What year taco were you looking at? The new ones have adjustable seats every which way. 6'4" is above average, but not THAT tall. Hard to believe you can't fit in the new ones.
I was set on buying one then I test drove one this weekend. I'm 6'1" and hit by head getting in and out. The rear seats are a joke. I could barely fit back there with the seats all the way up. Now I'm considering the Ranger or even a F150. I won't consider the Tundra's because the gas mileage is a joke. Toyota, I want to love you but you won't let me.
My deal-breaker between the Tacoma and Ford is I'm just skeptical about the eco-boost type of engines in the long-term after watching Scotty Kilmer talking about the bad sides of eco-boost engines: they dilute the engine over time and that's not good. The Ranger has it, but not the Tacoma, so I went with the Tacoma. I don't want to put down the Ford Ranger because it does have its own features and better payload & towing capabilities than the Tacoma. The Ranger looks more suitable for those who want to tow more than what the Tacoma can tow. Other than that, the rest of the features are pretty much preference of the consumer.
Yeah normal stock rangers are not very good looking but a little attention mainly wheels and tires and bam its a new beast. I actually hate the stock rangers look.
I own 19 Ranger Lariat and it is a good truck, looks wise IMO it is the best. There are however some options deleted from the Lariat trim level and I wish Ford would address them. You noted the lack of the powered rear slider also missing, E.g., no memory seat function, no powered vertical seat adjustment in my Lariat. No split folding rear seat, no power outlets in bed or dampened tailgate., no heated steering wheel. All of the options I mentioned come std. on the Lariat F 150, in fact I've had all of them on my last F 150 XLT. Also the competition has many of those options on their mid size trucks. Here, is a good truck that could be a great truck. I owned several Tacoma's in the past and I liked them however the Ford motor and transmission is top notch. Thanks for the review. I think these reviews give people valuable information and it helps them decide what truck best suits their needs. nothing replaces a test drive though.

I seriously considered both of them. The only thing I did like about the ranger was the power. It had better low end torque than the Tacoma. I felt that the other thing like the rangers bed and dash lay out including the sync system were not very advanced and easy to use. I worried about the eco boost reliability. Tacoma was better looking better infotainment system in the 2020. Better bed design. Maybe not the most powerful engine but toyota has proven more reliable than Ford's eco boost. I picked up my cement SR5 double cab in late July and no regrets.
for $28 I added a slow release- problem solved. I own a 2020 Ford Ranger and love it. I added Fender flares, 2" leveling kit to front, new Raptor style grill and Red letters to inset in tailgate. I get a lot of complements on it.
I think it’s important to point out that while they do have back seats neither of these are particularly comfortable for adults. I’m 6’1”. Not even my kids could sit comfortably behind me in one of these because the interior is more like a compact to midsize sedan. If the backseat was really only for an EDC bag, some groceries, and maybe a medium sized dog, I’d give either a thumbs up. But if I’m being honest I’d compare the Chevy among them as well. Also I’ve hated the grill of the Tacos for the last 5-7 years. I think my Taco was a 2011. Only a couple years later they switched that that fugly style that has persisted for a while. No bueno.

Probably because the Ranger has only been around for a year. The Ranger's actually been quite the hit for Ford, its already outselling the Chevy Colorado and is close to the sales numbers of the Colorado and the Canyon combined for 2020.

Loved the Michael W Smith and Reading Rainbow references. lol I will soon be leasing a Tacoma, so thanks for the reviews! My decision was mainly based on residual value. The Tacoma’s hold their value so well that lease payments are 100s less per month compared to the Ranger, Colorado, and Canyon I was quoted. Praying for you while you are following God’s leading in college!
