I have never learned Banjo however my grandfather had a banjo which he never learned to play but he gave to me on my 10th birthday in hopes that I might like to learn it. and so I have kept it as it has a connection to him. I'm much more of a Pianist than any sort of stinged instrument person myself.
Banjo and trains go together like peas and carrots! I pick on some 5-string myself. Nothing like "Wreck of the old 97" to get them train vibes going. "Fireball Mail" is hot too. Nicely done!
There have notably been several musician/train enthusiasts through the years (Neil Young, Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart, etc.). I have a nice collection of saxophones myself. I'll always have music and trains. There's just something about the two that once they're in you it's an infection you can't shake. Thanks for sharing.
I was already a fan of this channel but these last few episodes made me an even bigger fan of not just ericstrains but Eric himself because he appreciates things from the perspective of the people that watch his channel
Cool video! I'm a musician as well. Mainly a bass player. I'm actually working towards moving to Atlanta from where I live in Memphis to further my career as a musician since there is much more opportunity there. For me I found my love of music and trains at the same time at 4 years old when my mom would record train specials, and music concerts from PBS from the tv to VHS to watch.
Great behind the scenes videos. I too played in a working band and now I've discovered a whole new love......O SCALE TRAINS!!!!! Time to sell my 87' silver jubilee and les paul.
I like Dr.John and Leon Redbone classic New Orleans jazz and jazz in general Yea I am officially odd. lol I had a friend and fellow truck driver for the same company that was a professional Mandolin player that would sometimes play down in Branson Mo. I used to play base but laid it down when I went into the Navy.
Hey Eric! I enjoyed the video and awesome collection of instruments! I've played the 5-string banjo for close to 15 years now. It's a fun instrument for sure...I have an older video of me playing on my channel but I really need to record some new ones. I've always thought that banjos and steam engines were the absolute best combo, they just go together like Jack and Coke!
Awesome ! Love that fender sound ! And the banjo sounds great too . I play a 5 string as well mostly 3 finger style or (scruggs style) and it isnt easy to pick up like you said
Definitely more videos of you and that beautiful sounding electric guitar, please. I really resonate with your style of music. Love Black Crows and the up and coming Greta Vanfleet. Really nice video, Eric.
I should have known you were a musician. Like myself, a gigging musician, I love trains and comic books as well. Keep us updated on the move . Love your videos.
You hit the nail on the head I too have (had) a collection of guitars, 8 Estabans, loved the different themes a couple of fenders, couple Gibsons, a fender Stratocaster, Peavy strat w/maple neck, I have two Les Paul's one is a gold face Les Paul, it took a lot of lawn mowing and a lot of paper route money to buy that for the grand price of $125 back in 1972 and it was used at that, a few Fender tube amps a "showman," "vibrolux," " Deluxe reverb"driver with cabnet" no tv repair stores to run and get tubes now. You talked about having a good cheap "inexpensive" guitar that sounds good I only wish I would have kept my 1970 Sears silvertone with the rainbow effect paint that I got for Christmas that year. To a young wanta be promising rock star it didn't matter that the strings were 1/4 inch or more off the neck, I thought that was the coolest guitar in the world wish I still had it. Rock on!, then relax with trains! Great video, can't wait for the camping one.
You are quite an accomplished musician Eric and thanks for showing us your collection. Even though I have been a keyboardist for many years playing both pipe organ and piano as a hobby I have always enjoyed hearing guitar (and banjo!) being played and have a few favorites I enjoy listening to. Thanks again and looking forward to your next video.
I’m in a band with friends as a pianist, the best performance I’ve had was when we were playing Africa by Toto, I’m biased because I played the solo during the bridge :P . Either that or when we all had nearly too much fun playing Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai lol
Hey Eric, do you plan on getting a new Legacy 2-10-4 that Lionel is releasing soon? It's done in 6 new paint schemes: Kansas City Southern, Southern Railway, Duluth Missabe & Iron Range, Burlington Route, Bessemer & Lake Erie, and Rio Grande.
Cool to see another person who is passionate about music and trains like I am. I also play guitar, bass, mandolin, and banjo, so there are some similarities there. Your playing is really nice, too. Who are your musical inspirations, out of curiosity, band-wise? Personally, my inspirations are a mix between Mumford & Sons, The Clash, and Queens of the Stone Age, along with a few more punk bands. Take care, my man, and have a fantastic day. ~Mike
Sweet I learned on a guitar called a Gretch Corvette from the 60s that was my Dads. My First guitar I got at 15 was a 1994 40th anniversary American Strat. I dont play it much, its more a keep sake. Keep on pickin brother!!
Hi Eric, I Just got my first Guitar (Acoustic) I Just Learned E Minor and hope to get better over time. Hopefuly moving to a nice yamaha for Acoustic and a nice fender for electric.
My dad plays in a band those are some dope guitars. I have a 5x9 O gauge layout & I desperatley need some pennsylvania passenger cars. They have too go with my steam engine I have which is a mth railking k4 pacific with protosound 1. what pennsy passenger cars would you recommend for small curves like o27 or o31? if anyone else in the comments has a recommendation please let me know in the response
Never got into music but love the oldies! Hope you like the signal Brian gave you! If you do a plug or review ill give you a huge discount if you want more.

I will do yours at cost plus 50 bucks If you're willing to remove the head it will save you on shipping and worries about damage to the power unit. Hit me up if you ever see this comment. You could even bring the amp to York in the fall.....I live 20 minutes away.

Dude, Greta Van Fleet is a Direct Rip Off of Zeppelin. From the way they dress and their stage moves, to the songs and singing style. The only reason they can get away with it, is because its been 40 years and most of today's kids have no clue about the past, so they think it's something new and refreshing. Little do they know. They are not just borrowing for inspiration, but they have stolen the whole act right down to the way they stand, and hold their mic cords. Previously in a interview, they said that they knew very little of Zeppelins music! Can you even fathom that? I have no respect for them at all!

Like this comment if you agree that Eric nailed it with the banjo 11:00
You should make your own intro music to your video to make it special to your channel.
please do this Eric! Would be so neat, a nice train sounding bluesy theme would be wonderful!

I'm 64 and i have Greta Van Fleet albums playing in my car!
Awesome blog! As a guitarist myself, this episode was fun to watch. The banjo riff kinda sounded like cliffs of Dover.

Those old silvertones are classic now
Spot on about the "cheap" guitars. Another huge factor is the set up.

Real realy good with guitars
Quiet the collection u got there nice instruments
You have e o the banjo. I hsve the mandolin bass and several guitars. My best is are a Nashville telecaster and an Epiphone Sheridan II.
As a musician and a railfan, it's often hard to choose between guitar pedals and electric trains.
You should play your banjo live while running trains in the background
Hey Eric nice instrument collection so far keep up the good work. 😀
Thanks for the video Eric, it appears that you are indeed somewhat of a renaissance man. Looking forward to your next video !
Since you have trains, have you ever concered learning any railroad songs like Wabash Canion Ball?
Rock on Eric!
One thing that you really have is the absolute gift of talking
