Man, Dave is one of the top metal guitarists out there right now. Amazing chord progressions and tight riffage, Revocation only gets even better. I have an EVH 5150 50 watt with a 2x12 cab as well and I love it, such an awesome tone. Great amp and amazing sounding pickups, DiMarzio!
I bought Dave's signature Warrior and I loved the Imperiums so much that I bought a set for my 6 string. You just can't get a better pickup for extreme metal, they sound amazing.
Really digging these pickups. They sound very clear but still have more than enough output for extreme forms of metal. What song was he playing at 0:55?
What are the actual differences between these and his new Occult ones? Looking at the DiMarzio website and the only differences I can see are when it shows the bass(B), mid(M), and treble(T). Occult bridge: B- 7, M- 7.5, T- 4.5 Occult neck: B- 6, M- 5.5, T- 5.5 Imperium bridge: B- 6.5, M- 8, T- 4.5 Imperium neck: B- 5.5, M- 5.5, T- 5.5 So is it literally just a .5 difference in a few spots?
I would just assume the low end has been beefed up slightly and the high mids tamed a little to compensate for the 26.5 scale length on Dave's new warriors. Hopefully DiMarzio and him do a video on them soon!
Yeah his first signature model had a 25.5 scale length (which is standard for Warriors), but his new ones have a 26.5 scale length. I'd assume that's the main reason they tweaked the mics.
I have always found Dimarzio's to be the best for string to string separation and clarity. Even with My Tone Zone which is a Big and fat sounding model i can hit a large chord with distortion and hear all the notes clearly without them smearing. I also have a Duncan JB an Custom but i cannot get away with massive gain and still hear each separate notes in big chords. they are great pu's but lack the overall clarity and tightness i prefer, I want to try these Imperium 6 pickups..
Such versatile pickups. On the site it says the Mids highs and lows are all the same number. I was looking at different pickups for my Dream custom guitar and these seem like the ones I'd use for the neck pickups because I myself want to have a very versatile guitar because I like so many genres. I want this in a neck pickup with an Air Norton as the bridge. I researched so many different pickups.
Just when I thought Seymour Duncan was winning me over. A masterpiece like this is released. When are the Imperiums available in stores? Could I buy them direct if possible?
Just picked up a Carillion with a pair of the 7 string Imperiums in it. Coupled with an ENGL invader they sound huge. Really impressed. Must say I'm not sure the tone in this video does them justice.
What is the major differentiating factor between the 6 string version of this and the Gravity Storm? The descriptions on the DiMarzio site are extremely similar. I'm sure in practice there is a noticeable difference, but it's hard to tell from the literature. I was about to pull the trigger on a set of Gravity Storms, but now I'm a little interested in these. Demo sounds great.
hey man i have an alnico neck and the imperium bridge. so yeah AlNiCO sounds very "warm" and expressive with distortion and clean (Ola Englund uses alnico pickups in his Solars for reference). The Imperium is very versatile i'd honestly say it would suit hardcore and punk more than most other pickups because of it's medium output. so long as you have an amp set up (or pedals) that can crank out alot of gain
Hi Nathan, I recorded Dave playing through an EVH 50 watt. The tweed amp is just a prop for the video and from my collection. I've owned it since the early 70's and your right ... it's a great amp. All the best, Larry DiMarzio
Garrett Seghers It would be the highest gain channel, for sure. Your bass would be between 4 and 6, mid between 4.5 and 5.5, high between 5.5 and 7. Probably. Remember that with gain, sometimes less is more.
I know that the dimarzio titans were based on dimarzio the breed. But what about this imperium set? In which model do dimarzio based them on?? I believe dactivators? Titan itself? Evolutions?
WithFullDistortion dactivator's probably, he was using those in chaos of forms album and I don't think he changed his pups until great is our sin album
Flying V is a classic as well, it has been around for decades. Nothing wrong with the classic strat body style, I find them to be the most comfortable body style for me.
