Relish the memory of that March 7, 1981 game. Up in the “beyond nose bleed seats” and have never heard the Marriott Center as loud as that night. Took two days to recover my voice afterwards - never to be forgotten.
I remember seeing Danny and Greg walking around campus frequently during this year (80-81). I was a freshman and lived south of campus and still remember when they beat Notre Dame-- you could hear impromptu celebrations at neighboring apartment complexes that seemed to stretch for miles in all directions.
77-80 were amazing years. I shot for the Daily Universe and did a lot of games of these guys... throw in Nielsen, Wilson, McMahon... quite a bracket of years for BYU in the 2 sports... I shot the picture in Frank Arnold's book of Trumbo lifting Ainge - it was after beating SDSU down there for a conf championship... Gwynn was a pretty credible BB player that year and of course went on to MLB fame...
I was at that Utah game (and EVERY game for 4 years) and it was full and jet-engine loud from the moment the teams came out for warm ups. More adrenalin in my body than blood. Then Utah scores the first 10, BYU gets back within 3 or 4, Utah gets it back up to 10, BYU gets to 3 or 4 by halftime. Then 2nd half BYU's within 1 and both teams go 6 straight possessions without scoring before BYU finally gets a go-ahead basket. CRAZY loud! Then a stop and another basket, then Fred Roberts gets a block and finds Ainge streaking downcourt for a gimme. Up 5, Pimm calls a t.o. Campus seismographs are registering 7.0......I wish they'd put it on the app. Marriott Center has never seen anything like it.
I graduated in April of 1981. I have great memories of this team. I’m glad they’re being recognized.

Love these two! Thanks to Danny for all he's done for BYU. What a great segment.
The eighties was definitely golden age of BYU sports. Kite & Ainge are great ambassadors of BYU!
Cant get enough of these legends interviews. Adds so much depth to what makes the program today, how they got to where they are today.
One of the more enjoyable spots in a long time. The guys were great!

Would have loved to have seen Greg Kite get into coaching.

Back when guys played 4 years of college ball before going to the NBA.
