most of the imperium works in a lord-vassal configuration already, so being an imperial vassal state is pretty much the same as just being part of the imperium.
a good example of this is Ultramar

  • @Gunthersby

    Okay here's one for you:
Out of the Imperial arsenal, no tool is more powerful than bureaucracy. There is none more mundane, and certainly none more flawed; when the Embers of Gast Chapter was penned down as being in, rather than their actual backline position, the very frontline alongside a regiment of Vostroyan Firstborn, which was overrun by Tyranids and subsequently bombed to dust, the Marines were declared annihilated to the last, and their homeworld being sticklers for rules beyond most were refused to be acknowledged as still surviving.
So they resettled on the dark side of their homeworld's moon, operating without orders, guarding it without further contact.
Their fortress-monastery would in time be regarded a monument, as the people believed the spirits of their Angels still protected them... Rumours of human figures clad in armour stalking its halls would perpetuate the myth, which caused tributes of supplies to be laid before the monument, and each would be spirited away by what was now called the Ghosts of Gast.

My own Homebrew Renegade Chapter ended up doing a little bit of every ending you mentioned. They started out World Eaters with the Butchers Nails then turned during the Horus Heresy with the rest of the legion. After the Heresy a high ranking World Eater who still loved the Emporer took a small amount of similar minded marines and winded up a Black Shield Chapter for a time serving the Imperium once agian. However they still had the Butchers Nails and the Chapter Master, the same Marine who originally turned away from the World Eaters, fell to the Butchers Nails while the second in command tried to cover it up. Eventually the Marines turned Renegade after one too many incidents as a result of the Butchers Nails and the Chapter Master began falling to Khorn all over agian. The Chapter Master had become a lunatic constantly being hid by the second in command who at this point was calling the shots trying to satisfy the legion full of Butchers Nails marines while keeping the Chapter Masters condition a secret ending with them walking the line between Renegade and Choas worshipper while their numbers dropped like flies until eventual extinction after drifting through the warp right in the way of some Iron Warriors. Tried not to get descripive to prevent myself from being here typing for awhile

My homebrew chapter fits in the eventual extinction category. However, the path leading up to the extinction I’ll need some outside help in deciding if it makes sense within the narrative.
The Uniters were originally Iron Warriors that remained loyal during the Horus Heresy. Guilliman allowed them to create their own chapter to serve the Imperium.
During the Age of Apostasy, the Uniters were declared excommunicate Traitoris, and their homeworld was under siege by Vandire’s forces. The Uniters enacted an emergency escape plan that allowed them to escape on the largest piece of their planet to be rebuilt into a space station.
The chapter and its human populace survived several thousand years in the galaxy by making friends with chapters that agreed with their principles, or straight up helping a chapter in a warzone, so that the Uniters can one day call upon favors to aid them.
The chapter actively defends itself against Imperial forces hunting them down and Iron Warriors seeking to punish them for rebelling against Perturabo.
The Uniters would catch a fresh break in the form of the Tau Empire. Trade agreements with the Tau allowed the Uniters to better maintain their space station and its people. And the upgraded weapons the Tau offered allowed the Uniters to defend themselves from Imperial forces better. And on active battlefields, the Uniters would invite Imperial Guard to join their ranks as auxiliary troops much like the Ultramar Auxilia does for the Ultramarines.
However, despite their recent successes, a looming sense of impending doom falls upon the chapter.
The chapter will fall in the wake of the 13th Black Crusade, and the only thing of the Uniters Guilliman will find with his own two eyes is a single marine, wailing in anguish as he survived to see his entire brotherhood die before they got the chance to reunite with the primarch that gave them a chance.

To be fair, you could make a chapter whose reason for excommunication IS that they made a world into "Traitors".
An Example for my future homebrew chapter (the basic premise):
They basically converted their entire Homeworld to the beliefs of the Emperor being no god, but a hero. And that Invention is not heresy. Basically the pre-ecclesiarchy beliefs.

The Tau are still a very tiny empire of a couple hundred worlds at the upper end of estimates that are pretty limited to the Damocles Gulf, compared to the Imperium's millions and millions of worlds. This heavily restricts the number of Chapters that would even know they exist, much less have encountered them, much less have spent the time to become aware of what the Tau believe in, much less how many would additionally go renegade.
However, if you take one stage back of a general "Join up with an External Empire" that includes the Tau but also other Xenos as well as minor Human Empires that exist on the fringes like the Veiled Region, the Halo Zone, the Ghoul Stars, and the like, that is a direction that seems to have much, much higher odds of happening. The borders of the Imperium are extremely vast, after all.

