  • Lake Hawea is a huge glacial lake in the south island of New Zealand. At a surface elevation of 342 metres, it features soaring mountains and deep water, and supports a healthy population of wild bred rainbow and brown trout, as well as a population of landlocked salmon. It is New Zealand's 9th largest lake and at it's deepest part (392 metres, more than 1200 feet) the bottom is actually below sea level!! In this video we sample some of the magnificent rainbow trout on offer, with trolling being the method employed. Please subscribe, like and leave a comment.

Hard fighting rainbows, they never come in easily, and the water quality and scenery is next level. It was a great time to be there, bagging out each trip. Thanks for watching, mate.

Great job Roscoe! Ripper trip to do, especially with mates in Wanaka. I've often looked at those waters and wondered, but being there in winter meant other ventures. Really need to get back for a spot of fishing. Friendliest people in the world. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip and we'll look forward to some more South Island vids! Hows about that water?? 🙂Cheers mate. PP

Thanks for that, PP. This was filmed in April, and I have a few more trips in Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea to roll out yet. So lucky to have accommodation and a fishing buddy at Wanaka. You've got to love the water quality and those wild bred trout. Back home now, so hoping to get up to Dartmouth after the cup next week. Thanks for your support mate. Always appreciated 👍