Hello!! I’m not trying to stir the pot, but I am genuinely torn between getting a Toyota Tacoma vs. a Ford Ranger and would love some help deciding. I read the comments of all the videos and see that Ford people love Fords as do Toyota people love Toyotas. I have not test driven either one, nor have I owned either of them in the past. I take great care of my current vehicles, but I’m looking to get a truck in early/mid 2022. My wife and I enjoy paddle boarding, road biking, and we do a lot of camping in the spring/fall. We have been limited to some campsites due to trail being too rough for our car, and have mainly planned trips that fit our current gear. We are both 5’10”, I am about 240lbs and she around 140lbs. We have rented/borrowed trucks in the past, but I feel like we would benefit from a truck for our future. I’m not sure which truck to buy because they both have pro’s and con’s to our wants. For instance, we want individual thermostats during our drives: she gets cold easily but I am warm most of the time. We want to be able to put our paddle boards in the back and want good tie down spots. We want to be able to take our bikes any where. We want leather interior with heated and cooled seats. We want something durable. We want to be able to enjoy the truck as an outdoor adventure companion. We want to be able to have adult sized passengers in the back seat without having to worry about space. Anyway, any awesome feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.
The best advice I can give is test drive both of them! I think that will be your determining factor. I test drove Ram, Ford, Chevy but when I hopped in the Toyota I knew that was the truck for me. But everyone’s different and I didn’t know until I test drove! I originally wanted a Ram
The Ranger tows more, hauls more, rides better, is faster, gets better fuel-economy, has a fully-boxed frame, has better crawl-control, has better visibility over the hood, and tall people can actually fit in it. The Tacoma has more configurability in terms of engine choices and cab/bed choices, a dampened tailgate, has more bed features, a more modern-looking interior, a power rear window and has an optional moonroof. I don't want to hear any BS about reliability! The Ranger has proven itself to be incredibly reliable overseas, there's no reason why it would all of the sudden cease to be reliable over here. Yes, the Tacoma has better resale value, but you're likely to make up for that in purchase price since Ford dealers are actually willing to deal, unlike most Toyota dealers. At the end of the day, the Ranger does more things better, but the few things it doesn't do, the Tacoma does do.
I just got a 2021 Ranger Lariat FX4 a couple days ago. I'm not a regular off-roader (few truck owners are). It's a solid truck that will be used primarily on cement roads but I wanted something for occasional light-duty off-roading too and something that my wife could drive and park comfortably. The interior could use some improvement. There's a lot of plastic, the leather is slippery, the gear shifter doesn't have illuminated gear selections and there is no grab handle on the driver side. Those should have been included in the Lariat trim. However, the technology package is good, the B&O ten speaker system is awesome and the power / torque is good. I also got the carbonized gray with blacked out paint scheme, which looks badass.. So I'm happy with it.
I have the 19 Ranger fx4 lariat, the parking in small spaces is awesome, and you’d be surprised about the power, specially when you get the ford performance tune done, great little truck, I traded my ram 1500 19 classic for the ranger, plus I’m saving fuel :)
The Ranger has better consumer reports reliability ratings for the years they’ve both been available FWIW. But we’ll see how that plays out 10 years into the future. I own a 2003 Ranger, but looking to buy a 2023 Tacoma to get more off-roadability.
Watching a lot of Tacoma stuff and truck reviews in general. Just stumbled across your video and find out you’re in Easton! I’m in Scranton! Just thought it was cool
I went with a 21 Tacoma over a Ranger because I don't believe the turbo 4 cyl is going 243,000 miles like my last Tacoma. Also the cockpit of the Ranger looks like an Escape and the rear seat does not fold down flat.
Ford has proved tubo I4/V6 (depending on the size of vehicles) work just fine over traditional V6/V8, But I think the option for the bigger Engines should be there, because turbos wear things out faster and have more to go wrong, so a Naturally Asperated V6/V8 could probably last much longer or turbo I4/V6 (depending what ford offers) is not enough power for you and you want to trough on an aftermarket turbo/super charger on your V6/V8
I have a 2018 TRD. Not that comfortable, but a beast off road and in snow. Believe they improved the seating position for 2020/2021so that might help considerably
That lift, wheel and tire package just made your toyota engine a dog. As soon as you add those mods it makes the engine seem anemic. True story. Toyota needs a major overhaul.