My renegade chapter is called the Pioneers.
They are Ultramarines successors (Ultima Founding) who, prior to their fall, used to be considered shining examples of loyalty to the Imperium, and were great heroes. They cared for civilians in battle, and always helped rebuild afterwards.
One day, however, the Thousand Sons attacked their homeworld and their fortress monastery, known as Nova Point (they had numerous relics previously taken as trophies from them). This battle was against the entire chapter, and to ensure that they wouldn’t be reinforced the 1k Sons created a warp storm around the system.
Unfortunately, the high warp activity ended up attracting Hive Fleet Kronos. Surrounded and forced to choose between life or death, the two armies begrudgingly joined forces to fight back and drove the Hive Fleet away.
The Imperium, upon discovering this, declared them Excommunicata Traitoris and the Inquisition sent the Grey Knights to wipe out their remaining warriors (chaos corruption and all that). This event would be known as the Night of Extinction in their chapter history, but 89 marines and one Venerable Dreadnought managed to escape on a small frigate called the “Silver Bullet”. Their chapter master was dead, and they weren’t even a specific company, rather the remnants of forces from across the entire Chapter.
Now, they roam the galaxy as a traveling band of mercenaries. They resent the government of the Imperium, but not the people within it, and so still fight to aid beleaguered worlds.
Having not been resupplied in decades, their armor is a dirty off-white color, and their gear is scrapped together from whatever they have. Their acting “chapter master” is actually the captain of the Fifth Company, who dons half-functioning Gravis armor armed with whatever gear they had spared. He has a Terminator Power Sword and an Inceptor’s bolt pistol (proxied in games as a Gravis Cap. w/sword+rifle). Their armor is also greatly uneven, with parts taken from every Mark (aside from Thunder, but nobody has access to that).

I've been working on a Homebrew Renegade Chapter for a little while called the Phoenix Praetors (Formerly the Red Praetors). They were an Ultima Founding chapter who specialized in Shock Assaults, Reinforcing Hopelessly outmatched Imperial forces, and delivering decapitation strikes on Enemy forces.
Their fall happened on the (homebrew) planet of Malticore. They were dispatched by the Inquisition Ordo Xenos to reinforce badly outnumbered and undersupplied Guardsmen and Sisters of Battle, who were loosing ground to Necrons. The Red Praetors personally saved the lives of many sisters, guardsmen, and civilians and then destroyed the Necron Overlord and primary Tomb with an Orbital Assault. However, they made a fatal mistake.
The Necrons had been experimenting with enhanced Mind Shackle Scarabs, and were trying to create a weapon to mind control and enslave mass numbers of humans. (Think Pariah Nexus zombies but on a planetary scale). As such, many sisters and Guardsmen were taken prisoner and experimented on, turning them into mind controlled slaves to the Necrons. The Red Preators encountered these soldiers during their attack of the Tomb structure and couldn't bring themselves to kill them. They instead believed strongly that once the Necrons were defeated, these people could be saved and their free will restored. . . And they were right. The death of the Overlord and destruction of his tomb structure broke the mind control over the humans and restored their free will. In total, the Red Preators saved millions of captured Guardsmen and Sisters all over the planet, who needless to say were indebted to and thankful for the Space Marines. It was, by any logical standard, the greatest victory for the Red Preators yet.
However the Inquisitor who dispatched them didn't see it that way. She considered all the non-space marines on the planet already too tainted by Necron technology to be trusted, and ordered the Red Preators to genocide all of the Imperial forces and citizens of the Planet, even those never infected by the Necrons. But again, the Red Preators refused to kill the Imperial forces. The Inquistor and the Chapter Master had a heated exchange, in which the Inquistor declared that she spoke with the authority of the Emperor. The Chapter Master responded by saying, "If a fool, who claimes to speak for the God Emperor, should condemn an entire world to death, showing no mercy to the wounded, the weak, the children, the women, and the prisoner, based on nothing more than a whim, and carry the force of law; then I can no longer serve this Imperium." And immediately gunned the Inquisitor and her Retinue down.
The Inquisition would declare the Red Praetors, Excommunicate Tairoris, and sent the Minortars to destroy them, their fleet, and the Imperial forces on the planet of Malticore. However, the Sisters and Guardsmen would aid the Red Preators, seeing the Inquisition as rogue and Minotaurs as out of line and acting against the will of the Emperor. A gruesome battle ensued, in which the Minotaurs sustained heavy casualties due to the dug in defendors of Malticore. The Inquisition finally decided to declare Malticore Exterminatus, and Virus bomb the surface. However, the Red Preators would successfully evacuate the Sisters of Battle in their entirety, many Guard units, and as many civilians as their ships could carry. The fleet then escaped in the chaos and made a blind jump through the Immaterium, arriving together many lightyears away, but a decade later than when they jumped.
Now the renamed Pheonix Preators cannot simply tolerate extinction, as they have dedicated themselves to protecting the sisters they rescued, as well as the survivors of Malticore. In all the adventures they've had so far, they've narrowly avoided the Inquisition a few times, allied themselves with the Farsight Enclave, defeated a Chaos Lord plotting to ambush the Carcarodons (earning an under-the-table alliance with Tyberous and his boys), lost a catastrophic number of their marines in an encounter with the Black Templars (starting a fued with the Black Templars), finding an uncharted planet and colonizing it for the survivors, and a scrap with the Drukari.

