I’m not PDI or ADI but I’m in the military and we have DLAI so we teach soldiers to drive , I spoke to ash a lot about tips and lessons and watched a lot of your channel Howard , I don’t know if you know this Howard but the military use your videos when teaching the course , one thing I learned after having a dabble in being a instructor the car is a mobile classroom and it changes constantly and you have to adapt and use what’s in front you
Wow! No I didn’t know that. Thanks for watching and the kind comments. Ashley has been amazing, never giving up, calm under pressure, never passing the buck. He just learns and keeps going. Others can learn a lot from Ashley, the Army do train their people very well.
So the main aim is for us to demonstrate we're not letting faults slip and we're getting pupils to self analyse risk and come up with a remedy and gain level of help basing it on knowledge. I needed to see this 2 years ago 😄 🤣 thanks so much Howard 🙏
Great video Howard, interesting to hear another ADI ‘s experience. I always try and pass responsibility on the learning topic to check understanding and independence.. SE’s love this aspect.. 👍🏼
When he says he asked the pupil if he would like to try hill starts and meeting, the pupil agrees which allows him to adapt the lesson. How would you deal with it if the pupil doesn't agree to adapt and wants to carry on with the original plan?
I'm now three years in and still haven't had a SC. A while back a DTC manager and ADI Enforcement Officer came to a local association meeting to talk about the changes. They told us that we'd still be getting the first standards check 6-12 months after a part 3 but so far they're leaving me alone.
hi, I'm a PDI with my part 3 coming very soon and I found this video very helpful. Out of interest when things don't go to plan and the see it, say it, sort it needs to come into play, is it best to do the lap or route again but ask the pupil what level of support they may want to help them achieve their new goal, or just ask them would they like to go around and try it again?
As confident an ADI I am 20 years in I still hate the standards checks it’s not really true to life therefore not how we teach day to day! And to say they go off your pass rate that’s just ridiculous Once you send that pupil out on test and are test ready the mistakes they make cannot be the instructors fault it’s usually the nerves of the pupil
If you spoke to the examiners they would honestly say to you deliver a normal lesson. Be yourself and address the pupils needs as and when they need your help. It is true that the DVSA look at pass rates amongst other factors to access your fitness to teach, but these are not used in isolation to remove an instructor, for that they need to see you doing what you do best.
Just goes to show that you need to adapt to the needs of the pupil and not expect the pupil to fit in with your plan. People make errors, they are not not bad, just signs they need some help

Seems like an inexperienced learner those are bad errors