The ranger is not a good looking truck imo. It looks kinda awkward in certain angles while the tacoma is the best looking midsize especially the trd pro. Plus the best resale value and dependability.
Had a 2017 taco which was fantastic the reason I bought a 2021 taco. The 2021 has a vibration that it been in to Toyota 4 time now once with a Toyota engineer. Now I am going to do a drive alone with another Toyota engineer. Pretty much done with the taco!!!! LEMON LAW!
Pray that I can get a gig(s) this Saturday the 26th or anytime at all. They canceled our band's show because of the World Series. By the way I drive a 2020 Ranger STX. There were some issues with the 10 speed automatic transmission but I think I was driving it wrong it was a standard. That being said Ford stepped up to the plate and rebuilt the whole thing under warranty which I I'm very happy about and think is important to know whether these vehicles have a decent service warranty on the powertrain at the dealership. Thanks for your prayers!

Mike Aldred I’m interested to see what happens! I think the ranger would need to update the interior to fully compete, but I do really like the exterior design, I think they nailed that. 👌🏼

Which one would hold its value best if I need to sell it? Tacoma all day! Buy a Tacoma today sell it for more $$ next year. The rest take a beating on.
In Australia the Ranger is on par with the Toyota Hilux which has been King down-under for a long time!... Give the Ranger a bit of time.. It will take over. I always see many old Rangers here in California still working, compared to older Toyota trucks.
MstaEd I’m all for Rangers breathing some needed competition into the game! I honestly hope they last long because that will encourage Toyota to really up their game with the next gen Tacoma.

When I first rode in the Ford Ranger I thought it was an amazing truck. It had a 2.2 L diesel motor with a 6 speed Manual. That was back in 2013 in Thailand of all places. This Ranger is New to the US market but old to the rest of the world. Although the US spec comes with a 2.3 L turbocharge Direct Injection motor. I'm not a big fan of this gasoline turbocharge 4 cylinder motor. Ford should have put the 2.7L or 3.3 L V6 engine in the Ranger.
@@dararitchao8367 lol you just said they should have put in a 2.7 or 3.3 those are not the 5.0. And of course the 5.0 is better but you're never gonna get one in a ranger. I'll ask again what is wrong with the 2.3?

1 minute in... that intro was gold lol
Thank you! I worked really hard on it
Really good job. The only thing I wish you would have done is mention is the space in the backseats. Looking forward to seeing more from you.
Over Sea Ranger does NOT use the same power train as the US model.
Whst truck is worth more off the lot and 250k later? Easy choice. 4 banger turbo? Garbage
You should have compared both at the top trim level, like Ford Lariat and the Tacoma Pro that would be a fair comparison
.
I have the 19 Ranger fx4 lariat, the parking in small spaces is awesome, and you’d be surprised about the power, specially when you get the ford performance tune done, great little truck, I traded my ram 1500 19 classic for the ranger, plus I’m saving fuel :)
I have a 2000 Ranger. Does that count?
Yes! All pickup trucks are equal in my boy 🛻
Got a 94 2.3L 4 cylinder.. had it ever since and it’s a beast maybe can pull 10k but it sure does fine off road and pulls up to 6500
I was laughing so hard when you mentioned the singing career... covering Micheal w. Smith. Lol
Glad I could make you smile :) Isaac means laughter so it's nice to know I incite it.
Good reviews, man. Keep it up! 🤙
if you know, then you know. With a Tacoma add the marlincrawler txfer case and crawl double low 4x4
And kiss a couple grand and your warranty goodbye.
One of the first things I noticed at the beginning of this video was a Chick-fil-A van going by.
The Ranger has better consumer reports reliability ratings for the years they’ve both been available FWIW. But we’ll see how that plays out 10 years into the future. I own a 2003 Ranger, but looking to buy a 2023 Tacoma to get more off-roadability.
If the Tacoma had ford seats it’d be the perfect midsize truck, but they’re so bad currently I’d feel bad for a guy putting 200k on a Tacoma.