    • @catholicpatriotusa1507
      @catholicpatriotusa1507 6 місяців тому +3

@@kingofrexes666gamingandmor5 Sure. It's a fairly new homebrew so I haven't fleshed it out much yet. The color scheme used to be Red with silver trim and White / Gold decorative panels (imitating a Roman Legion). However, with their change of name and exile from the Imperium, they've changed their color scheme slightly to include orange flames. (These denote the fall of Malticore, but also the fire of rebirth and a new mission for the chapter)
As far as changes go, they started out as fiercely loyal to the Imperium, even willing to take orders from the Inquisition. They now evaluate each group on a case by case basis. They've allied with Commander Farsight and Tyberous, but will basically take any opportunity now to get payback on the Black Templars and Inquisition. They've also gone from broadly protecting Imperial Citizens, to really only caring for the citizens and descendants of Malticore. (Adding just a bit of grimdark to an otherwise mary-sue chapter.) They've raided words under siege by Tyranids for supplies, since the Imperial forces there can't really spare the firepower to stop them, leading to mass civilian casualties.
Additionally, the Chapter has had at least one squad fall to Khorn, during combat with the Black Templars. And the Chapter Master himself has been tempted by Chaos, though managed to resist it with guidance from Commander Farsight. Interestingly, one way they've gone about preventing more of their Marines from falling to Khorn is by allowing their Battle Brothers to marry and build families on the secluded world they've recent colonized. This has so far proven effective, though less than half of their members have actually taken advantage of this freedom.

Honestly I thought on making a Loyalist Chapter who are more on the nobler side, being very brotherly and honorable. Perhaps named the Unchained Sons. They're very good at melee, often practicing against each other in fighting arena's and trying to improve each other's skill. However they were made with Traitor Gene stock and some are suspicious of that fact, leading to them not being fully trusted despite their stalwart image. The conceit of this Chapter is essentially building on the lost potential for goodness that the World Eaters had before getting the butcher's nails and falling to Chaos.
Perhaps they could have a period of being renegades? I imagine them temporarily having turned renegade while aiding another chapter that'd also gone renegade but were going full chaos Kool aid and so the Unchained Sons decided to redeem themselves by slaying that traitor chapter to the last and presenting their remains to the Imperium. Now they've been accepted but they're low in numbers and morale, requiring time to rebuild and heal after almost having fallen to the dark gods

Basically a warpstorm transports a space hulk into an unknown region of the galaxy where the ship gets shredded by a massive asteriod field. An unknown Xeno species salvages the remains and through their incredibely advanced technology do they manage to revive and forcibly evolve a regular crewmember. This member, now evolved into a psyker, kills the xenos and makes use of what they have left to prepare building an outpost for the Imperium. He tricks a whole xeno empire (different species) into thinking he's an ally and plays them for decades until he can manage to find more humans and turn them into a new Astartes chapter through the aid of the xenotech.

Perpetuity would mean beating impending doom and that simply doesn't happen: you either embrace doom (by going out with a bang) or cheat it only to realize you were the one being cheated all along (by embracing Chaos).