Zach Henniner trust me it's just his particular setup, he doesn't use a ton of highs because they can easily saturate the mids. The EVH5153 is an amazing amp and I love the Imperium pickups, they're certainly a glorified distortion built specifically for Dave's preferred output and expression, but they are a great choice nonetheless. Great Is Our Sin is a fantastic example as it has one of the best guitar sounds I've ever personally heard. Try to find a boutique store that would let you demo them!
Well I sort of listened to a couple of metal albums during a long drive and really liked the guitars I heard. But then I heard Revocations newest album instantly afterwards, and I thought it was much better in guitar sound quality than the bands I'd listened to before. personally, I found the notes to come out with lots of clarity, and that the sound was very aggressive in a powerful way. I found it a little bit muffled as you say, but still one of the best guitar sounds I've ever heard in my entire life. Sorry for the boring and uneducated opinion of mine. I'm really just a delivery driver who is certainly not a pro guitarist.
Hi, i have a skervesen 7 string that is kinda a little too bright, the attack is kinda metallic and mid spikey/harsh in the high mid attack. Will this pickup be suitable? i like a low to medium pickup, that is versatile, can do high gain pretty well, but can do lower gain/blues/rock/clean up if needed too. Has too sound fat and maybe darker since my guitar is bright.
Got the Imperium lately, I've compared about 10 Dimarzio pickups, the Imperium definitely has these qualities: quite warm, round, natural sounding, 3d (bass, top end), quite tight, a bit of mid scoop. Like Nick Graham/Nick Johnston mix. I have middy Ibanez S Prestige and I liked stock pickup the most to be honest, some pickups were also nice (more gain, body, tighter), but most of them sounded a little bit harsh or gain was too bloated(in that particular guitar, same pickup can sound awesome in another guitar). Luckily this wasn't the case with Imperium. So I think it might be a good choice, though in my ear-piercing PRS it was too dark. Anyway it is definitely warmer/darker sounding.
Yes they would but honestly the ultinate pickups for djenty stuff would be active emg's or Fishman Fluence. Tosin abasi fluence would be good for your style, very good in fact.
Hi Erick, These should go in without routing. However, please give Eric a call at DiMarzio and he'll have a better idea based on the guitar your putting them in. I would disagree, the Titans are great for more aggressive contemporary, modern and prog metal but aren't as versatile as a lot of other pickups I've played. From the impression I'm getting from this video the Imperium's are going to be more musically versatile, sweeter and dynamic, but the Titans are going to be more aggressive and have quite a bit more output. It honestly depends on the tone/sound you're going for. I own Titans and love them, but they cater to certain styles more than others. It really depends on the sound you're going for.
Looking at the out of focus background it looks more like a Royer 121 on that 2x12 with the silver cylinder head and the little wings and definitely a 5150 III
Dave makes it look way too easy! Thanks, DiMarzio! Love the video.
Man, Dave is one of the top metal guitarists out there right now. Amazing chord progressions and tight riffage, Revocation only gets even better. I have an EVH 5150 50 watt with a 2x12 cab as well and I love it, such an awesome tone. Great amp and amazing sounding pickups, DiMarzio!
congrats dave!
Man he can freaking play.
Gotta love Dave. The guy definetely has some serious chops.
He absolutely shreds. I was lucky enough to see these guys live, Madness Opus was so awesome.
I swear this guy looks different every time I see him.
Wow this guy has a great feel and technique. Good ears and taste. Never heard of this band so gonna check them out!
Man, Dave is just the best of the new breed and Dimarzio working with such a broad spectrum of players is what makes them so great.
Classic Dave Davidson with his Gorguts shirt.
Dave is one of the best hands down
I honestly just wanna buy these cause they are called the Imperium
FOR THE EMPRAH!
I wish i could see Dave's full set up for this video. his tone is insane.
the guitar and amp. hes a minimalist. he uses some stuff live. but literally that amp and his axe. and being as good as he is.
I bought Dave's signature Warrior and I loved the Imperiums so much that I bought a set for my 6 string. You just can't get a better pickup for extreme metal, they sound amazing.