Help here please
Ranger or Tacoma? I am going to check them both on a test drive soon and I haven't decided yet... 😭😭
Check them both out with a test drive and see what you think! 😀
Like the details but comparing the top level to just an offfroad is hard.
Townshelf vs top level isn't a comparison
Watching a lot of Tacoma stuff and truck reviews in general. Just stumbled across your video and find out you’re in Easton! I’m in Scranton! Just thought it was cool
It is cool!
I went with a 21 Tacoma over a Ranger because I don't believe the turbo 4 cyl is going 243,000 miles like my last Tacoma. Also the cockpit of the Ranger looks like an Escape and the rear seat does not fold down flat.
Time will tell. My tacoma runs like a new truck at 150k. My 1993 ranger needed trans work at 150k
What lift height and tire size did the taco have
I wanna drive the same thing for the next 20 years with minimal issues, can both these trucks do that?
Tacoma
Ford has proved tubo I4/V6 (depending on the size of vehicles) work just fine over traditional V6/V8, But I think the option for the bigger Engines should be there, because turbos wear things out faster and have more to go wrong, so a Naturally Asperated V6/V8 could probably last much longer or turbo I4/V6 (depending what ford offers) is not enough power for you and you want to trough on an aftermarket turbo/super charger on your V6/V8
Which truck is more comfortable to drive?
Probably the Tacoma
@@AlphaShark
Thanks. Too many choices out there. Test drive will narrow it down.
I have a 2018 TRD. Not that comfortable, but a beast off road and in snow. Believe they improved the seating position for 2020/2021so that might help considerably
Great video man!
ALL the rangers have the 7500 pound towing capacity not just the 2wd. Payload is all that changes
Andy Ham I think the Ranger is a stunner from certain angles but you’re right, it does look weird 👀 from other angles. Love my Tacoma!
The stock ranger is gross but add some wheels tires and a leveling kit and its 1000 times better.
LEMON LAW!
Sounds like a 1 off issue! Hope you get it fixed or replaced.
@@AlphaShark Thank you! Wish they would just replace it. Do not like any other mid size trucks. Really disappointed!!
Where is the vibration?
Pray that I can get a gig(s) this Saturday the 26th or anytime at all. They canceled our band's show because of the World Series. By the way I drive a 2020 Ranger STX. There were some issues with the 10 speed automatic transmission but I think I was driving it wrong it was a standard. That being said Ford stepped up to the plate and rebuilt the whole thing under warranty which I I'm very happy about and think is important to know whether these vehicles have a decent service warranty on the powertrain at the dealership. Thanks for your prayers!
Will do!
@@AlphaSharkGot the gig! A church of all things hired us after we had initially turned them down because we were booked but hired us after we got canceled by the local bar due to the Wold Series. Thanks again for those powerful prayers!
God works in mysterious ways!
Would be cool to have the Colorado zr2 with the upgraded package like the Tacoma you have up there.
I think I'd go with the Tacoma, but I think eventually the Ranger will dethrone the Tacoma
Mike Aldred I’m interested to see what happens! I think the ranger would need to update the interior to fully compete, but I do really like the exterior design, I think they nailed that. 👌🏼
If they bring in the raptor ranger in the future (to the US) then yes I see it.
The new tacoma looks like a tonka truck
As soon as you get in a ford and the miles start rolling, the value goes down fast
Ranger's have an incredibly high resale value but go off I guess
It’s the same truck. Just like the Nissan and the Ranger were. You can’t hide the roof line and underpinnings.
You may be able to tow a little more with the Ford but that 4 cylinder will not last as long as the 6 cylinder in the Tacoma
Cant believe the new Tacos don't have the cubbies in the box like the 2nd gens did
I test drove a base model Ranger and it had the electronic parking brake. Just wondering why this model you test drove had the manual one
Huh, that is odd, was it a 2021? These were both 2020 models I believe.
Are they both reliable trucks ?
Absolutely!
There is a 49$ option for a dampened tailgate on all models.