I remember two case of Renegade chapter :
    - The first one is of obscure origin (fanmade or really old GW work), the Emperor's Basilisk. The reason for their fall was their forsight roughly 3-4 seconds ahead of time, more powerfull if the marine is older. Their success multiplied on the battlefield and once the Inquisition found out, they got purged... incompletely. In the end, roughly 45 marines managed to flee and amazingly, they didn't fell to chaos but continue to fight for the Imperium. I would say that Forsight is a great gift to survive, but not a deus ex machina.
    - The "Phoenix Brethren". Originally knowned as the "Flame Falcon", it's also a mutation case with powers, Inquisition go nuts and they flee. But this time, 9 out of the 10 companies sacrifice their live to allowed all their scout (10th company) + their geneseed stock + apothecaries/techmarines + chief librarian with disciples to get away. Hidden in a hijacked cargoship, they reached a backwater system judged useless by the sub-sector governor and threatened by Eldars. Even in their poor state, they were a miraculous sight for the defender and they managed to save 6 worlds. The Eldars, fearing to face only the vanguard of a full chapter, fled.
At this point, they got REALLY lucky : the 6 planetary governor + military chiefs guessed that they were fleeing something and propose a refuge, which was accepted. Their existence was a secret, easily put in place thanks to the clear arrogance and carelessness of the subsector governor, the "accidental oversight" from the local administratum and the grateful populace. Better then, the system became the home of a secretive splinter faction of the Adeptus Mechanicus, giving the now renamed "Phoenix Brethren" an access to small factoriums. They lived there for a millenia.
Right now, they are on the run again due to their active defence of the system against a chaos invasion that didn't go unnoticed this time. Thankfully, the investigation were delay long enough for them to get out once again. Also, they met during the fight the honorable "Lions triumphant" chapter and made a deal : The Lions will give a good part of their fleet and the promise of defending the 6 worlds in exchange for the Fortress-Monastery of the Phoenix's Brethren. Now a proper fleet-based "renegade" chapter, they are an unexpected help to any imperial world.
    An awesome tale.

A lovely video, that layed out the things one should think about when trying a renegade chapter. I very much enjoyed. The one thing I will say is that there are a few examples of marines being able to replentish themselves and recruit new astartes without the support of the wider imperium. The carcharodons and ashen claws support one another, in a rather tenuous system, but are otherwise cut off from the imperium for the most part. Yet both are able to create new marines. I think it is entirely valid to have a chapter, with enough cunning and patience as you mentioned, have the ability to steal equiptment and supplies and retain the ability to creat astartes.
A chapter that whose gene seed has started to degrade and mutate is so desperate to continue their legacy that they steal gene seed from another chapter and begin experimenting with it. Obviously this goes terribly at the start but with enough trial and error a relatively stable hybrid gene seed is created. But the theft is discovered and they are forced submit or flee. Choosing to flee, they eke out a desperate existence on the run from the inquisition, scavenging what they can find, stealing everything else they need, and perhaps dealing with other renegades or traitors when it suits them. Imperial worlds will have their vaunted angels of death turned desperate scavengers fall upon them suddenly in a hit and run attack. Buildings bombed, officials assassinated, defenders ambushed all as a feint while they are robbed. Could be a compelling story about how, regardless of their incredible abilities, astartes are still human in how they think, and desperate people do some wild things.

Long story, but they found a species of peacful xeno bugs that have managed to convince to do non tau things like have hobbies, cross breed casts and do selfish things fron time to time. If you think this is too wholesome its meant to be depressing as in this universe nothing this good can last, cut off from recources and attracting unwanted attention everytime their homes invaded their world becomes more scarred and barren, and many of my own custom characters are dead leaving few alive and the leader so depressed and traumatized she forgets what shes doing. So, watching this actually gave me an idea on how to take my homebrew chapter:
officially, the Knights of Iron are a renegade chapter, declared Excommunicate Traitoris after word reached the high lords that they worked alongside a force of Necrons to deal with a chaos/Tyranid threat (I'm not sure on which of the two, probably chaos though, cliched it may be). The Knights are an ultima founding, so they lack the long history of firstborn chapters, and thus the powerful wargear. What is known to none but the inner circle of the chapter is thus: the Knights are one of a few Ultima founding chapters given a mission by Gulliman himself: to explore the possibility of long time alliance between humanity and other xenos, and this particular dynasty of necrons was selected because of records showing they are heavily honorbound, and would come to an ally's aid, even if there is little benefit to them, and the Knights just so happened to save the dynasty's crownworld while it was still waking and seemed to be a feudal world.
Since this is still early, does anyone have advice, while I post this here?

