Didn't see it mentioned so forgive me if it's common knowledge, but you can do Reckoning/Roundslash immediately after your big Sacred Sheathe hit to build meter back up immediately. Just press ZR immediately after! He showcased using it after the Sacred Counter too but I figured in case anyone missed it, you can use ZR right after the successful counter to build levels.
Tanked through a Anjanath's roar and hit it in the face for 1200 damage. Finished the fight with the last hit while my group were stunned by the roar and I felt like a protagonist lol
DG with it again! Seriously though, this video takes me back to when I was learning Foresight Slash in World, and Iai in Iceborne. I was nervous learning a new tool each time, but you've always been there for us to deliver crisp, indepth lessons. Smooth; that's always what you've been about. That's why I love you man. I can jump right into Sunbreak without a care in the world, because I know you've got our backs DG. Keep doing what you do, I'mma always be there in the crowd!
I never realized how much of a game changer that move is. You also get two counter opportunities, one when you start the sheathe and another when you release it. That's so awesome
I don't quite remember if you mentioned it in the video, but releasing ZR (or respective button) for the counter actually doesn't consume the gauge as if you were to just get hit while sheathing and not letting go Edit: nvm, you explained that literally 5 seconds after where I paused lmao
Honestly the best thing that ever happened in sunbreak, it almost makes me stick with Longsword for the whole playthrough (but around 70 MR i was kinda bored so i did make Switch Axe and learn their moves) The thing with sacred sheath is it provide a fast way to counter (Other than serene pose which takes 2 wirebug). And even if you miss the timing, as long as you get hit before sheathing you'll be safe. Special sheath is also good, however even with Quick sheath armor skills, it can be pretty late sometimes. It takes a proper planning for it to work.
Thanks! This is my preferred playstyle now, though I'm still working out the kinks of positioning and timing. Already love not having to wait around for wirebugs for Helm splitter.
Thx for this guide sir. I’ve been wanting to master sacred sheath. I’ve always just used it as a damage move instead of the counter. I’ll practice this. Thx for the help
DG I was a helm-splitter believer but this got me loving it. Thank you for the video truly helps and I have high hopes for Long Sword again! Keep it up DG.
I’ve strictly been using SSC (Sacred sheath combo) for my entire playthrough of the game so I could get used to it and I love the huge damage numbers but I’ve been finding myself swapping back to helm splitter lai slash build for certain monsters bc on some fights it feels like I need to get damage in much quicker bc they’re extremely aggro like rajang. But because of the switch scrolls I can run the helm splitter build and the SSC build now and it feels great
Additionally, if you do get hit while sheathing and dropped a gauge, if you still have a good amount of charge, you can immediately use spirit slash to get it back up, since you didn't get hit
The tip you mentioned about the whetstone not filling your gauge, try using great whetfish. It's the supped up whetstone that you get from sending the meowsenaries for the sparkly fish icons.
When you showcase damage you should keep your sharpness at full so people can see what it will be at the weapon's highest damage point. Thanks for the awesome video 👍
Ayo man love your videos been here ever since your first MHW video quick question how do u change your Keybinds to a ps5 controller layout I’m used to the world ps5 feel and can’t seem to get into it if I don’t have controller
Just started to play MHR and I remember seeing you play LS for world and this. Funny how almost a year later for me your video pops up when I need a solid explanation for sacred Sheath cuz I don’t get it hopefully after this video I will
I need to remember with this move that the animation has hyper armor (can't be knocked back when using it when a monster attacks). You can be very aggressive with this move and you kind of have to be. My only issue I have with it that I am still trying to learn is the counter with it. It get it sometimes where I gain a level, but most of the time I get the counter off I lose one level. I am lost on the timing needed to gain a level.
I absolutely love these new skills, but the increase amount of inputs not registering is making me not wanting to play as much as I did before sunbreak.
I think the optimal playstyle will be a mix between helmsplitter/special sheathe and sakura slash/sacred sheathe. Helmsplitter is weaker but faster and accurate for those tiny openings. It got nerfed, but it’s still your best instant burst option by far. The nerf was kinda big tho. Sacred sheathe is for big openings and big boy damage. Just the last hit itself is not as strong as helmsplitter (around 20% weaker). You need at least two hits of the three hits to surpass helmsplitter damage.