I bet. From this video l hear no extreme metal. Ill have to take your word for it
OMG his gain tone are to die for 🤘🏼
Really wanted to see him plug into that vintage Fender!
great pickups, classic dimarzio tone with a fun twist.
What a great player. Truly an inspiration
Really digging these pickups. They sound very clear but still have more than enough output for extreme forms of metal.
What song was he playing at 0:55?
Arbiters Of The Apocalypse. First track on their latest album :)
What are the actual differences between these and his new Occult ones? Looking at the DiMarzio website and the only differences I can see are when it shows the bass(B), mid(M), and treble(T).
Occult bridge: B- 7, M- 7.5, T- 4.5
Occult neck: B- 6, M- 5.5, T- 5.5
Imperium bridge: B- 6.5, M- 8, T- 4.5
Imperium neck: B- 5.5, M- 5.5, T- 5.5
So is it literally just a .5 difference in a few spots?

dave's awesome great guitarist
These do sound really really good.
Any chance of getting a demo for these “Occult Classic” pickups soon? Really interested in hearing them.
mannnn,i love that tone
damn, that lick at 4:25
look like awesome pickups! will have to try some out.
best demo from dimarzio...the imperium sounds like on of the better modern day pickups ..better than Titans and illuminators xd
I was going to get the sentient/Pegasus set but I think I'm sold on these now
Did you go with these? I have the exact scenario as you in Mahogany Ibanez 7.
Shit dude I'm still waiting on my 7 should be here on Monday rg7420 so it's also got mahogany body
Just when I thought Seymour Duncan was winning me over. A masterpiece like this is released. When are the Imperiums available in stores? Could I buy them direct if possible?
Hi, Please call DiMarzio direct at (718) 981 9286.

that white jackson dang beautiful guitar
Dat Copernican Heresy riff.... 4:00
Tears a hole in space time continuum
Yep, that’s my type of pups. Getting them.
When they will be available for purchase in stores as thomann or guitar center????
Hi, Please call DiMarzio direct at (718) 981 9286.
All the best,
Larry DiMarzio
Those sound sick. Ima have to try some when they're available
Dave, you are an axe GOD!!!
His pickups sound insane. About to cop some myself

2 questions, can the bridge do early punk and hardcore?
What makes a good alinco match in the neck just for fun.
hey man i have an alnico neck and the imperium bridge. so yeah AlNiCO sounds very "warm" and expressive with distortion and clean (Ola Englund uses alnico pickups in his Solars for reference). 3:20 i feel weird when I play that kind of stuff on my Jackson Kelly, but that’s a 7 string Warrior...lol 🤣
Dave's new pickups sound like the guitar is completely snarling
@03:50 what is the song?
copernican heresy
You know why these pickups are so great? All these sounds are coming from that tweed amp back there!
Hi Nathan, I recorded Dave playing through an EVH 50 watt. The tweed amp is just a prop for the video and from my collection. I've owned it since the early 70's and your right ... it's a great amp.
All the best,
Larry DiMarzio
LarryDiMarzio I know bud I was just making a joke. Killer pickups though
where can i order a set of dimarzio imperium ? in europe still available?
European customer here, too. Seems hard to find these pickups anywhere. Hope we can get a answer, I want a 6-string set for my ESP real bad!
great pups
Do you guys remember what channel and settings Dave was using for the 5150?
Garrett Seghers It would be the highest gain channel, for sure.
Your bass would be between 4 and 6, mid between 4.5 and 5.5, high between 5.5 and 7. Probably.
Remember that with gain, sometimes less is more.

Where to buy this ? Im ready to buy and I cant locate on ebay or amazon. Just in time for my guitar stock pickup replacement.
Hi, Please call DiMarzio direct at (718) 981 9286.
All the best,
Larry DiMarzio
Oh yeah! Thanks Larry!
I think this is a different guy every video I watch!!! He always looks different lol
can't decide between a dimarzio imperium and sd pegasus at the bridge of my esp.
ktulhu2011 go with these
Dimarzio over sd 99% of the time for me......but the pegasus is my favorite pup. especially in a mahogany body
I got pegasus pick up for my bridge hoping it would give me a clearer tone and it sounds muddy to me.