Some snot-nosed purist inquisitor found out and began to send them on suicidal missions leading to them splitting from the imperium and being declared renegade heretics. They are actually held up on a backwater agri-world that the imperium doesn’t care about so their just chilling out there, while trying to get recruits from the locals to bolster their numbers, I am still deciding on their path but this video is very helpful

I made one a while ago called the Crimson Phantoms. Originally called the crimson paragons of the 10th founding, they were eventually deemed heretics in mid M41 when thir geneseed deviated too much to be conisedered anything but retchedly impure. Not to mention their esoteric cult that believes that their mutations and Red Thirsts were gifts from Sanguinius himself- further alienated them from their brother chapters.
Since then, they have become a nomadic mercenary group, dealing largely with xenos races such as the Fra'al, Aeldari fractions and a Necron dynasty at war with itself. While their numbers did take a beating, their deals granted them an array of phase weopons and armoramong other tech- leading them to use more stealth, guerilla warfare and terror tactics (iilmagine blood angels boarding your ship, then phasing through the walls to grab and devour you) bwfore sending the rest of the chapter rushes in.
With the fall of Cadia came unprecedented opportunity, travelling imperial nihlus and either aiding imperial worlds in exchange for great "tithes, for a totally loyal astartes chapter" or full on raiding them to recoup numbers and resources.

With their lore being that after being sent out to fight a full hive fleet of Tyranids, their ship is baddly damaged beyond repair traveling limited sub light speed without a navigator to steer them. Eventually gthe ship breaks apart over a human colonized world however it isn't apart of the Imperium. Initially the colonists are hesitant of the survivors since the world is often raided by World Eaters. The planet known as Haven has numerous STC's that have allowed the colonists to buildup their world to be the equivalent to Maccrage prior to its expansion into the 500 worlds. Leading these Lost Lamenters is a single Dreadnought and most of the other survivors are a mix first son's and Primaris their equipment is mostly scavenged from whatever they could find. Their primary form of communication is signal flares and chalk markings they aren't doing so hot even by the standards of the other 2 present factions.

I think a smarter wat for perpetuity to be the case wouldn't be just scavenging, but more like the banished from HALO, where the leader has so much charisma, inspiration and straight up convincing speech skills he convinces opposing forces to join his ranks. I think I'll do that but then one of his generals starts a rebellion and splits the chapter eventually leading to the chapter leader's sides demise and the general's side falling to chaos.

    Great video guys, thoroughly enjoyed it, but I’ve one major criticism;
Where do you get the idea that renegade chapters can’t replenish their numbers? A chapter recoups losses mainly by harvesting geneseed from its own fallen marines. Each marine can produce two copies of its geneseed a mere 10 years after initial implantation.
This is literally the primary method of ‘reproduction’ among marines, how maimed chapters recover from conflict and how neophyte chapters grow to full strength in the first place.
What threatens this process is attrition over a shorter period than the training cycle for a single ‘batch’ of marines, or geneseed corruption. Outside of that, a renegade chapter has the same capacity for bouncing back as a loyalist one, hardly ‘a dead marine is a permadeath’. Where have you gotten this idea?

    • @DisturbiaWolf13
      @DisturbiaWolf13 6 місяців тому +2

I mean, how else do you think the Ashen Claws have been doing it this past 10,000 years, or any chapter with little to no contact with the adeptus terra, for that matter? They’re certainly not receiving regular shipments of their progenitor’s geneseed… they just handle it in house. It’s why the only times we hear of chapters struggling with numbers is if they are under constant, heavy attrition or have disastrous geneseed degradation.

Had an idea for a space marine chapter based on cowboys of the spaghetti western Genre. Clint Eastwood and John Wayne type, know as: the Lone Rangers
A successor chapter, that, had committed a crime, and are on a penatus crusade.
The specialize in quick draw gunslinger style of combat, and mounted combat. Some believe they are a successor to the white scars because of their proficiency in speeders and lack of announcing the glories, but some say raven guard because they seem to appear out of now where when they are needed, and disappear without a trace when the job is done.
To go with the idea of the spaghetti western movies, the chapter has a cowboy design on top of their space their power armor. Speers on their boots, cowboy hats on their helmets. Their insignia is that of the marshalls star or a bull's skull. Their bolt guns are custom made to be a six shooter, or a classic shotgun. And the speeders have a horse figure head on it
Because of them being on a penatus crusade, only one lone ranger marine is ever seen. Giving the impression that he is the last of his chapter.