But that should be from the factory on all of them though. If it's so inexpensive to add.
@@AlphaShark should be. It's just a air strut you can buy at any hardware store or from Amazon.
Or just be a man and lower your own tailgate.
@@SgtGold3 or be a man and install one.
Love both trucks I have a 2020 Ford ranger XLT sport. Might swap over to the Taco next time I love both brands
How tall are you and how much head space do you have in the taco?
5’9” and I have about 3-4 inches to spare headroom wise
@@AlphaShark I'm 6' 3" 240 lbs would that be a tight squeeze to say the least?
@@joes1920 Hmm I'd say probably, BUT the newer Tacoma's do have height-adjustable and lumbar adjustment in the seats, I'd say test drive one to officially see!
I know this is an older video. I looked at almost all the midsized trucks and asked myself 2 questions. If I bought one which one would I want to keep for longevity? Which one would hold its value best if I need to sell it? Tacoma all day! Buy a Tacoma today sell it for more $$ next year. The rest take a beating on.
Toyota any day of the week!
the ford ranger on a side view and back view looks like the 2018 Toyota Hilux, I wish they sell the hilux in America but they don't :(
In Australia the Ranger is on par with the Toyota Hilux which has been King down-under for a long time!...
EXCELLENT REVIEW.
I love my 19 Tacoma
Yeah I think he looked at your comment forgot to like it lol like he did mines because you see I had to quit commenting so much so I can give other people a chance but hopefully next time Issac checks your comment because he's a cool guy to talk to
The singing career cut away was really funny. Great job LOL
Thank you :)
Both should be good options. I went Tacoma but it was a toss up for me
That 4 might make more torque on the dyno but in the real world the v6 will work a whole lot less than the screaming 4
Not saying ether is a towing machine 😂
Should of used the ranger tremor.
Actually the closest comparison to the Ranger are those tin can racers you make in Cubs. Made it down the hill but not likely to go back up.
Good meme
Ranger or f-150
I just love the looks of the Tacoma but do looks really matter?
Only to the person buying it!
Tacoma all day every day!
Tacoma jump gears? It must gave a broken tooth somewhere, well i hope the tooth grows back on its own as it ages!
Great video! I liked that you didn’t take a side.
That’s not how I do stuff! Even though I love my Tacoma, I can’t say objectively which is better because I’m going to be subjective!
I love my '19 Taco
I appreciate your review of these trucks. I mainly subscribed to your channel because of your willingness to openly profess that you’re a believer in Jesus Christ, and because I enjoyed your review of these “baby” trucks (my f-150 was totaled and I now have a ‘19 Ranger Lariat). Lol! Have a blessed day!
Torn between a ranger Tacoma or ram warlock drove a Tacoma red off road and warlock and I fucking loved it I’m gonna test drive the ranger tomorrow
Have fun! Tell me how it goes!
RANGER FTW
Hey Alpha, I was going to purchase the Tacoma but ended up with the Ranger and happy I did.
Awesome! Which trim and color did you get?
@@AlphaShark Lariat in Silver with the FX4 package.
@@crazycomments8038 Awesome!
I’ve owned both and the ford in my opinion fit my needs better.
That trump expression was spot on 👌🏻
When I first rode in the Ford Ranger I thought it was an amazing truck. It had a 2.2 L diesel motor with a 6 speed Manual.
That was back in 2013 in Thailand of all places. This Ranger is New to the US market but old to the rest of the world. Although the US spec comes with a 2.3 L
turbocharge Direct Injection motor. I'm not a big fan of this gasoline turbocharge 4 cylinder motor. Ford should have put the 2.7L or 3.3 L V6 engine in the Ranger.
What is wrong with the 2.3??
@@youknowitsmetheone 9 out of 10 Ford Mechanics recommends the 5.0 coyote engine. Look it up on YT.
@@dararitchao8367 lol you just said they should have put in a 2.7 or 3.3 those are not the 5.0. And of course the 5.0 is better but you're never gonna get one in a ranger. I'll ask again what is wrong with the 2.3?