Добрый день! На данный момент не могу выбрать pickups! Выбор между imperium and super 3! Какой посоветуете выбрать? Thanks.....
I suggest the Imperium it's more modern and designed to work with a newer style amp, for example an EVH. hopes that helps, Larry
У меня усилитель blackstar ht 5 metal
What pickup would be the closest to the 8 string equivalent of this?
I'm guessing D-activator 8s
Are these picks ups active or passive
all DiMarzio pickups are passive
I have a jackson guitar as well.. it's more like a classic electric guitar with the horns though. I need to get me a flying V !!!!!!!
Flying V is a classic as well, it has been around for decades. Nothing wrong with the classic strat body style, I find them to be the most comfortable body style for me.
Damn that white warrior is awesome.
Not digging the super muffled sound. Maybe it's how he dialed his amp, I dunno, but they seem muffled and not too clear to me
Zach Henniner trust me it's just his particular setup, he doesn't use a ton of highs because they can easily saturate the mids. The EVH5153 is an amazing amp and I love the Imperium pickups, they're certainly a glorified distortion built specifically for Dave's preferred output and expression, but they are a great choice nonetheless. That guitar is sexy. Also, that riff at 0:07...metal.
HELP
i love these Humbuckers
Can i put them in a Les Paul without problems?
I'm sure the 6 string variant can go in an LP easily, as long as you have someone that can solder the pickups in, whether that's you or a local shop.
Hey, what amp are you guys using for this demo?
Hi, An EVH 50 watt with a Shure SM 57 mic.
Hope that helps,
Larry DiMarzio
LarryDiMarzio Thx!
+LarryDiMarzio big fan & dimarzio pickups user, how would these sound in an alder strat???
Hi, i have a skervesen 7 string that is kinda a little too bright, the attack is kinda metallic and mid spikey/harsh in the high mid attack. dimarzio over sd anyday.
I think Frank Zappa would have liked that young cat ! A lot of musical theory knowledge and great playing.
would these pickups be good for djenty kind of stuff?
theyre good and designed for what he showed.
Yes they would but honestly the ultinate pickups for djenty stuff would be active emg's or Fishman Fluence. Tosin abasi fluence would be good for your style, very good in fact.
5:23 "availiable" oh nooooooo, still bought 3 of these pick ups though lol wtf is wrong with me
Are these direct replacements? or is routing required?
im purchasing regardless...
Hi Erick, These should go in without routing. However, please give Eric a call at DiMarzio and he'll have a better idea based on the guitar your putting them in. (718 981 9286)

LarryDiMarzio got em. the 7s with the covers. fit perfectly.
Erick Mazur where did you buy yours from? I can't seem to find them anywhere other than ebay...
Can't choose over this or the Titans...
These sound a little bit darker then the Titans so if that's the sound you want then these. Hard to say without A/Bing them in person
i have the titans in my six string and am beyond impressed with them
Nick Laffy Titans. They r more diverse
Fuck it guys, I'll buy both. Maybe A/B them in my 2127z.

I'm sensing an EVH 5150 and an SM57 right in there, best setup imo.
Considering you can see the 5153 in the back with a silver mic in front, I'd say your senses betray you.
I was paying more attention to the guitar though i just noticed the setup awhile ago, plus the SM57 doesnt only come in silver, i've seen black ones.
It only comes in black, which means it couldn't have been the mic used.
Looking at the out of focus background it looks more like a Royer 121 on that 2x12 with the silver cylinder head and the little wings and definitely a 5150 III
Stormer Buishifter I read the comments. Larry DiMarzio said earlier that it was recorded with SM57. :)
DA BOSS
something about them
Oh by the way this is my new sig from Jackson...Awesome
Killer.
You're a badass!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Active or passive?
passive
Theres no such thing as an active Dimarzio as of yet...
Passive is dimarzios thing👍🏽
666!