  • @DisturbiaWolf13
    @DisturbiaWolf13 6 місяців тому +6

Come to think of it, that’s not the only hard line you take here that seems somewhat arbitrary.
Acting as though a resupply is impossible due to forge-worlds being unwilling to risk the wrath of the imperium makes little sense when being invaded or destroyed by space marines itself represents one of the worst things the wrath of the imperium can bring upon such a world. If a renegade chapter conquers a forge, will that forge invariably choose death over agreeing to supply that chapter with munitions? Why? How would they even know that the chapter in question is a renegade one, given how often Imperium forces come to blows?
Even assuming the adeptus terra has perfect records of every loyal/renegade chapter, how would they efficiently disseminate this information to all corners of the galaxy? The information we have seems to imply they can’t really do this, let alone that Forge World Gamma 469-Ø of the Ucthari cluster would necessarily even care about what the distant High Lords think when there’s an actual chapter of astartes breathing down their neck…

Simply state they are a (relative) young warband, not veterans of the long war, but newly trained neophytes, therefore their "newer" mostly looted wargear

IMO it will be VERY hard to write it convincingly, but hey, it's your army and so I say go for it. Red might flay me for saying this but the closest you'll get to loyalist Night Lords would be either the Blood Angels or Carcharodons, or if you want to do a little bit of deep diving I would suggest looking at Destroyer marines for inspiration. In the end, there were traitors and loyalists on both sides of the Heresy, and a lot of them where incorporated into the other legions. If I were to make this chapter I would make it this way: A chapter or a splinter of a chapter of Night Lords didn't like how dad was skinning the people they hade sworn to protect, and so maybe thanks to a friendship with a chapter of Ultramarines, they manage to joine them in fighting against their traitor kin before getting to join said loyalist legion for their staunch loyalty. Then, after millennias of passing down their tactics in the 34th Millennium, a company of Ultramarines have now shaped their own culture and way of warfare based on these tactics from these long forgotten legends of the Heresy, and now they get the honour of getting their own successor chapter. Basically they will be Ultramarines that conduct warfare in a way similar to the Night Lords, sharing some traits of the Night Haunter that may have been muted over the years of their gene seed getting diluted by Guilliman's.
Any ways, that's my quick take, hope it helps : )

I realised I may have missunderstood your question! As totalCoolerUsername said, make them a young warband, but know that this will mean that they won't be seen as real Night Lords by other sons of Konrad and may cause it's own challenges.

In the Night Lords trilogy by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, he goes into great detail of how the Night Lords scavenge and cannibalize every piece of armor they can find. Maybe your Night Lords found a way to poison a large group of loyalist marines, so they took their armor to replace their own damaged equipment

Thanks for the video. I've been thinking about putting together a damned renegade chapter of space marines from the ghoul stars. I was thinking of a rare calling where Dead specters marines or any space that has spent too long near the ghoul stars wander out to find this chapter. The phenomenon I was thinking could be called the path of the bleeding stars. Named for the first symptom would be visions and dreams of stars bleeding or a blood like aurora among the star ways and lost marnies doing horrific acts among dead planets haunt their dreams. Basically, haunting the dead worlds and experimenting on xeno and psycana tech. Though, I don't know what to call the goal since it would not be a fall to chaos, but the fall to the eerie unknown xenos of the harrowing. I was thinking even having these visions trap guardsmen men as well. Anyways, thanks agian.

With this video, I want to create a loyalist chapter who are possesed by demons and battle them for dominance and those that come on top, are blessed with powers of the demons they conquered and use to against other factions.

I’ve never played warhammer but I’ve always thought it would be so cool to create my own night lord loyalist gene seed chapter and through the years of playing them they could turn into renegades and then maybe even turn to chaos

my marine concept is the chaos touched a group of marines from several chapters that have come together to directly combat the necron threat so they became necro hunters also using their weapon systems integrated into their armour but chaos found then and each one touched by chaos their leader touched my nurgle their banner guy touched by slaneesh and their main enforcer touched my knorn and finally their librarian touched by tzeech their basic troops are pretty much renegades serving slowly corrupting masters so they basically in body being slowly corrupted they show lil signs but in spirit they still serve to fight the necron threat my fist idea and i love it

"Villain Arc"? A Space Marine chapter that goes agaist the Imperium sounds more like a hero's journey that starts with the "are we the baddies" trope.

Renegade chapters can probably be classified as less bad than most if not every single Loyalist chapter by virtue of forgoing the Imperium's superstructure.
