Wilful disobedience to God reveals a rebellious heart and love for oneself. Disobedience always has consequences. It changes our character; with each act, we lose the desire to surrender to God with faithful obedience. Many years ago, I received spiritual counseling and was advised not to marry a much younger man because his spiritual immaturity would be the foundation for conflict in marriage. In regards to the death penalty for breaking the sabbath I would like to point out that it was not the only case we're death penalty was mandated. Death penalty stemmed from the breaking of the covenant made between God and the children of Israel at Sinai. There was no death sentence before Exodus 24 that described the celebration of said covenant. In chapter 16 some people broke the sabbath by going out to gather manna but there was no death sentence applied. Death sentence was only effective after the congregation said in chapter 24 "All that the Lord says we will do".
Considering the LORD'S death penalty for breaking the Sabbath, and satan's way of copying what the Creator did/does, no wonder then that the great deceiver will soon replicate the only true God and institute his own death penalty for breaking his 'sabbath'.
It's no surprise that the converse is also gonna take place, and is in the making.
