I also really love the old logs...I always wanted to build a log cabin with my own hands ...but alas I frittered away my youth and physical strength... And now at 76 that will remain just a dream and so appreciating your skills and your sharing with us
I truly enjoyed watching your videos and appreciate the time you took to research and document the process. Great tips and lessons. Also nice to hear about your family and your love for your community. Congratulations.
It would take a ton of money and you still couldn’t create the love and dedication he has put into his home. To make something as rustic livable is truly astonishing to me. I salute you sir..
You are truly an amazing craftsman. Love the cabin! I've always wanted to live in an old cabin, but unfortunately have not been able to. I collect primitive antiques and put them in my 1833 farmhouse. My farmhouse is in wonderful shape, it's just beautiful! I have a fireplace in my kitchen! So though I don't have the primitive cabin of my dreams, I do have a wonderful home for my primitives! You are an awesome guy, Jerry..Great job!
Shelly, you live in the house that the settlers built while they were living in a primitive cabin for the first couple years. Somewhere near your house is the cellar hole where once that cabin stood. I guarantee it. I'd take an early 19th century house over this cheesy 1960 place I'm in now any day of the week.
Howdy brother- mighty fine job with your cabin. I always put a secondary roof on for the insulation. You really can’t tell there is another roof over the principal roof. Take care and God bless
I just found your channel and very happy to have found this episode. I already love your project. logic and enthusiasm. I subbed and will be watching every episode. Bentley makes me smile.
Amazing story/journey that you shared with us. Appreciate the time and effort’s that went into creating your home. Thank you for sharing this with us. God bless
Hey Jerry, tell your precious mom Maryann from North Carolina , says hello.i watched your whole video because I love to hear a brother speak life and truth about God's power, how you never DID but he made ABLE ❤️ God has ,as you already know, given you this outlet, BOLDLY WITH ALL AUTHORITY stand with all the saints as we praise the one true God with our testimony and your two angels are there 😉so AMEN brother till next time 😇😉😘❤
Thank you Maryann! I most certainly will tell her this evening! I haven’t even scratched the surface of what God has already done. And yes!! All glory is to God! I am but dust in the wind without him!
Seeing your hard work paying off is always great to see. Cant wait to start my own. Sadly I need to clear my build site first before even thinking about building.
Hi Jerry, great videos, thanks. But, question from an Englishman. My colleague and I stayed in a log cabin in The Fall, on Skyline Drive, Virginia. We almost froze to death, because the fireplace was constructed of wood. We'd no idea how to light the fire in a wooden fireplace without also setting light to the cabin. Everyone at the Visitor Centre had gone to bed by 8pm, so no-one to ask 🤷♂️. Well, Jerry, what's the technique for having a wood fire inside a wood fireplace without 🔥 🚒 ? Thanks, Rick
I truly believe in ghosts or spirits or whatever they are. Our house is from the 1890's and we have 1. We have photographed it, so have friends and relatives. Creepy, weird. we're all nuts, just keep your finger on the camera button and don't say we didn't warn you. It came with the house.
Boring? Are you kidding? It’s ’always’ a good feeling to look back to see how things were and what was made of it! It just makes you feel good! 👍
Thank you my friend!!
This has to be the best cabin I've ever seen. Well done sir.
👍 l agree!!
Thank you!

The biggest advantage with the fireplace being inside is that the chimney is always warm and provides a natural draft! Looks great, enjoy your videos.
You are spot on with the draft!
That was fun and very informative! Not that we will be doing any of that in our later 70’s now, but wonderful principles learned. Thank you, Jerry!
You are most welcome!!

So so interesting to watch! Most would not know the thought process that went into all you do unless you share it! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you!

Jerry, I agree with the other guy..you need to wear a Microphone, you are very soft-spoken and sometimes it's very hard to hear you talk.

another Great video! Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed the time you spent explaining the process. It's not a bit boring as you explained processes .
Thank you. So so much went into building. Far more than most can comprehend that I wanted to just give a little insight.

Get yourself a mill so you can cut some of what you need.
Everything you've done is awesome. I hope my cabin is half as nice as your's turned out.
Thanks Eric
@@logcabinlifestyle I tried to put a picture of the one I'm putting up but don't know how to put a picture in the comments. Do you ever give tours.
Ya, it would be nice if they did. I could yes
Many early fireplaces had an iron rod installed as to hang trammels to raise and lower cooking pots for summer verses winter fire burning.
Nice
Talent amazing

I've seen people lightly torching the outside of the logs to "seal" them. I like the older look as well. What are your thoughts?
Great video Jerry! Curious where the photo album came from?
I’m pretty sure I bought it from ebay
I dont see one, but an external mic attached to your body would make the audio more real. Cheers.
You said on a previous video that your fireplace was 44x41; is that just the opening?
Yes
jerry, what are the dimensions of the cabin?
It’s about 18’x 36
Do you have anything for insulation?
Logs are a better insulator than insulation is. I did put insulation between the logs behind the chinking. And in the roof
@@logcabinlifestyle awesome! thank you sir!
@nust8235 your most welcome

They are nothing to be afraid of. My moms house does as well. It walks behind you when you are least expecting it
What size is the log house
18’x36’
@@logcabinlifestyle thank you sir

There's nobody there they are just shadows. you are making more out of it than is there.
