing downtown Anchorage in the 70s, Kodiak, Wasilla, North Pole, Ft Yukon…the road system is a very small part of the state! Your videos always brighten my day!

I enjoyed today's blog. In 1999 we spent close to 3 months in Alaska. We stayed for a whole month in an RV park that was about halfway between Fairbanks and North Pole and had a wonderful time. I have to laugh when you show pictures of Fairbanks on your blog because it was so very different back then and actually so is North Pole...lots more stores. There was not much more than Fred Myers to shop at. I ended up having to go to the dentist in North Pole. We drove our motorhome down to Seward and stayed a while. It was hard to find an RV park that had electric plug in's there but we spent our 40th anniversary and took a day cruise one day and my husband had a wonderful time on a charter fishing boat with a captain named John. Alaska became a state the same year we married. I love your blog and really love seeing things that are familiar. Oh and where would I live in Alaska, I also would live close to North Pole. :)

I love that you guys brought up medical care as a good point. I was born with a rare heart problem and all my life where I live has had to be based around being close to a specialist facility. I finally had my last surgery last year and shouldn't need anything else done! I had no idea how freeing it would feel to not have to worry about being close to a hospital. That's a real concern for a lot of people and something I think we take for granted when we live in more developed areas or cities.

We live in Tennessee. Mountains are beautiful. We live within 2 hours of Gatlinburg. We have lived here for 5 years and only been there 1 time. We thought we would go a lot but just don’t. We live about 30 minutes from North Carolina and Virginia. Beautiful area.

I live in Delta, love the wide open spaces, small town vibe and good people, no taxes, being at the base of Alaska and granite range mountain views amazing, can go out hiking, 4-wheeler, kayaking, floating rivers and lakes. We do have a medical clinic, which has pharmacy with afterhours emergent care and gp's, the specialty and hospital in fairbanks. I love Valdez and have thought of moving there. Hate the wind and cold here. Lol

@world according to brigs just did an upload about us Minnesotans cold temps are the about the same as yours (especially in the tops 3/4 of state (MINNESOTA, is small compared too Alaska, but larger than a lot of the contiguous 48 states. We have very four distinct seasons. They are winter, false spring (we go straight from winter to false spring to summer, to false winter (when it gets cold/snows before Halloween. If needed for reference I live just outside Minneapolis. Only 15ish minutes away.

Anchorage has a lot of trails and parks too. You can ride your bike from one side of town to another. But beware of the mosquitoes on the trails if you don’t like getting bitten by them. For any visitors be sure to keep an eye out for any moose and bears. We share the trails and parks with them too.

I enjoyed this video so much, seeing many places in Alaska. I live in Indiana and have been to Alaska only once on a cruise which was quite fun. My daughter and her family went also and we go off the ship every day and went on excursions. I loved the beauty of nature and the seeing different animals. Plus the weather was really nice in August. About 65 I think. I am an outdoors kind of gal spending lots of time with my grandparents who lived in the country growing up. I have followed your channel for some time now and always enjoy your videos. You guys always seem so down to earth and positive. I look forward to each new video. Take care! Diane

Kenai & North Kenai are lower prices as far as real estate.
Kenai is always cold wind due to it being rt on the Inlet & the mouth of the River!
Homer is the worst to live in the winter bcuz it’s sooo expensive!! And most everything is closed!

Hello Happy Peoples. I live in rural Western Maryland. We have mountains and it is a beautiful area. We live in a small city and our only large store is Walmart. We have no Target, Crumbled Cookie or Raising Cain. We are in the process of getting a Starbucks. I don't drink coffee so it doesn't impress me. We see all 4 seasons. It is in the upper 90s today. It is difficult to shop here so alot of times we travel.about an hour away to a larger city. I love watching your adventures. God bless your entire family.

Very much enjoyed these snap shots into your family's vacation. Your family always seem to enjoy what they're doing in the moment. It's so very wonderful to watch. If I could live somewhere in the same vein as Alaska, it would be the island of Svalbard. The seasons of the polar nights, sunny winter and polar summer all display such majestic scenes of God's beauty in such stark contrast one to another. It's absolutely breathtaking taking. As always, stay blessed and love and prayers coming your way.💞🙏
