What resources are you currently using for learning the Filipino language?

    • @globalmarissa8995

@@celinaduguay6484 I would say 98% of it is from my italki tutor and our lessons. I also use drops. I’m trying to find good listening exercises and make my resources more robust, but for now it’s mainly just the materials from my tutor!

@@celinaduguay6484 Hi! So I'm not so sure about more resources, but I am Fluent in Filipino and I am Fillipino, but I would say the best thing is to not rely on google translate because there are many ways to sound too formal when trying to have a casual conversation. So if you can speak to your relatives in Tagalog, I think that would be perfect, but if you dont, hmu and I can help out

Hi! You could try Learn Filipino with FilipinoPod101.com. I'm currently studying Spanish and Thai (a beginner with both). Started with Spanish a few years ago but had stopped for a certain reason. Also incorporating with my study some basics from other languages. But really focused on the two languages aforementioned. I'm a Filipina by the way.

That’s a great pyramid! I agree. There are so many things that I’ve heard and am familiar with, still a good amount of things I understand when I hear them but wouldn’t be able to use off of the top of my head, and then the things I actually understand well and can use.

    • @globalmarissa8995

Putting it into this triangle also made me feel better about not immediately being able to use all of these things - I'm like they're in my brain somewhere, I just have to 'level them up'. Which will happen! It'll happen for both of us! :)

I’m still a beginner!:)

@@globalmarissa8995 ok.. let me help you so it wont sound like google translate haha.
1st.. just use "pinas" to refer philippines if used in tagalog sentence. its the shortened pilipinas (tagalog of philippines)
      2. sa tagalog.... sa is referring to a place. use "ng" instead
      3. if you want to use the tagalog of an english word. spell it as it really meant to be spelt =) practice.... "praktis"
note: there is no " c " in tagalog
      4. kapag ang virus ay tumapos...
kapag ang virus ay tapos na.
mostly adding "na" adds the "already"
      so.. finish already, already finish.
but i think most would say "kapag tapos na ang virus"
      5. and the last part would be.
mas magiging magaling na ako sa pagtatagalog.
"already be good i will in speaking tagalog"
i dont really know how to explain this but just think of "how would yoda say this" ^__^

AH I thought it was ng tagalog (the google translate said no lol). Salamat po para sa tips mo! I've noticed how na is so common- whereas in English saying 'already, yet' is more of an afterthought (for me at least), it's almost necessary in Tagalog. So interesting!

So proud of you. I am a filipino who is fluent in tagalog, ilocano and english and is currently stuying spanish (conversational) and mandarin ( super beginner). Duuuuude ang hirap! But it is so addictive and fun! I just cant help myself. I actually find myself studying till 5 in the morning despite having work 2 hours after specially coming off a long break (2weeks) from studying languages. I hope you enjoy the process of studying my beautiful native tongue.
I hope you come across some interesting (at the same time beautiful) words such as "maharlika", "bahag-hari", "malumanay:, "kagilagilalas" to name a few.
Also some spanish rooted terms and slang phrases that only we filipinos have in the spanish speaking world, such as; "echefuera", "petcha de peligro" and "susmariosep!" (Hahaha).
I subscribed and would love to watch your progress as it serves as an inspiration to me as well.
By the way. Lastly, as you have stated, taglish is the more common way of speaking filipino and would definitely help you avoid sounding too proper.

Salamat po para sa mga comment mo!! The more I get into it the more I LOVE the similarities between Spanish and Tagalog and how every Spanish words seems like Filipinos took it and said “nah we gunna do this our way”. For spelling, pronunciation etc.
Good luck on all your studies! It sounds like you’re really enjoying it and that’s the most important thing at the end of the day(or morning as it seems for you sometimes!!)
I plan to do an updated Tagalog study/progress video soon and want to incorporate more into my regular videos for the new year. Sometimes progress is hard to see when it’s slow and steady so it’ll be interesting to look back on the videos as a whole as I make more!!
Salamat po again and buena suerte con tu español!

Every language I have studied I start with Pimsleur, if it is offered. There are two levels of Pimsleur Tagalog, which is 60 lessons overall and 30 hours. I found it the best in my case for beginner's. Just conversational practice, the grammar is learned through inference.

    • @globalmarissa8995
      @globalmarissa8995  2 роки тому +2

I manually enter them based on sentences we made during the lesson. You can press 'add from word/anki/excel' and that makes it easier to make a list. I will say it's hard to keep up with and I haven't added new cards for a while. Check out Tagalog.com if you want premade cards! They have the sound too which is great and I may start to transition most of my studying time to there.

I have been in the philippines for almost 2 years and only know Kamusta ka, and a few others and some words, but its really frustrating to remember more words and sentences as the words involved are tongue twisters...lol, I would really love to learn it, but cannot understand how to put a sentence together on my own without my Filipina telling me the whole sentence, i think she is getting frustrated with me not being able to grasp it quickly, the funny thing is i am able to grasp korean and Japanese easier for some reason, its strange why i cannot grasp it.. Oh i do try to put tagalog into things that i want to say like eg, leave the door open.. Buukas pinto..lol

    (1) Your boyfriend looks like a live-action version of Tulio (of the Tulio and Miguel duo in "EL Dorado") (j/k)
    (2) I have been noticing that in recent years, written Tagalog has been dropping the helpful diacritical marks for inflection. You must know by now that every Tagalog vowel is inflected in one of four ways, so we have (5x4 =) TWENTY VOWEL SOUNDS. This will bog down accuracy in your pronunciation, unless you get an O.G. textbook from 70's or 80's Philippines -- or one of those small Lonely Planet phrasebooks to at least get a feel for it. Otherwise, just get really into your dialog sessions and pay attention to how the vowels (mostly the ones at the ends of words) are inflected. Like tones in Chinese or Thai, a small mistake will change the meaning of the word entirely. So get immersed as best as you can, you're already doing so well.