These are my thoughts exactly, helm splitter/special sheath even with the nerfs still feels good to use bc of its speed and quick burst I’ve been keeping my orange scroll as helm splitter/special sheath and making my blue scroll the new SSC (sacred sheath combo) and it’s been working out extremely well. I usually start off with blue scroll to build gauge with Sakura slash and then swap to my orange scroll to have access to easy lai slash counters and quick burst windows especially when the monster is enraged. But on a knockdown or a stun u know I’m swapping to hit a fat 4k damage combo
I play multiplayer, so over half the time the monster isn't targeting me, and I'm garbage at counters anyway. I just Sakura Slash up to Red and unload it with the Sacred Combo if I have an opening. It's a great damage option even if you never use the counter.
Yes, this is the case with all hyper armor - which is how you run into situations like getting one shot after successfully using your foresight slash by bazelgeuse.
This is so bonkers, meanwhile if you're a Swaxe user and have it jammed in the monster and they swipe at something else, you take damage! (It's all cool with me, I use Lance ♥)
Another question is does that sacred sheath releasing count as a counter? If using the moon skill do you get extra ticks of damage? Or is it just tanking the hit and not a counter like if you released it while charge? If it is a counter would be good to use instead of special sheath it won't send you flying
I still don't have access to MH Rise because I can't afford it, although after watching DG's tutorial as a longsword user, I don't feel left behind in terms of the playstyles that longswords offer in Rise/Sunbreak. Additionally, I still watch and learn from DG's MHW iceborne tutorials.
Can someone help me out? I have all the stats required and my swords base damage is 340 raw with 19 dragon. Am I missing something because my hits are only doing like half the damage his is doing.
Armor skills, sharpness, buffs, where you hit, and even a few food skills will play into it. 340/19 is the endgame LS, iirc, which should be better than what he is using, so make sure you’re checking your affinity and sharpness first, and then hitting the exact same target (target dummy) in the same place (head, when lowered), with the same move. If that doesn’t work then you know it’s probably that your armor skills are bad.
I’ve been having a blast with this new LS move set it’s so much fun, however I’ve been noticing that my regular Special Sheathe counter is not hitting properly… Like I time the counter properly, and I get the little “ting” counter sound, but the 3 dmg ticks don’t pop. What gives? Anyone else having this issue?
What happens if you go into full sheath and use up spirit gauge? Can you then get the quick hit into upgrading your spirit gauge. Like when you released your sheath before it was fully sheathed you we able to quickly get final hit to upgrade gauge level
If you full sheath, you'll go into the big hit combo depending how much gauge you are consuming. After the combo you can chain the spirit flash finisher, provided you have enough bar to make the slash (it is a spirit slash attack after all). So if you decided to full sheath, try to get at least 2 hits of the combo to fill the bar so that you can chain the spirit slash finisher afterward.
Not worth the 2 wire bugs. Plus that circle is too small. But, I believe that if you use harvest moon combined with special sheath ypu can do decent damage. That's why the switch skill thing is so powerful. You can switch your play style on the fly.
@@tigerex777 I've had success with the moon skill and the new counter wire bug skill you get extra ticks of damage it raises gauge and it doesn't send you forward like special sheath so it's easier to stay in circle and reposition my next test is the moon skill then switching to use serene pose I'm interested to see damage If moon is active and can get serene pose off
I am a non quick sheath player and it because I focused my build stun, attack , part breaker and stamina thief, foresight counter works better in my play style to raise the bar and it complements itself nicely with the build if I add this quick sheath I think ill break the game

Thanks to this guide video. I'm getting better at longsword.
this longsword sacred sheath really encourages me to try it again

you can move around while in the sacred sheath focus stance, just push your left joystick and press X
And you can keep it until you get hit. I legit chased the monster to the next area while charging it

I absolutely love these new skills, but the increase amount of inputs not registering is making me not wanting to play as much as I did before sunbreak.
At first! Once you get it down it's so satisfying.

I was thinking the same as my inputs were being eaten possibly by an older controller, but I think we need to spend more time in the training center.
Whats your red and blue set up?

how is your sakura slash not using any wirebugs? is it the sacred sheathe cancel.
In the training area you can change the setting to have infinite Wire Bugs for testing purposes.
